Greetings,

after i got a little bit bored by playing my power Reaper i decided to play MM for a while. I crafted viper exotic gear and using sinister/viper trinkets. Now i’m wondering why the most builds are with Reaper for condi MM.

It just offers cold and nothing elese or do i get something wrong? Wouldn’t it more effective to use an other trait? The vanilla shroud offers more condi too i think. Is there something i got wrong?

It offers chill+bleed stacking, which has the best condi potential for necro. You can play core necro but your damage will be halved.

Edit: Also it offers the utility shout Rise! which synergies very well with Flesh of the Master and Necromantic Corruption. You gain a lot of toughness, they absorb damage from you and pull conditions from you really fast, depending on how many you get. And for some reason I thought they did bleed damage but I might be getting them confused with a different minion.

While Death Magic doesn’t offer as much offensive ability as Soul Reaping does for condi builds through Dhuumfire (though Death Nova can offer a significant poison burst, however it is situational), it is a big help for survivability. Condi mitigation, toughness increase and more durable minions to better distract enemies. If you are gonna go with core necro, then Curses, Blood Magic and Death Magic will make you pretty much invincible in PvE. However, Reaper’s Deathly Chill is where most of our condi damage comes from so as mazut said, you will be pretty much handicapping your offensive ability in favour of defensive power. Futhermore, if you DO take Soul Reaping for Dhuumfire, it becomes borderline useless with regular death shroud due to long cast times of the autoattack. Dhuumfire saw somewhat of a buff when the Reaper came out due to faster AA.

Chill application causing bleeding is key.
Reaper Shroud way better than Core shroud.
Rise! minions will detonate, causing a damage & condi application spike.

In addition to the bleed stacking as people mentioned, you also get Decimate Defenses, which is a free 50% crit rate.

Thx for all your answers and explanations. I’m running now with a reaper condi minionbuild. With Rise and the aoe fields of my dying minions it’s ridiculous easy to play. I mean if i take bloodmagic instead of a more dps oriented trait i feel unkillable. Just walking around enjoy the landscape an wielding my scepter.

Actually kitten sad. They should give this trait to a core necro spec and change the trait a power based tick over time, tgis way reaper would be a pure dmg spec and not a condi spec it wasnt supposed to be.
