Will We Get Our Day?
For PvE, it will take redesgined content to make the necro’s strengths actually matter.
This is my stance as well – for PvE necromancer’s problems aren’t in their skills, but the fact that the content works directly against our abilities.
you dont pvp do you…

Not just the content, but in many cases the game engine itself.
for PvE the new heal is going to be amazing (for team dps more than support). and necro right now is pretty solid in pvp
Necro roaming & sPvP
necromancers had their day. when will us engineers have our day?

You know that no necro uses dhumbfire terror anymore because of the rise of chain cc…

People keep saying this, but I can easily prove that it will not. You get more sustain and damage out of running Blood Fiend with a single life blast for the amount of damage the signet does and its casting time.
As long as we have a cheap way to kill other players that has no counter. Why would we want to have any other aspect of the game or our class keep up with others?
We will, eventually. I realize it is hard to believe, but the core group of devs that actually come up with ideas are amazing. Just look at the concept behind the new healing skill. It is the higher ups, and the ones who make final decisions that are… not so much.
The problem is that they are forced into certain things by their bosses. They have very little resources to make the changes needed to fix the Necromancer class, and I would not be surprised to learn that they are kept from posting in the forums as often as they would otherwise.

No.

Did you come to the wrong forum by mistake?
If there is one profession in which everything has a hard counter, it’s the Necro.
Usually it’s disengage, but you can add damage blocks/stability/cleanses to that list.s

ill quote this guy again when every PvE build starts running vamp signet.

And that will happen-until people do a bit of math and realize a single life blast is a better damage contribution and lets you use an actual healing skill.
Signet of Vampirism: Maximum of 5k damage, 1-1/4 second cast, 35 second recharge
Life Blast: Maximum of 8k damage (actually much more with consumeables and WvW buffs), 1 second cast, no recharge. Can be traited to hit multiple targets.
It should also be noted that as a Siphon, the damage does not increase from Vulnerability or traits (other than theoretically Bloodthirst).

It’s actually frightening (for the future of the game) to see them allocating funds so heavily towards the classes that are getting played a lot.
Call me paranoid, but that leaves the impression that they are in a fd up financial situation and wanna milk the game for what it’s worth, just barely satisfying the biggest share of players with the lowest investments possible :/

Yes… but we did “have” our day. All in all Necromancer is a high skill high reward class disguised as an easy faceroll class, i.e. people suck.

1st sorry for double post but i had to comment.
THIS!! If you look at the F2P models that are successful most are pay2win, GW2 has impressed me by making most of the purchasable content either cosmetic of some kind of minor convenience.
Pare that with the fact that Anet comes out with new free content every month (great fun, but not cheap for Anet) and the fact that one year later we still have not seen a real expansion or new classes/skills and yeah im worried that the game is not profitable. or at least not as profitable as it could be.
I give kudos to Anet for there commitment to a true F2P environment

I wouldn’t say this is true at all. Necromancers have gotten a ton of bug fixes and changes over time. The problem is not with the amount of attention we get, which in completely honesty is roughly equal (averaged over the whole game, regardless of buffs or nerfs). The problem is that we need far more work than the other classes.
ANet is here to make money, first and foremost. Why would they spend 2x the resources on one of the least played classes in the game, to get less out of it than if they spent that time on anyone else? We had the most bugs of anyone at launch. We then had more bugs introduced (it happens) as those first bugs were fixed. Things like Dhuumfire have almost been steps backward overall for the class. All those things take resources that would have gone towards things like fixing Death magic minors.
The game is hardly in a bad financial situation. I’d be very surprised if they aren’t making quite a bit of money off the game (PvE in this game is amazing for casual players, and PvE makes the money). Btw, the reason they haven’t done an expansion is because they don’t want to repeat the massive balance issues their GW1 expansion schedule brought on them. They want to fix what they have right now more, while doing the 2 week thing to keep content flowing, before they screw it all up by doubling the balance work.

If it’s a problem of manpower, I’ve sent my resume to them and really wish to help with the game.
I’m a computer engineer, just living in the wrong country I guess…

Which form of pvp? Soloque teamque hotjoin or wvw (roaming or zerk)?
In spvp while not strong (and not weak) we have atleast, until tomorrow (somethings may change for the better or the worse…), some useful build. And apart from mm builds most builds want be in the back to pressure or burst (We can also be op with good team support but thats unrealistic…)

I believe one of their biggest issues is programmers, but maybe they fixed that one.
Anyway, if you want to move to Seattle, WA to work for ANet, have fun :P they have good reports of it being a great place to work, except that bosses are accused of being a bit stifling, and lower pay than “standard” (there was a rating by employee site).

Ya what type of pvp are you talking about because my main is fine well more then fine in pvp. I win almost all my 1v1 in wvw tpvp or hotjoins. I even win most of my 1v2s. Now granted necros may not be the top of the classes or everyone’s favorite but its mine and I see a bunch of players rank top as necros. It might be harder then other classes to master but once you figure it out you cannot go wrong with a necro.
We will have our day when damage conditions are fixed for PvE.
MMO class balance is cyclical. The devs aren’t out to get us, and I bet they’re working on a way to fix the bleed cap right now. It’s going to take time, because it seems like the GW2 server architecture (which has been pretty rock solid IMHO) was designed with with an assumption about conditions that hasn’t worked out well in practice.
Remember, the problems with conditions in a group setting is one that effects all the classes (at least to some extent). It’s something that they’re going to want to fix for everyone. Once it’s fixed, necros will have their day.

Ahahaha, a little delusional, aren’t we.
I’m not even gonna bother making fun of your premises that classes that need differing amounts of maintenance should get the same attention (I’d be happy if necro even got that – which I can’t see happening atm).
It is true, though. The changes that Necro needs involve entirely changing how mechanics work or introducing new ones. Other classes, for the most part, need number tweaks.
Yes, necros NEED more work on the mechanics – and class concept if you ask me. What does it say about a company’s short/mid-term plans and/or financial/staff capabilities to completely ‘ignore’ part of the problems though. That is my point.
If we want our day we need to charge the light brigade (ok dark brigade) into sPvP and… Lose. Not intentionally lose, lose because your tools don’t work is good enough.
Lose badly often and enough that the sPvP forums are full of posts about noob necros. Lose badly that necro becomes a synonym for noob. And lose often. And keep losing. Lose until you see that he other team has a necro and you know that means you in. Then lose some more.
See, if people respond to nerfs by just not playing the class it wolnt be improved. Anet will focus on what their customers are playing.
Time for sacrifice

They aren’t ignoring them. We have gotten just as much work as any other class. The work has just been counterproductive, or hasn’t shown as much, because they need to work more on Necro to get the same results as anyone else.
What logical sense is there in investing the most work in the least played class? They have decided to give roughly equal time to every class (regardless of what that results in) that needs fixes (all of them).

What do you think:
a) it is the least played class (source?) because that’s just how it is, that’s god-given, obviously!
b) or is it the least played class because it underperforms in pve and uses cheese setups in pvp
If only this question was easy to answer, eh? Sooooo not obvious which one it is
I don’t think they will. Remember, it look like a year for just the tooltip on scepter 2 to be updated to show 3 stacks of bleed. If it takes that long for a tooltip fix, the big stuff will be like molasses.
It has always been one of the lesser played classes, at least. I haven’t seen a source in a long time, and to be totally honest I’m just too lazy to go dig up the last one I saw. If you don’t believe it… oh well.
I’m not arguing why we’re underplayed, because its impossible to, but simply that if they were going to spend time on any single class more than the rest, it’d be Warrior, which is pretty easily the most played class there is.
Same as the charr armor problem. Charr is the least played race, so the armor clipping and general aesthetic problems with that race isnt that important by Anet, but exactly these problems makes it the least played race.
And im still impressed how calm you are Bhawb. Respect. /bow

That’s what i keep saying…
PUNISH CORNER STACKING… so that full glass cannon corner stacking is not the most effective way of playing, it kills build diversity… kills the game, makes some classes useless…
