I’m close to hitting 80 and trying to plan for my first set of gear, I enjoy wvw roaming and small scale with friends.

I was reading MindX’s (props to him) design for an attrition build and liked the concept but have adapted it slightly.

playstyle goals:
To utilise the multiple methods of generating lifeforce (spectrals and locust) to stay within it as long as possible to benefit from the 50% crit rate. I’ve geared to include this 50% crit, which is why base crit chance looks low but pushing crit damage up with cavalier accessories.

I’ve kept some of the retaliation traits, not sure if this is a good choice rather than the might on LB but it can be easily switch out of combat.

Using golem as the elite for the knock down and extra DPS (does he benefit from the DS 50% buff?)

Anyway, please critique or let me know if this is already tried tested and debunked.

If you’re not going to take Close to Death and Axe Mastery I would use dagger rather than axe as a high damage weapon. Also I’d use Focus rather than Warhorn because you can use Focus #4 and make it bounce between you and a for to give you healing and give them ~12 stacks of vulnerability and quite a lot of life force.

I also think you would be better with Shrouded Removal rather than Spiteful Vigor. If you get feared (for example by a thief) they will most likely fear you for 3 seconds and it’ll be the only condition on you, you can just pop in DS and break it.

Personally I just use the braindead meta build because #yolo.

Crit damage without Precision isn’t a good idea, even with Deathly Perception. There are still times when you wont be in DS and your damage will stink. You also have only 2500 armor which wont cut it for an attrition build. With a mix of Knight’s, zerker, and cavalier, you can achieve 2k power, 2k toughness, 50% crit chance and 70% crit damage. Thats what I prefer anyway, I feel it works very well for attrition.

I also agree with the above poster about Shrouded removal, that trait is great for dealing with pesky single conditions such as thief fear, or random cripples/weakness. I almost always use it when traited into Death.

Thanks for the replies guys, I’ll experiment with both shouded removal and the current, the benefit of being at the same tier.
