Hey, guys. I am kinda rusty on my reaper, wvw wise. Since HoT release i don’t roam and trying to get the hang again, if/when i can find fights.
Anyway, this is not an excuse, but i wanted to ask how do we beat a power hammer whatever scrapper as condition reaper in wvw? It seems to counter me in every single aspect, unlike “old” engineers.
I load them with conditions, they go stealth gyro elite and i can’t dps that thing hard/fast enough to force him out of stealth. 10 seconds later he is out of stealth with 0 conditions on him and full hp … rise and repeat until i am dead. Fights usually take 2 minutes+.

So any tips from experienced players is very welcome! <3

The matchup is roughly 50/50 at least assuming “meta” spvp builds with spvp stats. Being able to wurm out of thiunderclap or slick shoes is really quite important, and I’d suggest kiting them until you can spike them with a signet or corrupt boon or something then going into shroud to decimate them.

In pvp its about an equal matchup which looks to favor scrapper in high and reaper in low tiers.

Offnode aka open world wvw its like thief or anything with unlimited disengage…

I do play pvp with focus recently, it sometimes gets a runner at 1200.

As I’ve played both classes in spvp (reaper main, scrapper engi alt), I would say for you to best way to approach is just to kite him and pump out those conditions until he starts to blow his defensive cooldowns. If he gets the sneak gyro out try to just cleave it with reaper shroud+also u can try to predict his movement. The gyro will follow him quite closely and the stealth doesnt last too long after he leaves the aoe of sneak gyro/self destroys it/you destroy it. If you use warhorn and perplex runes in wvw like the old necro used to then try to interrupt him before he goes for burst combo or if he is low interrupt before he uses his healing skill/ some other defensive skill. They don’t have too much condicleanse, varying ofc on the build and dont have much ranged tools. (I don’t know actually what kind of build scrappers use in wvw but I assume it’s pretty similar to spvp-metabuild)

I think i’ll try your approach on this. By what i see they are running -20% condi duration food and hoelbrak runes. Idk about the rest.

On the topic of predicting his location stealth.

The gyro moves directly into his direction, unless hes close range in circle fiddling like you can with your mini.
So with a bit of gypsy magic u can hit a RS4,5 and marks will also often detonate on gyro and still catch him (300 hit radius, i didnt know that for long time)

The elite shout and Rise minions will make an effect or minion at his location.

Corrupt boon is useful.
Really, this and Dragonhunter are the worst matchups for Reaper.

Tempest may be the absolute worst though, as condi it’s a straight hard counter.

The problem really is the same with Necro (I’ve mained since release) and the fact on any organized team you’re focused first and you can’t deal with it for too long.
