WvW Minion Master Viable?
WvW MMs don’t work for zergs. Unless you are planning to go around soloing supply camps/dolyaks (or close to it, group size shouldn’t be much more than 5), then I would not suggest using minions. They get cleaved down by AoE too easily.
They are quite good in those small groups though, if you can manage to avoid the zerg and just flip camps.
If I’m running around solo or with a couple of friends then I use a siphon based build. Your health won’t budge against a couple of veterans and it’s pretty effective in 1v1s if you time your boon removal and condition transfers correctly.
Unfortunately in 1vX or XvX minions drop way too fast from all the splash damage, no need for anyone to target them, they drop like flies.
Biggest issue I find with the necro is the poor disengage capabilities unless you utility-up fully for spec-walk/worm to juke your way to freedom. Having a core weapon based defensive disengage (think mesmer staff) is on my wish list.
Thanks so much for the information.
Kinda discouraging to hear that MM’s aren’t very WvW viable >_<
Wanted some sort of mini RTS aspect to my GW2 exerpience

If you really care about the necromancer class, comment on this thread about having a box to control your pets better.
Tjegra: 80 Norn Necromancer
Mefitic: OTW to 80 Asura Necromancer
I don’t know if this adds to the discussion or not but; I basically ignore minions/pets for the most part while I am in WvW because they don’t do enough damage for me to be concerned and I would rather make sure the hunter or opposing necro controlling them is dead.
The exception to this is when people are just basically running in and out of their tower or keep and we are faced with that sea of pets/minions/clones/ and eles that get downed over and over again yet fear no death. I might kill the pets from dire boredom as there is nothing else going on at the time.
The very existence of Moa Morph is, as far as I’m concerned, enough to keep me from seriously entertaining the idea of minions in WvW. And that’s assuming you could get past all the issues that currently hold them back to begin with (poor AI, dies to AoE, etc).

On my mesmer if I ever come across a Necro with a minion I switch elites to Moa just for the laughs and go straight for the necro.

I have a siphon based soldier’s build as well. It doesn’t kill anything very fast, but it’s a lot of fun in very small fights.
I’m not sure about SPvP, but its pretty awful in World vs World…Not because the Pets aren’t good, but because they randomly stop attacking.
You can watch any of my necro videos to give you an idea how they work in World vs World.

WvW Necro
1.) Equip Staff – T/D
2.) Get tons of Condi/Vit gear
3.) Trait into 2, 3, and 4
4.) Run Consume Conditions, Corrupt Boon, signet of spite, epidemic, and Plague
5.) profit….
Basically just drop marks at a distance, but save 5. Then when you get close switch to T/D Then you pick a target with alot of boons and hit them with some condi’s so they cleanse. Pull out staff, Corrupt boon, signet of spite, epidemic in that order. Then second epidemic finishes Fear right on top of that target. will split the zerg and allow you to start stacking marks again. Rinse/Repeat and collect bags.
