A guy I met up with suggested for kiting and survivability in dungeons and just as a main build to add Healing Power in my gear. I found the Apothecary exotics to have both condition and healing (condition being the original type of necro build i had intentionally wanted).

How do you feel about a necro using healing power mixed along with the damage?

our heals scale crappy with healing power, and life syphoning isnt affected by it at all so i wouldnt really bother. Id rather have some extra vit and have DS absorb all the serious damage. Much more effective imo.

Not quite true. Taste of Death, Consume Conditions, and Well of Blood all have a 1:1 ratio on the base heal with healing power. Consume Conditions has a further ratio of .1 healing power per condition and Well of Blood has a .4 ratio per pulse (total ratio of 5 healing per point of healing power for full duration)

That said, life-siphoning traits don’t scale with it and regen is rather pathetic ratio.

well right now my gear is mostly power/toughness/condition damage. I don’t really need the power since I don’t Burst damage, the toughness is nice for extra armor but doesn’t seem to help enough for survivability, and I use lots of conditions for fighting (sceptor/focus OH/staff) I know because i put 30 into my death magic I gained more toughness but i only could put 10 in Soul Reaping. I still feel I have a tough time kiting and not getting one shot faster than other people.

Perhaps I’m not as well-informed, but where do you get Power/Toughness/Condition gear?

As far as Regen being crappy… I dunno if I’d say crap, but I find it’s definitely made problematic by the fact that our Healing Attribute is in the same line as our Vitality. It means that as we increase our vitality, it feels like we’re getting less bang for our buck. Healing is often made to feel more rewarding when the base health pool is low allowing you to stay at max hp easier.

In a perfect world I would have preferred coupling Toughness with Healing power to maximize damage reduction and hp gain. Alas, such is not the world we live in.

I sometimes run a bunker support build in WvW with apoth gear (0/0/20/20/30). Between traited well of blood, constant regen from staff 2 and the traited life transfer heal I can pretend I’m a staff ele. I’m an effective punching bag, but I do very little damage.

I’m running 1k HP at the moment. The number 2 on the staff and 4 on the focus can keep up a pretty much constant regen. I also have the signets of dwayna so I get regen on my healing well that is on a shorter cool down and applies protection. It was a great support build for dungeons and I can outlast pretty much everyone ells. The damage from the dagger isn’t so bad but I’m in the process of scaling back on HP for more precision as I start playing more wvw.

You’re better off taking traits and stats that will allow you to fuel your Life Force generation and relying on DS to soak up damage until your heals and defensive abilities come off of cooldown. Healing Power is rarely worth taking, doesn’t help your actual defenses, and runs counter to increasing your DPS.

If you are looking to being more tanky, I suggest doing 3 Power Vit Cond with 3 Prec Tough Cond gear while leaving your rings ammy ears and back to being where you get the rest of your vitality and cond damage. If you are finding yourself kiting alot, try having a warhorn offhand so Locust Swarm and get some of the life back and run Spectral Armor. When things get rough pop DS find the farthest one in the group, hit number 2 then hit 4. After your DS goes down pop Plague and blind them. By the time you come out of that you should have enough DS built back up to continue running.

I think you mean Condition/Precision/Toughness, because Hileron is right there is no Power/Toughness/Condition gear… yet.
