So I was wondering which class is “better” when it comes to PvE. (solo, dungeon, and wvw) I already play a mesmer in pvp (tried necro, but I just can’t seem to do good.)

In pve I usually play either power greatsword or condition staff with a sword/pistol on my mesmer. Thank you for your insight on this subject.

I would say necro beats mesmer in pve. but they are better at different things in pvp and wvw.

wvw solo roaming id take a mesmer but a necro would be better in team fights (in my opinion)

pvp could go either way but an equally skilled necro and mesmer, you’d probably get more from the mesmer (in my opinion). though a highly skilled necro is very hard to kill.

Mesmers have very strong niche utility because of portals and Time Warp that you will never replace with someone else. If you are okay knowing that people basically just want you for your portal and Time Warp (don’t get me wrong, they are okay otherwise, but that is the reason they are brought over others consistently), then Mesmer is fine for you. Necros in PvE have more choices. You can use a power build, you can be tanky, you can use conditions, you can support, you can do a ton of different things. This also means that those things can be filled (to some degree) by another class, because there are other tanks, other power builds, other condition builds, etc.

Both are totally viable in PvE groups.

I have both, Mesmer anywhere, more efficient for less effort.

Mesmer can pretty much do everything a necro can do but better + utility.

Generally people want mesmers over necros. They have reflects, time warp, portal, vuln stacking and strong dps. And since everyone prefers speedy runs mesmer fits perfectly.

Necros have benefits as well tho, with their cc(chills, cripple, fear to an extent cuz of defiant), weakness, or vulnerability they can weaken enemies for your team making things easier, while dealing decent dps. Their builds can be very situational though, you wouldnt want to run conditions or even hybrid in coe dungeon since everything removes conditions there. And i wouldnt run a power build in dungeons where you need range( unless you want to use staff in a power build, some do i guess). If you are running conditionmancer or hybrid, its a good idea to check with your team to see if they use bleed stacking. Since i can stack 20+ bleeds alone even just one other bleed stacker on the team is bad cuz of the bleed cap.

Mesmer can just throw on beserker gear and be ready to go in any dungeon.

Both can be fun to play!
