necromancer toughness is bugged; nonexistent
I just tested this on some random mob, once with my gear then again naked.
I took almost double the damage the second time, so toughness/armor seems to be working for me.
There is something seriously wrong with my necro’s toughness
Ok what has happen to my necromancer i feel like im run a glass cannon 1000 though build I AM NOT! i have way other 2.6k toughness but no matter what i fight i am get smashed into the ground in like to hits by white mobs no less.
I used to be classed as a tanky build now i can’t survive being attacked by 2 mobs my toughness seams to not work at all "EG i don’t seem to have any, Im not the only one who has notice this other guildly have reported the same to me, they seem really squishy more squishy than they should be with toughness in the highs of 2.5k, 3k what is going on?
Has any other necromancer seen or experienced this as it make my main unplayable in PVE and dungeons as of now and dungeon are of the question i just can’t survive them anymore.
Can a GM please look into this problem as it’s not just my imagination.
What mobs are you fighting?
What level are you?
What is your HP?
You need both toughness AND vitality to see any real effect from both. You will take around the same % of damage if you’re only stacking one. Regardless in PvE, you should be focusing more on damage than anything else anyway.

Are you sure? I thought Vitality was the amount of health you had and Toughness was to reduce the amount of damage you took?
% of damage. A 10k hit on a 20k HP bar is the same as a 5k hit on a 10k HP bar, % wise. In the first example, the person stacked HP, the second toughness, yet they took the same % damage. (just an example).

Correct.
- Vitality increases Health (100 VIT = 1000HP)
- Toughness reduces the amount of direct damage you take.
Following gw2buildcraft formula the damage reduction you should be receiving can be worked out for Necromancers by;
100 * ((Toughness – 916) / Armour)
Here’s a table of the % reduction i mocked up going from 0 toughness to the highest i could achieve (+1,685 Toughness)

I don’t believe toughness is bugged. My Necro and other toughness toons are still as hard to kill as ever. It would help to know what you’re fighting against. Normal “white mobs” that you find on 80 maps that can be soloed by people in masterwork? Or are you talking about “white mobs” like upscaled level 84 World Boss events, Southsun Cove and/or dungeon mobs?
Also you don’t need vitality to get real effect from toughness or vice versa. Although I would argue that vitality needs toughness more then toughness needs vitality. At 2600 armor you take 30% less damage compared to a toon with only glass cannon armor (around 1836 armor). 2900-3100 armor puts you in the 36-40% damage reduction range. That’s not to say toughness/vitality combo isn’t awsome for survivability in heavy spike quick fights, but Necros already have a high health pool.
This is a great site to determine your build’s effective health through toughness and/or vitality. Note the calculation doesn’t take into account toughness’ ability to reduce damage intake and how it relates to heals. Over time heals are more effective the less incomming damage you take, so more damage reduction = better heals. Vitality of course just adds more health enemies have to pummel through, but is more effective when it comes to mitigating things like heavy condition damage.
To get back on topic, if you can switch between a toughness and a non-toughness set, you should see your health pool drop 30% more compared to a bunker/tank build at 2600 armor.

this is so far wrong it’s just mind boggling how you came up with it

toughness and vitality both increase effective hit points.
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
2600 toughness is pretty good for a necro, but it isn’t nearly enough to be entertaining thoughts of face tanking stuff unless you are making good use of boon duration + the various skills that necro has to stack protection and remove conditions(even then you shouldn’t be blatantly face tanking mobs of 20 enemies.)

it is incorrect…
you do not need vit to see the real effect toughness gives you
and…
you do not need toughness to see the real effect vit gives you
Conditions skip armor etc. So did you bleed out/get too hot?
I think the problem is that at most you’ll have around 2600 toughness. And some mobs hit so hard, that even with that much armor, you’ll still go down rather easily. Some of the karka have a charge attack that will instantly down you, even at 2600 toughness. Same for several bosses.
