question about necros
Necromancers are one of the easiest classes to PvE with. Absurd survivability, great aoe skills, and pretty easy to play IMO.
People have different opinions on whether necromancers are great or not. They certainly require a little bit more ‘effort’ to ‘win’ with but I’d say they are quite powerful. They do lack a easy access to stability and they don’t have vigor buffs – DS is supposed to be our ‘3rd dodge + weapon swap’.
TBH, necromancer quality of life has been increasing, less bugs than when it started.
Nah, nonsense.
Even if our bugs is still not fixed after 4 or so months doesn’t mean that our class is broken.
We have lowest burst damage with caster-class weapons, but hey – we can go melee with dagger and be pretty awesome vs one target (while a warrior next to you killing 20 of others). And everybody knows how actually good light armor for melee is.
As for survivability – we’re the best at this. We might be the only class without block/vigor, but our Death Shroud is far superior both of them. Though, you’ll need to learn use it properly.
In dungeons we’re the first class to go. No one is better than us in WvW. As for sPvP, there’s a rumor about upcoming nerf, since we’re so OP.
Just go to other classes’ forums and you’ll see how warriors/thieves whining about us killing them with one skill.
ALL HAIL NECRO! ALL HAIL MINIONS!
i do a lot of WvW as a warrior so this is just my two cents on having played against the class
it’s clear the necro has a higher skill threshold then a lot of other classes, but if you are good on your necro then you are a force to be reckoned with.
i got to fight a pretty skilled necro today as a matter of fact, him and a thief and ranger where flipping camps. i had on my side a guardian and a random ranger to defend. this necro tanked the damage from all of us at once, managed to kill our yaks, kill all of the npc’s and wreck us twice before we where able to push them away. both rangers in the fight where pretty useless (more then likely just incredibly underleveled) and the thief was high survivability low damage.
before the other server crashed though and killed all of us i got witnessed a single necro basicly do enough damage and fighting to comprise his own three man team and carry everyone else on his back as he flipped camps.
so yeah, i’ve seen necro’s hold there own against a fully exotic geared warrior and guardian. if you can meet the skill threshold then necro’s are alright in my books.
On Dungeons:
Necros don’t output a ton of damage but played well they usually die last.
Conditions are especially easy for them to get rid of.
Most Necros use Consume Conditions even without any Conditions around and many use Staff or Off-hand Dagger as well.
Necros tend to have a good position for ressing people, too.
You tend to fight at Medium range and have high survivability.
Sure, Mesmers can be tough to kill, too, but ressing requires you to be still and not use (most) skills which makes them die much easier.
Necro, on the other hand, has as much Health as a Warrior.
Necros are also great at Supporting.
Or should I say Control/Support?
Point is you make other players more effective, which makes up for your own damage dealing ability.
Well of Power is great in many situations.
Poison turns into Regen. (hi Twilight Arbor!)
Burning into Aegis (Hi Grawl fractal boss fight!)
Cripple and Chill both turn into Swiftness (Skip mobs that Cripple)
Well of Corruption is great against Moles.
Moles die SO much faster without their Protection and Regeneration!
Well of Darkness just makes people take less damage, and it’s really nice if you trait Blind to Chill.
If traited to Chill you can even use it to retreat by dropping it while running.
Don’t be afraid to swap Utilities around to suit your needs.
The out-of-combat swap is there for a reason.
The trait that allows you to place Wells is often more for convenience than necessity in PvE.
Also… Our downed mode ain’t bad.
I’m not calling it incredible, but it really is quite alright.
The first skill helps you stay alive longer while also dealing damage, the second can interrupt or buy a bit of time and the third deals nice damage.
If you play dungeons you are bound to spend some time on your back at times and staying calm and rallying yourself over and over can be quite rewarding.
