sand shroud hype
inb4 reaper shroud gets forgotten when sand shroud comes out (much like DS)
I will be hyped when we have a release date
YouTube
Unlikely that Reaper Shroud will be forgotten. Death Shroud wasn’t forgotten because reaper’s is newer, it got left in the dust because it’s trash that barely fits a power build, let alone anything else. It’s just a hp sponge with a good single target fear, that’s about it.
Reaper shroud offers up great versatility (you can build real healing, condi and power builds off it) and very badly needed features that core necro heavily lacked like great melee cleave, non-elite access to decent stability (not just 1 stack), some real combo finsihers, solid cc, and a great ice field.
Not saying sand shroud will be worse then reaper’s but I doubt it’ll be total blowout like in previous case.
I’m just hoping for Anet’s sake they make it a support spec. It worked for ranger with druid.
i dont see myself getting rid of GS on necro, screw the new spec lol.
Provided the “leak” months ago is true, Necromancer would get torch and sand shroud.
That kind of implies a burn and bleed condition damage build so sceptre / torch condi and maybe traps, banners, or something like consecration with AoE defense.
While I am interested to know what the new sand shroud will be like, I also hope they rework death shroud so that we eventually have three viable shroud options.
I would like some glyph(s) to use in and out sand shroud for more options…. not gonna happen i know.
If we are to believe the fact that Anet likes to foreshadow certain things through their own game then…either we’ll get new summons via the Torch weapon skills or through new utilities/Shroud skills.
I can’t remember which WP video he said it on but he said something along the lines of the White Mantle necromancers in the story mode had Skeleton summons.
Skeleton minions is something we don’t have and maybe the new elite spec will be Summoning focused…making it a great combination for Death Magic. It’s not very likely imo that this will be the case but…you know…you’ll never know.
:D

I think something that usually gets forgotten is the general idea is that when an Elite Spec gets a two-handed weapon, they get an all-new profession mechanic (F1-F4). But if the Elite Spec gets a one-handed weapon, they keep the old profession mechanic and get an extra addition to it.
So if the leaks are true and we are getting a torch offhand, wouldn’t that mean we keep the default shroud and get an additional profession mechanic? That might Anet incentive to rework/buff base shroud a bit more to be in par with other Elite Specs?

Holy kitten! I think you’re on track here. Wow. I did not think about that. And that honestly makes me more hyped for this “Sand Shroud” thing. Maybe it’s a different Shroud available in conjunction with the Death Shroud. An addition,as you say to the core mechanic!
Wow. Now how would that function? When I hear sand I’m thinking bleeds, blinds, protection…you know, the normal Earth attunement stuffs. Projectile denial? Invulnerable?
Oh wow.
Better not get carried away though and end up disappointed because what you so desperately hoped for never even was a thing, haha. But it’s fun speculating!

While half true, its half not.
Reaper – yes, 2 handed weapon and new profession F1 skill
Tempest – yes, 1 handed weapon and additional
Chronomancer – yes, 1 handed weapon and additional F5 skill
Daredevil – no, got a 2 handed weapon, kept steal as its main mechanic
Druid – yes, 2 handed weapon and F5
Scrapper – no, 2 handed hammer and keeps main mechanic of kits with addition of gyros
Berserker – 1 handed weapon, additional berserk skill
Herald – 1 handed weapon, F3 facet skill
Dragonhunter – 2 hander, new F1-3 skills.
While you have a general point, it doesnt fit every case.

That’s not a strict rule. Correlation does not equate to law.

@Crinn You are right, but if you were paying attention when Elite Specs for first being revealed, the devs stated that this was a soft rule they were following, hence why I mentioned it was a “general idea” that they were following
@Khailyn As I said said above, it was just a soft rule the devs were kinda sticking too as they stated themselves. But 6/9 times it’s being followed/correct, so it very well could be a new shroud, but maybe we can have fun assuming it’s not for now.
So what do you guys think F2-F4 skills on a base shroud necro could be?
Um… Reaper was intended to be a power elite spec with a condi option. So the likely hood of Scourge being power, especially considering that the rumored weapon is torch, is extremely unlikely. Far far more likely is a condi elite spec and maybe MAYBE support if it truly is inspired by Palawa Joko. Which the most iconic support skills the necromancer has had in the past, that they no longer have are Orders.
I for one am expecting the Auto in Sand Shroud to cause bleeding and possibly burning along with sand and glass related attacks. Maybe even Savannah heat. Perhaps pushing an idea of a shroud based condi build as opposed to a shroud based power build of which the necromancer currently has plenty of power shroud builds.
Necromancer has power builds with reaper shroud.
He has condi builds with reaper shroud.
He’s got a problem with death shroud.
the main problem with death shroud is you cant use Greatsword when death shroud is slotted.
(+ #2 should be aoe teleport, some cd reductions etc)
As much as I would like a skill cooldown reduction across the board with death shroud, I dont know what a sand shroud or even F1-4 skills could be. Sand shroud could have a blind, cripple, bleed, slow, knockbacks.. taking inspiration from things like dust mites.
Another elite spec idea I think would be to take more inspiration from the 7 Reapers of Grenth, having more aoe skills and auras or take after Spiritual Healing (reaper skill) and have a trait line more dedicated to healing using life force as a healing mechanic or damage shields for allies.
I dont’know where i have read it, but i rly like the idea of a sand shroud for the next elite specialisation.
I hope the next necro specialisation is support and/or power centred.
And i don’t hope the new skills are just another set of summon sth skills.. they could alter the existing while in the new specialisation if they want.
Sounds kitten wicked … like Egyptian priests in the desert kind of awesomeness. I see a theme around corrupting players, blinds and taking ‘mist’, ‘shadow’ or ‘darkness’ forms.
Weaponwise, it’s hard … I see people mentioning torch. Might be appropriate.
