the skill takes a whole second to cast, yet, at base value, hits for roughly 900 damage. granted it does cause 12 stacks of vulnerability (rapid fire causes 10 and can halve someone’s hp)
i think it should be tweaked up a little.

It does feel lackluster, does it not? I’m not sure that it needs a buff, though. 12 stacks of Vulnerability are nothing to sneeze at, especially since Decimate Defenses uses those stacks to give you +24% crit chance. Death Spiral also gives you a burst of Life Force, making it a useful defensive skill as well. It’s intended to help you set up, not to be the whole kit and caboodle on its own.
I do kinda like the idea of giving it a Whirl finisher, though. We could use more finishers. I just don’t know if we’re actually under our power budget with this one, or if this is the best place for it. If the Greatsword needs a buff, my preference would be to speed up our autoattack a smidge, maybe just reduce some of the aftercast on the third hit in the chain or increase the range a smidge. Death Spiral is useful as it is right now but the auto is so darn slow that it’s basically unusable in PvP (and not amazing in PvE, either).
Yea I don’t think it really needs more damage. Gravedigger covers that pretty nicely if you’re able to secure a hit against a target with the greatsword in general.
If I had to give the GS an improvement, I’d go for reducing the cooldown on Grasping Darkness. GS can do a lot of burst damage very quickly, but it’s pretty dependent on setting up with GD. Frankly, I think once every 30s (24 traited but let’s be honest here, Soul Eater is weak) is a bit long. Going to 25 and sharing with Nightfall or removing Soul Eater and seeing further reductions on GS cooldowns across the board would make the weapon substantially more useful.

Hmm I think the reason its damage is low is because of the sheer amount of life force you can get from it. When im fighting a mesmer or a reaper that just used rise it is a MASSIVE amount of life force gain if I hit 2-3 targets. Its pretty good in a team fight as well for prepping down cleave. (Add vuln stacks to 3 people trying to rez then enter rs and start the spin-o-death).
Either way. That is im pretty sure the reason for its low damage. But whether thats enough or not I really don’t know.
We already have a really good nuke skill. Im pretty sure the GS would have to lose damage or utility somewhere in order to justify a damage buff on this.
Lets face it. As a preparatory skill. It IS pretty bad kitten . Its just not an INCREDIBLE skill on its own. It’s meant to pave the way for another attack.
Edit: If anything id increase the cone it affects. To make it easier to pierce more than one opponent. That would make it a reliable psuedo heal skill (life force instead of health) in team fights.
My bad. The skill is fine after they made the cone wider. Now it hits every time and the LF is very good.

To be fair, it’s easy to confuse skills with similar names. And we reapers have 3 skills ending in the word “spiral.”
Just lower cast time to like 3/4 seconds. It’s not really meant for damage and it’s already got good effects with 12 vulnerability and 12% Life Force.

I’m in favor of this, gs would be more reasonable in pvp if there where only 1-2 slow skills(gravedigger and auto) instead of the whole weapon.

Grasping darkness and nightfall are almost insta tho
