What… why? I say buff up the vampiric skills so we can have a viable build with it!
Currently we are lacking in variety (read: effective at the same time) in our builds.
I want to see a viable Vampiric build.
I want to see a viable Condition/Curses build.
I want to see a viable Minion build.
I want to see a viable Reaper build. (DS and or Power)
I don’t think that’s a lot to ask, since other classes have different build options =x=
PM Carme, Soji, Taper, or Mrsowrd in game
and remove well skills. those are just lame. and life steal is lame. skeletons are more cool and fun. necromancer’s weapon skills should be summoning spirits or skeletons or shooting black magic or bones or curse magic. and deathly swarm doesn’t look like necromancer’s skill at all. it is like witch doctor in diablo 3. and remove all blood skills and life transfer.

So you want the necromancer class to be what you want it to be? You don’t like what Anet has made for you and now you want skeletons and zombies and horror magic? Your idea is to make the necromancer more like a class of another game so that this game can feel more like something you have already played?
Well sir, I must say no thank you.
While this class may be broke and have bugs all over, I certainly don’t think it needs to be changed to have any of the things listed. If Anet has done one thing right with me, it was making this class unlike necromancers in other games like diablo.

Yeah, if they’d make life siphon be affected by healing properly and up the siphon amounts, my build would work so much better. It’s getting there, but it’ll be so nice once everything’s fixed.
Also, to OP – I love that concept of necromancer as well, but it’s obvious that your request simply isn’t inline with the concept this game and this game’s lore supports. It’s a really fun class that will be a lot better with a little balancing. Maybe try something else out if you’re not happy?

Both everquest and dark age of camelot necros had lifetapping abilities. I’ll take them as a ‘source’ over a point ’n click game like diablo any day…

The Necromancer in GW2, while different, is still based on the Necromancer in GW1 – whose mechanics were built around life-steal, minions, and conditions.
Also, wells are awesome
And, much against most people in these forums, I adore the design of our minions.
Btw, I noticed that I get some life force from everything that dies around me – apparently, even if I didn’t kill it myself (and had no part in killing it). I love that Just like I loved Soulreaping in GW1 ^^

Just to note, a necromancer is anyone/anything that can bring back something that was living and then died back to any kind of life (e.g. Franken Fran is a tech seen a necromancer despite using science instead of magic) and everyone who gets their powers from unholy sources, thus all Liches, Dracoliches, Wizards that use their own blood to power spells (blood mage a hemomancer/person who can control blood, not a magic user that powers his spell with blood rites, Dragon Age derped it up for most people), Vampires (real vampire, the ones that impale people, bathe in their blood and then force the next victim to eat the fleshy remains of their last one cough Blood Countess cough) and the Grim Reaper himself (but since he counts as the element of death itself and having a eternal energy source, one could class him as a semi-devine being not just the entity of death itself). Also Necromancy has no relation to demons, that is a warlocks field of magical powers
For short Necromancer isnt just person who has a army of skeletons… if you wanna go by the army mechanic reroll into mesmer (MM/Pressure Hexes) or engie (Summoning Rit/Minion Bomber)
The only thing i agree with with the thread is that there should be a special personal story quest that lets us get a spectral/bone dragon.
Vampiric builds will be viable (good single-target and soloing, weak AoE) when they fix life siphon’s scaling problems.
Condition builds are viable if you outgear everyone else trying to use a condition build. This probably needs fixing, probably in the form of a changed condition cap and more condition variety to help with removal.
Minion builds are viable if you’re on a flat empty plane with monsters at wide intervals. This doesn’t really happen that often, so this also needs fixing. Luckily, most of the issues are with the absolutely insane AI used by the flesh golem, and could be relatively easily solved by giving necromancers a “control minions” pet bar like the rangers have.
Reaper builds flat out aren’t viable. Even the builds that try to use DS – generally some dagger or axe build – only end up using it as sort of a “here’s something to do while you wait for your main skills to come off of cooldown” deal. Even if they do fix the monumental list of problems with Death Shroud, it won’t fix the fact that a halfway-geared condition necromancer will do more than three times its damage with more utility than reaper form offers.
But the issues with DS aren’t really on topic, and in fact probably deserve an entire thread.
hey mesmer summons so many illusions.
necromancer must summon as many things as mesmer. there should be summoning skills in necromancer weapon skills instead of death shroud and stealing life. i like one good thing than various hybrid thing. i never think most people in the world like life steal+death shroud than skeleton+zombie.
if you say various hybrid thing is fun, why is mesmer not various hybrid class? mesmer should steal something and become a giant monster or flying illusion like necromancer. mesmer summons too many illusions. it is not funny at all by your logic. but it is very wrong. necromancer must summon many things like mesmer.

Forice, this post and all of your other posts beforehand were extremely stupid and biased on your own opinion. You want the necromancer to be someone who summons an undead army. Cool. But that is what YOU want. I see you saying that everyone else wants this and that you are the “brave” soul to say it. Ok, tell me all the other thousands of people who want this rather than just you and a few other people i see on the necro forums complaining about it, because apparently all of you count as “most people”.
Also, Necromancers are technically anything that relates to or draws their power from death (plagues, curses, disease, etc. Summoning undead is one of many things they do). Not wanting to bring hate to this post, but the arguments and things he are saying are just…ugh….Necro is fine as it is (mechanics wise-e.g. we have abilities that are like necromancers).
And again, no. I am sure there are those out there who like undead minions, but some of us like just the raw dark power, and shouldn’t be forced to use minions. GW2 is supposed to be about us having choices. We are supposed to be able to make any build that suits our play style. Even in GW I didn’t use minions later on, unless the Ritualists ghosts count, then it makes a grand total of 2.
I would vote for a fixed version of our class.

Lifesteal is a staple of necromancy.
There’s supposed to be multiple types of necromancers, atleast with this Necro.
There’s your plague/curse Necro.
Your Blood (vamp/healing) Necro.
Your Corporeal (physical dead minions, corpse/bone stuff) Necro
Your Ethereal (spectre/ghost/spirit) Necro
And finally there’s the Shadowy type necro (Death Shroud) though this could fit with Ethereal too.
I definately hope the class customization in this game goes further though, so each you can focus on each type or blend them and have it be noticable in your gameplay.

Yep I find it lame to run into a pack of any number of mobs drop 2 wells stand there and heal from them, drop down a 2-3-4 combo from staff and have that entire pack of mobs be dead while I suffer minimal damage for doing so.
