[tin foil hat] necro spec is ritualist
I try to think of the most boring skills, added to a greatsword with the most stock, boring, ill-thought out, and situation specific traits (that do not synergize), and utilities, and throw that into a spec for the most hobbled class with a healthpool face tank style defense. So yeah, shouts, that are boring and a basic copy of warrior shouts, albeit weaker, with a boring greatsword power weapon that puts the defenseless class with high hps into melee combat. probably right. Yay…..
Anet if you do that, you will render us a glowing useless pile of dung. Lets put the class without blocks, evades, invulns, with only hps as a defense (oh, im sorry, DS is essentially double the hitpoints… yay), and then force them further into melee…. you will have learned nothing from 3 years of this game.

with the idea of specializations being a profession with a mix of an off profession
(chronomancer being a bridge of the mesmer to necromancer, gaining wells) and the speculation that engineers would reach out to warriors(thus eliminated warriors from the possibility list), it could be speculated that necromancers could be reaching out to the revenant or the engineer as by using spirit channels for support but perhaps with their own tweest.
perhaps the “shouts” could actually be bundles, a set of chants associated with a category akin to engineer kits which immobilize you as you “commune” and you “chant” to gain benefits with CRAZY special ghosty effects with CRAZY sound effects WOOSH WOOSH, building spawning power do to some WACK CRAZY SPECIAL STUFF.
Mmmh… painful bond Necro spirit spammers…
#believeinkarl
or.. if the tempest is getting shouts in a manner of invoking storms perhaps that could mean the necromancer could receive communing bundles in the form of urns

I never liked shouts even on ranger use them sometimes but never liked them, the worst we could get are glyphs and physical skills. Watch my necro perform a majestic death dropkick inflicting 2 secs of chill!!! Meditations, deceptions, consecrations, tricks would be the best for me. The community did however create possibly fun shouts such as taking all boons from allies to yourself or killing all downed targets under 50% health instantly.
The Dhuumfire thread
I’d be happy if we’re Ritualists with shouts. I can’t really see a ritualist with a sword… but as you said.. Marjory probably has the specialization just how Rytlock has Revenant so it’s not far off. EIther way, I’d be happy with shouts, especially if they are able to support your team in some interesting way or debuff enemies. Soldier’s runes on a Necro would be pretty nice, and I can only imagine the traits we’d be able to get…
“Each time you use a shout, transfer one condition from you to a nearby foe” or something like that. With Unholy Martyr and soldier’s runes, could be quite nice. Picking up condis from allies and transferring them to enemies through shouts.
Or… “Each time you use a shout, nearby enemies are slowed” …
Have a shout that taunts all nearby enemies + slows them and… weaken? Why not?
Would be cool to get something that’s like GW1 Curses Necro where you disable your enemies.

I’ve already put the conspiracy out there that Ritualist might be our specialization. I beat you to it.
Also I’m thinking we might get Binding Rituals. That seems to be the most likely. Ritualist Spirits did quite a bit back in GW1. Far far more then the ranger spirits do now. And having them on a necromancer bar might not be that bad. But we can’t really be sure.
Conjure skills is another possibility. Perhaps rather then weapons we summon spirits or moving buffs. Which spirits could do anyway without the moving part.
I would not be surprised if necromancers got shouts, seems like the least interesting mechanic in the game and has no positioning relevance. They would add area conditions like daze or chill or add ally boons like swiftness or might…. and there you have it. Possibly a shout that switches boons from allies and puts them on enemies. Necro’s who’ve wanted more support mechanics will be thrilled for sure.
As for me, I still have my eye on the revenant. I’m tired of trading all my potential mobility on my builds so they can sustain in team fights (spvp). I’m almost pretty certain the GS will not entice me enough to continue with this class. In fact im pretty sure the GS will be underwhelming; when looking at necro track record (SoV).
The game is decent and the revenant does look interesting. Necro’s really lack any real innovative mechanics and are evidently not an important class to the devs. They have no real identity aside for that the class is supposed to be immobile and lack defenses.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for Necro’s to get Spirits if this were the case? Like Binding Rituals.
- Heal: Ritual of Restoration
Spirit could heal you and give allies regeneration - Utility: Shadowsong Ritual
Obviously this spirit would blind enemies, could also grant allies retaliation - Utility: Ritual of Disenchantment
Remove boons from enemies and conditions from allies - Utility: Soothing Ritual
Apply weakness to enemies and vigor to allies - Elite: Ritual of Wanderlust
Damages enemies, knockdown, and could give protection to allies
I prefer Orders.

Necros get spirits? One of the most disliked and least interesting types of Ranger utilities, one of whose primary traits(the ability to walk) is getting removed?
Sounds about right.
Mayble we become MK Kenshi. Or mayble we can use our shouts to change our “spirit” in our sword to attack and or defend. Or mayble shouts will work as kits from engi and that elite specialisation can hold 1 weapon instead of 2?
I rly don t want summonable spirits, everyone knows what happend with minion ai.
Just something to consider:
1. They wanted to reuse existing ability types.
2. Necromancers have enough similarities to pull off ritualist as a sub-class.
3. Out of practically no where, devs decided to rework spirits of all types…
4. They wanted them to be more impactful and immobile….
Coincidence? We’ll see, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I am sorry , but where did you read this? Could you link me the article?
@Dark FQ: They mentioned it during the ranger part of the AMA stream.
I prefer Orders.
Do remember that we are getting new skills for our f skills along side Death shroud(maybe) as well as utility skills. We could still get orders and Spirits. Best of both worlds.
Also, I don’t think Spirits would be all doom and gloom. The Ritualist spirits were Amazing in GW1! Absolutely bonkers. And even giving them a Dual nature might be super cool to. Like when you enter death shroud the change somehow.
I have the feeling the the elite specialisation will get a new way to spend life force. In GW1 we had skills where you had to spend HP to activate them:

Maybe we will get utility skills activated by consuming a certain % of our life force.
I like the idea of Orders but I just don’t see that being implemented. It just wouldnt make much sense to have a skill designated for “attack this guy” for your minions. I mean.. IDK maybe it might work. You’d be -1 minion utility for 1 order.
I could speculate how they would implement it but It would take a bit of time and I’d rather just not spend the time lol.
Basically, a simple “attack this guy” order would be very underwhelming, I’m sure to many PvE players or WvW players this would be super useful but in PvP not so much.
Not only would the orders / shouts have to actually DO something like grant an area buff, but the actual order itself should add more tactical usage.
For instance:
Shout – Assault: All surrounding allies gain swiftness. Your minions will rush towards a selected area dealing damage and crippling foes they pass.

Quick question, but did you play GW1? “Orders” on Necromancers are not commands.

Orders are shouts. Orders the way they would fit in the way I think they should would be commands.
Edit: So if you want me to implement it in the fashion my train of though had specualted:
Shout – Order of Pain: All surrounding allies gain swiftness. Your minions will rush towards a selected area dealing damage and crippling foes they pass.
I think my line of thought skips ahead
but again.. I do see the difference. When saying order you mean an organization/cult/etc, not a command.

Can see us getting spirits that have an effect when placed than and be absorbed using the follow up skill granting the next X attacks a bonus.
Sorta like a spirit venom.
I was thinking it over and all we know for sure is:
- Marjory has a greatsword that her sister’s spirit now lives in
- I have not seen Marjory use a Shout, but she’s supposedly working towards the new spec
- Ritualists had Summoning, but they also had Communing and Channeling
- There will be “a new way to use Life Force”
- Mesmers got a new Shatter type and a new Boon (Alacrity) so ANet isn’t afraid to put new stuff in
So… here’s my thought / wishful thinking: Ritualist, with a new skill type: Ritual. (Not Shouts!)
Rituals are channeled skills where you hold down the skill and you can channel it as long as you have life force (or decide to stop channeling it). That’s right… the new use for Life Force is to power your rituals! While performing a ritual, you commune with a spirit that grants some effect. This communing ritual is powered through life force. As long as you have life force, you can channel the skill. Since Rev’s now have Energy, this kind of a use (as a resource pool to power skills) isn’t that far-fetched.
And it could work…
Heal – perform a ritual to convert Life Force directly into health. (maybe at 2:1 or 3:1 so that it’s not OP?)
Utility – perform a ritual to commune with a spirit that stacks <insert boon here> onto yourself and/or allies, duration and/or boon stacks grow the longer you channel the ritual.
Utility – perform a ritual to commune with a spirit that stacks <condi> onto enemies, duration and stacks increase the longer you commune.
Spirits could do pretty much anything… mess with the minds of your foes so that they can’t see you (apply Stealth), corrupt an enemies blood (poison), instill courage into your allies (prot/might/whatever). Or they could just attack for direct damage, that scales up the longer you commune for: X + (Y^ritual duration).
Lots of ways they could balance this too… Root you while performing a ritual (would suck, but if they compensated by having low CD’s, I could live with it). Or they could drain life force at different rates depending on how powerful the effect is. Traits could be used to adjust life force drain rate while performing rituals or cooldown on rituals, etc.
They’ve shown with Chronomancer that they like dipping into GW1 lore, so why not Ritualist? Makes a ton more sense than shouts and the mechanics could totally work.
Anyway, here’s hoping. At least if it’s shouts there’s nothing forcing me to use it. And if by some fluke I’m right… joy
