well bombing necro build?
anyone have a build for this for spvp Staff/ Dagger/warhorn?
I just started playing with necro in sPvP (making my way through all the professions. Necro and mesmer are what I have left) and I’ve been running a Power/crit well build with staff and scepter/dagger.
The build I’m using I found while watching some vids from Tokyomurai:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv1WkZSi28Y&list=UULul4pHCtzXigJ8VhNKhJsw&index=2
It’s got some crazy damage and is great on points like keep and clock tower.
xD thats actually the build im running now but i always thought scepter was just for condition builds period so idk i might have to try that weapon i guess

Scepter does a nice amount of damage even without focus on condition damage. More than axe iirc. The cripple on scepter 2 is quite nice as well. However if you’re okay with melee range for life force generation, dagger is pretty neat-o — especially the immobilize.
Scepter scales horribly with power. It generally gets about 1 point of damage for every 10 power, while staff gets 2-3 points of damage for every 10 power and dagger gets 4-5 points. (Keep in mind this is an average of all abilities. Feast of Corruption scales better.) I’m not sure about axe, but it definitely scales better with power than scepter.
In other words, use staff for a ranged power weapon and dagger for melee.

Not saying scepter scales well with power, I only said it’s a better weapon than axe even in a power focused build. Dagger does scale beautifully with power and does crazy damage running a glass build. Staff is a pretty obvious choice.
I’m just saying it scales so poorly that it’s a poor choice for any power build. Dagger and staff are much better. As a power build, it would be better to just sit in staff than it would be to switch to scepter.
You want Focused Rituals and Greater Marks. Build for power, crit %, and crit damage. If you want to go with main hand dagger you will probably want to also include as much vitality and toughness you can stack without dropping below 3000 attack power. 15 in Vitality line for Siphon on Hit combined with cloud AoEs is also fairly effective.
If you really want to focus on wells you want to go full ranged and focus all your stats on damage but without a strong team I wouldn’t suggest it.
well i was watching the vid and that guy was using it perfectly in that glass cannon build so that was like wierd to see that he is using scepter O.o If anyone has like a hybrid build would be good also ill try w.e works xD but im sitting bait for thiefs and warriors lol Op kitteners x.x one warrior 1 shotted me with hundred blades literally. 26k hp gone…
Alright. This is what I’ve been having such great success with. I speak only from a sPvP standpoint. It’s a solid hybrid build, I’ve found great survivability if only from having a strong offense coupled with several control effects. You have great burst potential locking someone down in your wells, great sustained DPS with life force generation from dagger, and great support paired with the staff. If anyone else finds this as fun and effective as I do, great. If not, sorry.

I generally follow the guideline of: Golem Charge > Well of Suffering > Dark Pact > Well of Corruption > Locust Swarm > Wail of Doom > Necrotic Spam > Chilblain’s > Reaper’s Mark > DS: Doom to keep enemy locked down inside your wells for maximum well usage. Can add Terror in Curse VI if you prefer the damage from that compared to aoe Weakness + Bleeding from Enfeebling Blood. I’ve been able to drop people from 100%-0% in the duration of this skill chain regularly if they don’t react properly, and even if you missed them entirely with all of that you’re still fully sustainable with dagger damage and DS.
Blood is Power swappable for Well of Power, or Well of Darkness + Curse III Pitch Black, or even Bone Minions (when the enemy is locked down in the wells, a double BM [hehe] explosion does pretty good damage). My favorite way to use BiP is to cast it, go into Death Shroud for Doom then Dark Path to them, drop DS and spam Necrotic Slash with the extra might stacks.
I try to use Life Siphon after a Fear or before I drop line of sight.
Locust Swarm is great for keeping the enemy in your wells. Use it more offensively than defensively. It’s so-so for swiftness, 10 sec on a 30 sec cooldown but because it’s an AoE if you run past someone or even a destructible object it’ll slow you down. I prefer using it while bursting with the dagger.
6/6 Thief runes, all around great for this build. I also run 6/6 Dolyak depending on my mood.
Knight’s Amulet + Berserker’s Jewel gives a good balance which is what I was going for with this build. Also have used Rabid.
It’s over all fairly strong in most areas. When focused by several people you can drop fairly quickly even with almost 29k hp, but I’ve found 1v1 fights are rarely if ever a problem even without cooldowns up, and 1v2 fights are very doable. If you’re having trouble with stuns drop Blood is Power for a stun breaker (I prefer Spectral Walk), but usually I just pop into DS: Doom. I’ve had no problems dealing with burst classes or winning attrition fights, just make sure to save Putrid Mark for condition transfer and don’t waste it early, it’s your only method for wiping conditions minus your heal. Use D/W as your primary set, using the above listed CC chain to nuke people and generate life force. Swap to staff when you need to fear/wipe conditions/chill/regen etc.
I should add, you will have significant trouble against the typical Pistol/Dagger 11115111115 thieves unless you can lock them into the well bomb. They can just easily apply bleeds and stealth constantly to heal and remove conditions. It’s a tough, long, and exceedingly boring fight.
Like I said, this is what works for me. May not work for anyone else.

Scepter is actually better then axe for power builds I tested it over and over, dagger has major range issues. Scepter is fine for a power build you should take attack speed into account and actually test DPS before you make statements. Staff does the lowest DPS out of all necro weapons its a utility weapon, not saying dont take its a must have imo but its dead wrong to say staff scales better the low attack speed puts it wayyyyy behind.

yea this build worked on most classes but i was literally 3 shotted by a thief then he came back and spammed heartseeker on me literally untill i died. i was like wtf….. its just your armor is so low that even a heartseeker at full health was hitting freakin 4ks x.x My wells was on cooldown after going head to toe with a dang engi but jesus no class should be able to do that x.x lol

how do you live without greater marks x.x kinda without it makes staff pretty kitten useless xD

I only use the staff when I need to. Chaining everything together with dagger spam in wells does tons of damage. If they survive the initial damage and I don’t think I can finish them off with dagger, I’ll switch to staff just to chill, bleed/regen and kite them. Use 4 when I want to transfer conditions and 5 when I’m ready to switch back to dagger/warhorn. Like I said in the post, I usually will drop Staff 5, then DS: 3 to fear them away then DS: 2 and drop DS before it lands, switch to dagger and then it ports me to them. Daze/Locusts and dagger spam until wells are up, then Dagger 3 immobilize > Wells > Golem charge.
I literally only use staff for two occasions: Defensive kiting and AoE bombing points. It’s a fairly weak weapon in terms of damage, while Dagger is quite strong. The build is based around wells and chaining CC to keep people inside them. Going after Greater Marks doesn’t help me as much as ground target wells, 20% reduced cooldown on wells, and 20% increased damage under 50%.
I used Hanzo’s build last night on a lark, and I’ve never performed so well in sPvP ever. I highly recommend that build. Multiple rampages, multiple top player bonuses. Multiple cases where I kited 2-4 people across the map being an unkillable rabbit the hounds could never catch; I was shocked at the survivability of the build. My one change was to add a sigil of rage to the instead of battle (which I see someone else noticed), and to run spectral armor instead of blood is power for some more escape and LF generation options.
What’s even more fun on maps like Kyhlo is the well bombing of mid from the windows on a contested point is just crazy strong. You start by fear and chill marking the stairs up then well the point. If they try to run down the stairs then they get feared back into the wells, or they can drop off the sides and have to overcome the marks on the way back up, making it easier for the team to capture mid. Every time Kyhlo came up my score spiked dramatically.

It’s sweet, right? This build made the class fun for me all over again, it just feels so well rounded. I’m glad you found it useful.
I also use spectral armor sometimes in place of blood is power. I consider that utility totally up in the air depending on the situation. I use BiP + swap to dagger for 420 Power/420 Condition damage right before I well-lock/necrotic slash. I tend to use Well of Power often in zergy situations. When I’m playing more roamer I’ll use Spectral Armor, or if the enemy team has a lot of D/D thieves I’ll run Well of Blindness with the chill trait to eat CnD > Steal > Backstab. Spectral Walk is another favorite of mine for juking with the dagger: Use to break stun, run in straight line so they follow you, Recall behind them and dagger spam with +10% damage from your runes.
Also I run Sigil of Blood a lot. 452 fixed damage with 453 healing +1 per 10 healing power, only has a 2 sec ICD. That plus Vampiric + Bloodthirst (I know it doesn’t effect Sigil of Blood) allows for some decent healing/damage.
So I’m still running primarily this build when I sPvP as necro (the vast majority of my time, but I’ve been playing thief to better understand them). I’ve actually changed it a bit and added a lot more vampirism stuff. Full vampire runes, and vampire and precision on the mainhand weapon set.
This doesn’t sacrifice much damage potential, but the result is pretty interesting. You siphon so much health during combats its almost unreal. You have to watch carefully for your health because being randomly misted can mess up timings, but if you keep an eye towards your health and a few neurons towards the cooldown it’s yet another survival tool that helps make this build have hilarious lasting power and very good sustained damage. For utilities, I tend to stick with well of suffering, spectral armor, and something situational. I don’t mind running with only one well if I need to; when good guardians or D/D elementalist tanks show up Corrupt Boon is just too useful not to take.
Probably the only thing I’m uncertain about with this build is weapon selection. I’m trying focus as the damage offhand later today, because of how good reaper’s might is.
xD thats actually the build im running now but i always thought scepter was just for condition builds period so idk i might have to try that weapon i guess
scepter is the 2nd highest DPS ratio’d weapon in the toolset. it behaves much like the dagger, except at a range.
I really like the look of Hanzo’s build but I tried playing it last night without much success… I think most likely I was not on top of my game last night and also am way too used to kiting with this build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQQQNBHhZakRLbvSTajhPRA9YXvvWRFQG1D3tuzB;TsAA2CnoqxUjoGbNuak1s+YAxEDA
Anybody care to critique this build? I often swap out the life force signet for another well like the blinding one if I’m facing a lot of melee or the boon to condition one in other cases. What I really like about it is the uptime of DS and the survivability I get from it. I like axe because it is ranged and I can kite with it giving me even more survivability. I typically like to play builds that allow me to stay alive for a while which is what I like about this build.
I want to try a dagger based build again because it seems to put out pretty good dmg… I think I just have to get used to playing in melee range and learning how to survive despite that.

The trick the dagger build, like any build really, is to know your limits. Don’t try and run after people waving a dagger wildly if they don’t have a reason to be around you. For example, if a ranger is pursuing you should pull them around a corner into close quarters, because on an open field the ranger will kite a dagger build forever.
The other trick to realize is that you’re constantly regaining health as you attack. Those little 38s and 120’s add up over time to quite a bit of health, and it happens even when you’re in alternative forms like DS or Plague. Life draining with dagger returns a lot of health, too. So you can use your DS 4 premptively just to get back some life and blunt heartseeker damage. So the goal is to try and fake people out on the immobilize dodge so you pin them, fight in your wells and get behind them. Your survivability will mostly take care of itself so long as you are hitting and use DS appropriately.
If you’re having real problems closing, you might want to try exchanging your offhand warhorn for offhand focus. The extra chill is great, and Focus 4 used against a single target stacks a lot of vulnerability (like 15 or more stacks, which is seriously dangerous). Smart people dodge roll it, but that can be to your advantage because you can pick up the immobilize as they finish the roll. You sacrifice the interrupt to do this though, which is too bad because running with 3 interrupts is really wonderful.
I’m trying to put together a video of this because everyone is stressed here over burst thieves in sPvP and this build is a great counter to most of them (at worst you force them to run and you keep the point to yourself), but Apple hates screen recording.
I think one issue I had, and granted I did not try it for very long, was that the uptime on the elite minion was pretty low so his knockdown was not available to me very often. This could very well have been a l2p issue. Therefore, the only immobilize I had left was dagger #3 but the enemy typically had a stun breaker ready for that. So some more tips on faking people out to get the immobilize off may be useful since that seems to be key to getting a well bombing build to work.
I have no problems with burst thieves on my necro as long as I have some life force ready and I see them coming. Popping into DS to absorb their burst is pretty awesome. I can see the blind well working really well too.

You might really appreciate using a focus as your offhand. I typically solve these problems by baiting out dodges with early life drains (“the necro is raising its hand dodgedodgedodge!”), warhorn toots, etc. But having the focus there offers chilled and something to do with yourself while you try and close.

another strategy is use lich form, open with knockdown right after they try to open a burst move. unleash your DPS as much as you feel is useful, drop the poison boon field, un-lich and perform a immob/daze well bomb move. it will take them down a little more reliably.
getting them to expend their toolset before you go for the well bomb increases the chance of success.

Well bombing is a gimick anyway. Focus instead on using the effects of the wells when they are needed.
i mean honestly the only 2 classes that give me trouble on necro is warriors and thiefs i cant seem to beat them unless i run full on condition damage in a well bombing build thiefs eat me alive in seconds plus eat through my DS in seconds aswell so it makes really no difference what i try to do. sometimes i can get the jump on them other times they get me just as equally and at those times i have no DS saved up because i usually get zerged on and die x.x hate that necro really barely has any ways to escape lol even on warrior and guardian i can hop out of danger
I haven’t been killed by a solo thief or warrior since like 4 patches ago.
Necro has an amazing array of tools to escape.
What Necro doesn’t have is more than a single viable PvP role. The reason you and others like you are having so much trouble is because the only role that is competitively viable for the content you are experiencing is not the role you are trying to fill.
There is no specialization tier for Necro that functions. That is the issue. Necro is determined by Jewelry and Utilities. Traits mean little to nothing. So the only viable option is a hybrid damage/support role or a hybrid bunker/support. If you specialize in anything specifcally you screw yourself.
Tried it. Sux hard, imo. Casting wells don’t build up your DS and the enemies are too few in between (unlike in WvW) that they’re not more than one or two seconds standing in your pool. I did this in a test run of 5 games. Well-o-mancers are BAD in s/t pvp, but they are great in WvW as there are clusters of enemies and too much going on to pay attention to what’s under their feet.
Well-o-mancer on s/t pvp = bad.
Well-o-mancer on wvw = FUN!
Oh, and my main build is Well-o-mancer so you’ll get the best advice from players who play it frequently (don’t trust necro users who sound full of themselves… shhh, not saying any names, but one of them replied to your thread).
0/30/20/20/0 S+D / Staff
Can be played in 3 different ways:
- Corruption Utility Based with +20% Bleed duration
- Well Based -Well Bomb- with Placed/CD/Protection traits all available
- Corruption/Well replacing the 20% Bleed duration with 33% chance to gain LF with crit

I have trouble with condition perma-stealth thieves for obvious reasons. But I am able to survive the burst classes pretty well with my DS-centric axe/warhorn build. I use DS to absorb the burst on most occassions and then use spectral armor to refill life force while bursting with axe #2 and kiting with axe #3 and warhorn #5. Burst thieves are especially squishy so if they miss their burst and do not try to escape they are usually going down pretty fast. Warrior have much more survivability for the burst they put out but are also much more vulnerable if you can counter their burst.
This is really why I like to put points into soul reaping and often opt for the signet of undeath for the life force gen. However, as previously mentioned, I have not gotten used to playing melee with the dagger yet, which apparently also generates tons of life force and may still allow you to get a lot out of DS without traiting for it or using hte signet.
