Hi, I’m having a problem that makes 1h Swords almost unusable on my ranger.
Am I the only one or is this somehow a ranger mechanic?
For over 50% of the time hitting the dodge roll key does nothing.

When using the Sword I have skill 1 set to autocast, however it’s combo is two 0.25 of a second normal animations, during which dodging is allowed, but then a 0.75 of a second uninterruptable animation + 0.05 to 0.3 of a second airtime, so possibly a full second of being unable to dodge.

Skills get delayed until after the leap + airtime has finished, then they activate.
Dodge simply gets ignored if you use it while the ‘Pounce’ skill is executing. Do you other rangers have trouble dodging while using a 1h Sword, or should I just be spamming my dodge key as fast as I can until it finally registers?

Many people complain about this problem. I happen to like it because the mechanics of it make you “stick” to your target in PvP if he is running from you. To combat getting “stuck” I get in such a groove and I hit escape right before I dodge and it breaks the animation lock.

indeed you are unable to dodge 66% of the time during your auto attack because 2/3 of your auto attack chains are lunges.

the best i can tell you is when you want to dodge use the 3 key, or the 2 key to jump back(breaking chain auto) and then dodge. it really is annoying but the only way.

another possibility is to use sword/dagger, dagger 4 skill is a quick dodge tool that breaks the auto attack chain very quickly, and is a dodge in its own right.

so basically if you want to dodge have a skill available to use to break the chain before dodging. only time i use sword now is in certain fractals and dungeons where i have an ele and guardian who can keep my hp up while i go quickness + sword chain(which is pretty nice dmg, on a 360 degree angle 2!)

otherwise sword is to hard to control to rely on dodging so i use GS (with its block and natural chain dodge). even if it is extremely low dmg.

Ah, thanks good to know its not just me having the problem, I’ve swapped my sword for an axe because axe bleed is stronger than GS bleed.

I also find useful to time my melee bursting time (using sword) and swap weapons to the short bow, then use skill 3 to dodge and quickly kite the enemy and let my pet work on the melee aspect. I also found through doing this that activating QZ in short range from your target will make the pet attack really fast which the enemy 50% of the time does not dodge away from, somehow they are more worried about you dealing the damage than your pet.

i find this, as well as dodging, finishing people is almost impossible, you just end up slashing them on the ground for ages which at best looks like you’re being a jerk or at worst makes it so you can’t finish before more enemies arrive etc. I didn’t know you could pres escape to stop the animation though, i’ll have to try that.
