Im having a hard time stomping in 1vsX situation as ranger. I use a zerker so I can’t hard stomp them. And if I know I can tank the dmg I dont necessarely have stability up. Therefore, stealth stomp is the only option.

Having played alot of other class, they can mostly safe stomp (warrior,guard,thief,mesmer, ele) or cover the downed player of aoe(engi,necro). But ranger has almost none of these. The only way is to save the stability for stomp.

Anyone facing this as an issue?

Send in the wolf to use fear and stealth stomp. If you can’t get close drop a barrage on their body and use pbs on anyone trying to rez. Using maul on a couple players trying to rez their buddy is always fun.

Protect me works and also you can trait for hide in plain sight and shared anguish.

Yeah TOO OFTEN its better to leave… Even after I down someone 1vs3-4…

If we’re speaking WvW roaming, it’s better to just leave IMO. Perhaps it’s just me but when I roam, I’m doing it for PPT, fights are a biproduct of my adventures. I enjoy them and I don’t avoid them, but I also avoid dying if I can. If I’m winning a 1vX but I cannot secure a stomp, I leave. It’s better than blowing defensive utilities to stomp someone and immediately afterwards being stomped yourself because you’ve taken damage stomping and no longer have stability/invulnerability, etc.

Otherwise I would say if you need to use Signet Of Stone, Hunter’s Shot, Signet Of The Wild, Rampage As One, use it when you need to use it instead of saving it for when you think you’ll need to use it.

Personally, I’ve almost never found it safe to stomp someone in 1vX. It’s better to either leave or to begin attacking the next foe while also keeping your eye on the downed foe.

Just keep in mind; there’s no shame in running from an outnumbered fight, especially if you were winning. It’s running from a 1v1 that makes you look like a bit of a chicken :P.

It should be fairly easy if you fight against 2. Down one, send your pet on the him. Start fighting the second without your pet. Works exceptionally well when you got control skills. No stomping, though

My big problem is 1/x stomping and quite actually stomping in general ;-(

A downed player being healed by an ally is like trying to kill a resetting npc so its rare you can dps them dead. I like to try and cc the ally off and attempt downing them aswell. If the downed player is a ranger, forget it…

Stealth Stomp is generally your best hope. Even if you cannot get into range sometimes just the act of stealthing will cause the downed enemy to interrupt their allies healing them giving you a window to down their ally or finish dps on the downed foe. Ele/Mesmer/thief are 3 classes that can interupt their healing and are easy to dps when in downed state.

if another zerker is down u can dps them down quickly from afar. stealth stomp vs necros, warriors, sometimes guardian if they blow their interrupt. Pop ur elite if u need stab.

If you can’t stealth or wolf stomp, I use entangle a lot of times in that situation. Or stay out of range of their downed skills and just tap them with the LB from time to time.

As mentioned, if anyone is foolish enough to try to rez them against a berserker ranger, that’s about the best possible scenario for you.

This is the safest way I think, exept if it’s another ranger you have downed then he will likely get rezzed by his pet before yours can finish him, aside from that way it’s probably best to either stealth stomp or try to burn the downed from range I wouldn’t use defensive CDs to stomp anyway, unless you know the one/ones left are very easy to kill.

Yea I’m for getting the pet to chew on them while you fight the others. Helps if you poison the downed guy.

Also, note what you’re stomping. A thief or ele can always deny you a stomp so blowing a defense skill on your first stomp attempt is not a good idea , while an engineer downed is pretty much dead meat without any help. I don’t know much about mesmers but it seems they’re difficult to stomp. Guardians, warriors, rangers can cc you once. Necros can also fear you if you take too long and also their downed attack hurts pretty badly while healing them, so watch out if you’re already damaged. Rangers as you know will heal very rapidly if you take too long via lick wounds so take that into consideration.

If you’re going to try stomping a warrior in the middle of a fight with no stealth, blind or stability, you need to put your pet on him to block the hammer.

I don’t usually use the raven, but it’s extremely handy for 1vX stomping.

You can block engis as well. It’s not as hard as it sounds, you can just move to whatever side your pet is on. If you take too long doing that on a warrior, he’ll usually vengeance himself which is almost as good as a stomp if the other players aren’t threatening you to the brink of death.

LB3 buys you a few seconds, if they are slow they will get stomped.

Only use your pet for certain classes though. If it’s something like a ranger or mesmer you are much better off sending your pet after an ambient or another player and stealth stomping since they need a target to use their downed skill.

It depends if you are condi or power.

If you are stomping a warrior or engi, you can use your pet to block their interrupt btw. It takes some practice but its worth it in the end.

For condi, you are going to want to drop a poison on their dead body and 5+ stacks of bleed as well. This will slow the rez process and help you focus the people rezzing/cleave the target down. Try not to stomp 1vX.

For power, you can stealth stomp if you can. If not, barrage on the dead body and interrupt the people rezzing with pbs. Most likely, you can stop a rez by rapid firing the person rezzing as well. They won’t stand still tanking the whole thing unless they are pretty beefy already. Also, don’t waste a rapid fire on the person downed if they are getting rezzed. The rez heals faster than the rapid fire most of the time so its really just delaying it by a second or two.

My personal fav when playing condi is just approaching with Serpent strike (poison) then drop a bonfire on them (torch 5) before swapping to AD for the geomancy proc and axe 2 for a total of 8 bleeds (in addition to on crit bleeds from traits and pulsing firefield)…. usually that keeps anyone from trying to res. warriors always get up using their vengance downed skill, which just gives me another chance to destroy their pride.

As for power – LB3 > swap to GS and if being attacked or suspecting incoming downed interrupt (guardian KB, engi blowout, necro fear, ranger F2) – immideately use the block to avoid being interrupted.
