2013 ranger update request
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Hopefully we will see some plans for professions listed in their “plans for 2013” list that’s suppose to be released soon. I would like to see some changes made to the ranger, mainly the pet tracking/AI.
They will tell us “we have plans to potentially increase rangers gameplay for pve/pvp”, we wait, patch notes released and all we get is another under water update. Lower your expectations when it comes to ranger and you won’t be disappointed.
My opinion is that ranger is balanced in pve, i have no problems except some bugged skills but overall it’s good. Problem for me is www/pvp and i hope we get some updates for that. The main problem is that the pet’s are way to slow so we miss out on alot of damage and the pet’s f2 skill is not responsive enough in www. And while on top of a tower i need to put on guard to be able to use my pet or if i choose not to i will loose alot of damage. I would really love to see that when we stove the pet we get increased attributes and that would fix alot of issues with the ranger.

I don’t think rangers are balanced in dungeons. The pet requires tons of micro-management just to stay alive, which derails from your damage along with the pets damage. They also aggro random stuff that you don’t really want.
I completely agree with your last statement. Until that happens I’ll be on my ele.

The micro management is what i think is fun. But if they fix it so we can get increased damage with pet stowed it would also fix the aggro random stuff in dungeons, or not take out pet while it stowed even when we take damage. But i also find the pet usefull in dungeons sometimes, be it ressing downed players while i still aggroing or the other way around. But also if the pet got decreased aoe damage it would help, or that the pet dodge when i dodge would also be very helpfull when it comes to keeping the pet alive in boss fights.
I would like the long bow to not be so range dependent and have a bit shorter cast on it’s auto. It doesn’t bother me in open world events, but in dungeons you sometimes have little room. I also think the short bow needs a little buff in damage, but this may be just because I don’t have the best one, I have 802-886 with almost 2,800 attack and am only hitting 200/240, and crits usually are in the 300’s/400-500. Just seems like it takes forever to kill something.
Over all the problems, though, pets seem to be the worst. The tracking is horrible on them; Like a dog trying to get off his leash. Micro managing your pet is only sometimes successful, because it takes forever for your pet to react, or he just run the other way then comes back towards you.
I’m sure pets are one thing they are wanting to fix, but I’m not sure about the other things. Not getting my hopes up, though.
I have just 1 request —- make pet F2 skill instant and with accurate response(no need to hit 5x times to activate it)
I for one am expecting numerous buffs to our underwater combat capabilities, as clearly underwater is the only place where Rangers thrive and ever will thrive.
I don’t know what other player that play ranger think about a condition damage build with the short bow. We need to be at the flan or back of the ennemies, with this build if we cant put our bleed our dmg are pretty useless. Im ok that requires always in movement and i do that but many time when we are focus or the boss have a bad position we cant put our stacks of bleed and just hit 350 critical damage, and with +1000 hour play with my ranger i can said im very focus in instances and cant put my bleed correctly. And play with a critical damage build isnt intersting for me, i play precision thoughness and condition damage.
so for my suggestions for 2013 :
- If Anet can meditate about short bow bleed, or give us a good reason for not permit us to inflict 1 stack of bleed in front of the ennemies, because i dont think this will be more op that other classes….
- Like all IA pet but is an other things and require more works.
- Some utility skill arent usefull. And need 30 power traits to benefit of active signet, i protest again for that. Same for perfored arrows, i just put 20 traits in power for that, i really prefer put them in beastmastery or nature magic, but perfored arrows is very usefull and put 20 in power dont give me more damage so its frustrating to wast 20 traits points just for that…
bad bad english i know^^
Thx for your reaction about my post
Yeah, my expectations are low to avoid the agony of having the devs tell me nothing is wrong and everything is peachy keen, then handing me a snorkel and telling me to go swimming with my slightly altered toys.

While pet micro is important, particularly for glassy pet builds that ought to generally be set on avoid combat so you can strike when you deem it safe for the pet, your statement is not generally true.
You can run aggressive pet mode if you trait it correctly. As one example, consider the widely known condition/toughness/healing power build popular in the current meta. Now, this is by no means the only case where you don’t have to worry about the pet so much, but I like Xsorsus’s example highlights reels because it shows beginners what a bunker/condition ranger can do.
Here, Xsorsus has full beast mastery with Natural Healing, use healing power runes and power, toughness, vitality gear, along with shaman, Passion flower, or cleric trinkets; trait full wilderness survival with empathic bond for removal, and 33% regen duration in Nature magic (basic bunker build made popular by Xsorsus’s highlights reels). This is an all around solid build and you’ll be amazed at how much better your pets perform unattended. Trait this way if you don’t like pet micro so much. Yes, we can debate the details, particularly the choice of PVT, but I use that for this example because I assume most beginners will be able to get themselves a full set of gear from the popular, easy to find a group for AC dungeon.
You will still benefit greatly for micro of your pet. For example, in COF path 1 you can tank the final Boss for a period while you micro your pet to destroy healing crystals.
In fact, using this build, I have several people who refuse to play ~level 20 fractals or dungeons without me. I’ve also discovered plenty builds that are just as good as this one, only in different ways.
I think many people will build ranger in a way that doesn’t make sense (or is based on preconceived notions from other games) and then turn around and blame ANET instead of looking inward and considering the possibility that “I messed up” and take responsibility for becoming a better and more respectable competitor.
