80 Ranger GS\LB Need Gear Help
PvE?
WvW?
PvP?
Might help if I actually tell you I want to do. I apologize for that. Will be doing WvW.
What do you wish to do in wvw?
-Roam solo?
-Small group play?
-Large group/zerg play?
Roaming or zerging?^^
Wow, was unaware of all the different ways you have to account for to build your character. I’m going to be running with engineer buddy of mine, who’s going to show me the ropes, so mostly duoing & maybe some roaming once I learn my class. I might do some zerging though and poke at people with my bow.
the proplem is..the ranger need other specs and eq for all of these parts, in pve you play full zerker, in small scale, more condi and for zerk is the best to get a good mix from knight, cavalier, bersi, valk compare to what traits you run.
so thats why they ask :p
I have played LB/GS ranger for about 9 months now and here’s what I feel is the optimal spec. (note that in some situations you may wish to swap bark skin to empathic bond to condo cleanse)
PvP (structured)
Don’t run zerker ranger in structured pvp, zerker stats are lacking the crit damage of PvE so as the gear is separate I recommend a condition build here, with toughness/healingpower/condidamage.
The WvW spec is ideal for group and solo play. You have awesome range and aoe movement denying skills for stop the enemy zerg while grouped, and while solo roaming (what is use it for mostly) you are able to beat any class 1 v 1 and in the worst case scenario will draw and run away. This spec’s mobility makes it nie uncatchable once you decide to run due to your 25% movespeed, 9sec CD lead, and stealth, knock back, aoe immobilise, and aoe chill on weapon swap.
(I put the ascended trinkets into the build because they’re not actually that hard to obtain and in some cases easier to get than exotic)
Good luck and I hope you enjoy the build as much as I have.

not even close to optimal spec but if you have fun all okay

Thanks for the build information. I will look into this and might give it a try to see how I like it.

So if this is not an optimal spec…what would one be?
okay first pve you just need full zerker..all other eq is just wasted and not need, if you die to much lern 2 play, their are so much people that can play full zerker i play it on every of my chars in pve and have no problems (ranger as main, ele, guard, war, engi, thief)
than in pve the ranger is need for 2 things as support that are spotter and frost spirit.
so a build like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBMhj6koiILrqwKIWLDELF7Z/cGHKReGlKUZs0JvkA-jwxAYfBaySopCAJvioxWULiGruGT5SEVLEg5xA-e
to play bow´s in pve i just useless before i play with a bow ranger i do the dungeon/frac with 4 people
than you should play the sword, if you got problems with the auto-hit-chain first, dont be mad you just need some practice and just try offhand dagger, one free evade
gs is a to high dmg lose so..its beeter than lb/sb but still much worser than sword.
and you never need Signet of Hunt in pve, open world okay, but not in dungeons / frac
so for wvw..
his spec is not bad, but i dont know for what he got 45% boon duration on runes
proplem is the same spec for zerg/roaming on ranger allways brings some weak aspects and the ranger is not one of the strongest zerger so you should optimize what you doing their.

this is a nice build, just stick to the com, use muddy terrain/entagel and spam MAUL like a boss if you get a bit lower go 2-3 steps behind the com, barrage for more cc and rapidfire than swap to gs again, this is a frontliner build, not useless lb spamming kitten, try to use rapidfire on many targets as possibel or downed enemys.
you should stack prezi and go in a group with 1 guard and 1 war for some condi removes and extra stability.
i tryed this a few times in guild zergs and public works rly good.
sigil on weapon compare to what you like, i like fire on lb and endurance on enemy death or endurance on weapon swap.
its not the complete right build i´m not at home, i´m sure i got more crit chance but 40% are enough.
for roaming..puhh power rangers are not so strong their only if rly good played i never met one that get me under 75% life on any of my chars.
So if this is not an optimal spec…what would one be?
The spec that lets you play to your best. It’s easy for the rest of us to throw builds at you and say this is what we run, but it may not be best for your playstyle.
For Example, the build that was posted by Name in use already.7294 has high toughness (3k) but very little HP (15k) with no real source of condition cleansing or stun breaks, therefore (while roaming) a warrior with their 2-3 stuns could essentially lock you in place with stuns/immob and go to town on you before you can even get out/disengage. Any condition build (usually built with their high toughness) could essentially just burst you with conditions and there is literally nothing you can do but run.
For now, my suggestion is to keep roaming around with your engi buddy and figure out a way to best compliment his build because if you’ll be running with him 80-90% of the time, that’s what will make your build unique and optimal for you.
With that being said, I do firmly agree that getting insight on what others use in WvW is also a good building block in figuring out your niche. for LB, this is what I am currently running:
It’s a bleed heavy build that is meant to instantly burst. Right from the get-go you can stack 25 stacks of bleed by yourself using the following pattern:
start with Axe/Horn open use: Sharpening stone: Horn #5, Horn #4 swap to LB, Quickening Zephyr, LB#2. That opening attack sequence gets people hurt fast and if the bleed is not cleared immediately, they will go down. Your opponents will basically eat 25 stacks of bleed which is roughly 2700 damage per second with 1300 condition damage at 25 stacks and you will also hit them with your DPS on Horn#4 for about 3-4k and your LB#2 will also hit for 4-5K if not evaded, interrupted, or missed. That’s a whole lot of damage from the get go.
Most people will have closed in on you and thieves most likely have gone into stealth if not dead. Use your defensive abilities to stay alive and keep pressure. Your gamely is essential to keeping yourself alive and the effectiveness of the build. For taking camps, use piercing arrows, for 1v1s use Eagle Eye for maximum range.
Good luck and have fun!

I run 30/20/20 with almost all exotic ’zerker with a little valk on the jewelry.
Have a blast with the ranger in WvW but understand that vs a few classes like a thief, I have issues. But for smaller to bigger fights, he is 100% fine.
My other main (I only wvw) is a condition engineer, so I like the power ranger since it is such a change from that. I do feel the engineer is overall “better”, but i have more fun as a ranger. So I tend to play the power build ranger more often. Might not win as many 1v1 as with my engineer, but have more fun
I appreciate all the information that has been provided. I’m new to WvW and wasn’t sure what exactly to look for, but I think I’ve at least gotten a better grasp what to look for when building. Thanks for all the info.
If you’re new you should try out PVT gear with knight trinkets and rampager/berserker weapons (something like this). If you go 30 int marksmanship and wilderness survival you will end up with decent survivability and decent damage. At 30% crit chance you will do just fine with Fury. You can use spotter instead of eagle eye, or piercing arrows if you are zerging or capping camps. You can also get speed runes instead. If you have 400 in leatherworking you can craft them for around 13 gold. That will free up a slot in utility as you won’t need Signet of the wild anymore. You can also go with piercing arrows and eagle eye, and forget signet of the beastmaster. Instead of signet of the wild you can get signet of renewal, and instead of signet of stone you can get protect me, which is a stun break as well. You can basically run a build that has -25% stun time, 3 stun breaks, 2 on demand condi cleanses and 1.5 passive, and 20 seconds of stability on your elite. That is pretty useful for staying alive.

You can get PVT gear for karma from Temple events, and running AC for Ascalonian tears. You will also have access to rampager gear there. Maybe there are easier dungeons, but AC is what I’m used to.
