A polite call to Anet Balance Team
People have tried politely. And Unpolitely. Neither works.
Carry on.
Maybe we should’ve sent them a cake like the necromancers did…. it seemed to work for them…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
It doesn’t help that we have no one to represent us during those “spvp state of the game” shows…
Will someone ever vouch for us rangers?
It’s time for ANet to step up. If it’s a problem they simply can’t resolve the pets need to be removed. It’s that simple. The game has been out for a year and the core mechanic this class is designed around has never worked properly. Why should players be penalized any longer if the problem is simply too much to fix?
Make all the pets do the same damage, reduce that damage to a miniscule fraction of what it’s capable of now, and buff all ranger coefficients and base skills to be in line with other classes.
I’d love for nothing more than the pets to work… but it has been a year. Stop wasting our time.

I think removing Pets is to drastic.
Pets where alway a main part in the rangers identity… in every game.
Why don´t just give us perma-stow?
If the pet “counts” like 30-40% of rangers HP and DPS then give us a permanent stow ability which will increase ur DPS and HP by 20%.

I still think they should just limit us to 1 pet (no swapping between 2 pet nonsense) that we summon for Xs or until it dies, are balanced around the pet just being extra damage instead of using it all the time (like how they’d balance phantasms or burst skills etc), BM could make the pet last longer, or hell even just leaving it as is…
Problem solved, and people could then play with or without the pet if they choose…

I’d rather have them admit/tell us that they are not going to fix the pet, never if that is the case, or not for the next couple of months. That seems to be the case last year.
Ppl tried politely and unpolitely, nothings happening, silence… Silence silence. Then I’d rather have them say out loud they can’t fix it or don’t know how to so all rangers stop hoping and be disappointed all the time again and again.

Pretty much… it’s effectively a unique DOT for the Ranger class. Since it has been a year with such little progress the least they could do is fit them with explosive collars.

Death Nova Ranger pets? I might actually enjoy using them then.
We just need to get on our knees and ask for mercy!
I will give you an example of how our class is looked upon by other players: I was on a fractal lvl48 when the party just told me “eerrr, sorry bro, what we really need is a GUARDIAN”. I just felt like… wow, can we contribute to ANYTHING at all in a party?
Warriors, thiefs, guardians, all them classes are amazing! why cant they also love the ranger class and check to make sure everything works properly?

But then ANet’ll have PETA on their tail like Pokemon. Not that either will listen though, if both groups’ records are looked at.
Issues with the Ranger
-This class is impossible to balance if there is no split between WvW, sPvP, and PvE due to pet survivability in very different scenarios. Bravo on the HP buff on pets in PvE. Now we need something for WvW.
-This class cannot be balanced through number crunching, theorycrafting, simply reading the forums, or “playing around a little with the ranger class”. This class requires developers to actually dedicate themselves in playing the ranger class. Why? The ranger class is never consistent and requires a lot of fine tuning. For example, there was a post long ago that compared the pet movement speeds, the pet damage output, and their actual DPS. The frequency of the pet of actually hitting its target is very inconsistent. Basically, rangers lack that certain control over what they do and it becomes a very proc-based and passive class.
Overall, the balancing of the ranger requires a lot of attention. I ask Anet devs to stop patching rangers in the near future and play the class themselves for a good 2-3months. Then come back and fix the class. I can’t speak for everyone, but I am willing to wait.
None in the Dev team has a clue about rangers at all….
so why should they care?
I really don’t have anything to say about it other than it was a terrible balance patch. Not just from a balance perspective either. Launching features that don’t work (Vigorous Training), breaking tooltips to not make sense (sword), and making improvements to skills that are broken by design/unresponsiveness (Pet F2s).
That’s ON TOP of not understanding the games classes well enough to balance them appropriately.
I waited 4 months of my time for this nonsense. I mean, life goes on outside of Guild Wars 2, of course. But 4 months for this? I’m extremely tired of trying to be respectful and understanding for the “plight” of the devs, only to be answered with incompetence on their part when there was more than enough time and opportunity to do things right.
I’m starting to think ANet is nothing more than a bunch of mediocre community college intro to programming students who a joined a STEM club to create Guild Wars 2 for extra credit. Because there’s no way I’d be paying these people to do a job like this.
Living World Team, Content Team, Design Team, Support Team, etc, all fine. Balance Team, somebody get some new blood in this department.
I probably won’t be logging into the game again until December, and that’s only if I see a “juicy” looking patch.

Still waiting for Whiteside’s correspondence to re-commence….
MAYBE if everyone in the thread —Once there IS a thread-- …lists Ranger near the top of all concerns and things that need direct Dev-on-Player communication … there might actually be chance for the real problems to get addressed instead of this useless piecemeal stuff we see every 3rd patch…. (followed by a couple listed nerfs and even MORE stealth nerfs).
Considering thieves will be doing this now:

I think guildwars2 has lost some direction, sadly.
In that thread, OP discusses how a thief can…
“Thieferis, The Snare King build Pros:
- Good Control — Stun / Immobilize at least one target on a ~3 second CD
- Immobilize — If you want to immobilize your target, you can try to aim for a +50-100% * condition duration build which will get you 1.5s-2s second immobilizes on your target.
- Good Armor-Negating damage — Perplexity runes offer us the ability to stack 25 * confusion easily. This is 3-4k damage whenever the affected target “acts” even if it is to clear the condition. Since it lasts 15 seconds, you can be sure they’ll hurt in one way or the other. (Having your enemy do nothing for 15 seconds is good control as well wink)
- “Perma” Confusion — Stunning every 3 seconds for 5 stacks of 15 second confusion means 25 stacks of confusion indefinitely.
- Surprisingly good health pool for a Thief (16-20k)
- Should have anywhere from 3-20 stacks of might
- Good access to vigor/dodging"
That looks really freaking scary! Wow, ANET. Seriously? haha. thats just so funny
(edited by Chopps.5047)
….we’re not even the kings of crippling anymore.
In Gw1 that was like our #1 role in some maps. We had TWO OR THREE elites dedicated to just that….
I love how in that thread, OP says “cons: only one stun breaker” hahahahahaha. In addition to all of that in fact he gets a stun breaker too is astonishing. How is that a so-called drawback???? rofl

Chopps, I have come to the conclusion that ANet has no direction. I have hardly played in a month because of the stale state of the Ranger and PvP in general. I really don’t want to be that person that checks up on the forums once in a while to see patch updates but ANet is forcing me to do this with their philosophy of: “If its broken, don’t fix it.”

Well, to be fair, back then conditions/hexes meant something and you had to rely on team coordination to handle them, not just face roll your keyboard if you play some certain classes.
The Ranger in team combat is a shadow of what the cripshot/Melandru’s(when it was borderline OP) Ranger brought to GvG.
I play thief and ranger. It baffles me when rangers go into paranoia that thieves who previous backstabbed them are now going to root and confuse as well to rule PvP. It just isn’t going to happen any more than rangers are going to use Sic ’em to eat every thief alive. Thieves got a downgrade this patch. Rangers got an upgrade. No need for petty class jealousy.

It’s not really petty jealousy. It’s reasonable expectations that year old bugs would be fixed and new abilities would be added. Sic Em had a low impact because everyone knew it was coming. But at the end of the day, it’s hard to blame this on “class jealousy”. ANET messed up, simple as that.
