Any chance we could get the ability to move while channeling this skill?

I might actually use an off hand axe if it was, as it is, warhorn/torch are superior.

That seems like it would be difficult because the character stays still. Maybe cripple would help, or keep it from automatically knocking back enemies. But remember that whirling defense reflects projectiles, so it is a good skill at range anyway.

The real weak skill is Path of Scars. Barely any better than a single sword hit, even for its combo finisher feature.

Doubt it, They’d be favoring rangers too much anyway.

WD in gw1 Saved my can countless times pair’d with Lightning Reflexes.

It blocked projectiles AND Physical Attacks thus it gave you breathing time in a tight spot. (hint hint anet) God bless being able to use it while moving

……gw2 however….. leaves something to be desired…….

Now its just a terrabad shadow of itself, that being said Gw1 rangers curb stomp gw2 rangers.

This would be awesome, but they would have to change a lot of character animations on the lower half of the body, so it’s unlikely that we would see this change anytime soon. ANet was able to make the GS block moveable easily largely because there was nothing specific about the way a rangers legs moved when you used the ability, so it doesn’t look akward when you pair the upper body block animation with running leg animation.

For WD, however, you would have to do a lot of changes to the skill animation itself to prevent the ability from either having the character appear to be floating (i.e. not add running leg animation) or would have the upper body contort in an abnormal way (i.e. upper body continues to spin, jump, and turn, while legs run where directed).

I mean, hopefully I’m wrong and there is an easy fix, but I don’t think that’s the case.

Adding mobility could be interesting, but I would perfer blocking melee instead. Of course, Whirling Defence lasts for a very long time for a defensive skill, reflects projectiles, deals damage and inflicts vulnerability. Compare it to something like the Warrior’s shield stance; 3 seconds block. If you want to do anything else you have to trait into it, and it still won’t last nearly as long.

If they did keep in the root of WD, they could easily put in a talent that allows it to block while reflecting, which would be another way to buff the skill.
