All the pve'ers in sPvP
As someone who usually doesn’t play ranger, I’m finding this funny from both perspectives.
New PvPers are getting ripped to shreds by LB rangers. As a result, new PvPers are also rolling longbow rangers without really knowing how. It’s hilarious seeing someone rage after being killed by one, and also seeing the LB ranger rage when I just sort of walk up and poke them until dead.
I find this funny as I’ve yet to see a longbow ranger at all in PvP

Really? I am loving my LB ranger in tPvP atm. If you position yourself correctly you are basically a mobile Anti-Glass for your team.
@Marin yeah I have seen a lot more lb rangers popping up as of late and it killlls me when they are in melee range using it.
Most of them in general tend to not even know which pets are good for them nor that Longbow isn’t a weapon for point fighting.
I was just standing there is mid the other day on Foefire when some newly born 6/0/2/6 with a drake pet (lol) was pewpewing from the ledge.
I think he didn’t catch the point of Conquest game already.
Anyway, I just scared him off with Spectral Grasp and two Life Blasts.
He returned half a minute after, still pewpewing from the same place.
People, Longbow isn’t a tpvp weapon, it isn’t tpvp roamer’s weapon. You don’t stand on the point with it. And if you insist, take some pet matching your playstyle at least.
Get your kitten together and don’t pretend that new Power Ranger is viable in tpvp.

i beg to differ. longbow is a tpvp weapon. longbow has stealth and it’s a great weapon to kill a thief. you have to understand the use of this weapon to be effective. it’s a utility weapon. longbow can be used to knockback. you can use it when you are playing on the skyhammer. you can use it to knock ele’s off to the zerg so they would stop bursting your team. this weapon can be used to stealth away from uneven fights.
pls stop promoting braindead builds like spirit ranger. a good zerker ranger can beat a spirit ranger 1v1.
people will hate you so much when you pew pew them down from 1500. it drives everyone insane. they become rabid and cuss at you. but all they have to do is counterplay by approaching or sending another roamer after you. this is balance.
two zerker LB rangers can crush any single target in seconds, or cause an immediate burn out of all defensive CD’s. people will learn they have to address this by countering, or risk losing the entire team on point. luckily we have LR, Hunter’s shot, swoop, Entangle and wolf fear to mitigate this =)

Or if you play intelligent players they will reflect the arrows to 1 shot you back, pull you, stun you, daze you, block, interrupt or just juke you so that you don’t cap the point or achieve anything. Sounds like hotjoin hunting tbh.

i dont think you know what youre talking about tbh because why would i be getting pulled, dazed, interrupted when i have an invis, immob, short cd condi cleanses, fear, evade, kb, stun, block, 1200 leap, and two stun breakers. most of this is off cooldown anyway because i dictate range on most engagements. and i dont cap points until i kill whatever is on it first.
and i only play teamq where i faced “intelligent” well known players in addition to beating premades with pugs.
I’m not trying to put you down, but I have yet to face a Longbow ranger on my own Ranger or my main Engineer I had trouble with. Sure you can use your own cleanses, invis, imob etc but that doesn’t stop the opponent from using their own. Every second you’re not capping you’re losing points also. I don’t want to make you seem bad, however that range is unnecessary in team pvp and a Sprit, shout or trapper range brings more to a point fighting game. Just my 2 cents.

im not trying to put your down either. youre probably seeing all the bearbows from pve. when u see an lb ranger who knows what hes doing (not necessarily me), you’ll remember it. thanks for your 2c.
I’ve been running power ranger LB in tpvp just fine, just because it didn’t work before the patch, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work now.
on maps like foefire and temple, you can effectively cover your bunker, 3 shotting lights and forcing defensives from opposing bunks.
Fear and point-blank for people trying to res their downed, barrage to stop dodge retreats, stealth for when they inevitably try and send someone to try and deal with you.
Autos hitting for 3-4k crits per, just plinking without the possibility of retaliation unless they give up the point.
Just because the game-mode is conquest, doesn’t mean 100% of your team has to be on the point. Having an on-point bunker and DPS on 2 safe points with a ranger to roam between the home and mid points is perfectly viable.
Know your role people! Ranger power builds, for any given team comp, compete at for a team role with thiefs and mesmers. What does this mean? They are a roaming, damage class. Roamers aren’t always necessarily even good 1v1 duelists (I mean, they are, but they tend to be so damage focused that part of their build has an extremely exploitable weakness, like mesmers and thieves versus condi damage, so you have to know what you’re up against and be able to handle the situation).
You’re job is to go where you’re needed, helping in team fights to DPS targets down, and you have the map mobility to be able to harass far point whenever you can, especially for free neuts/caps.
Just like a thief with shortbow versus their burst weapon set, and a mesmer with their shatters and rotations, you need to know when to swap to greatsword (I wouldn’t run longbow without greatsword in PvP since the build I’m thinking of is a zerker and the sword/x has much more of a utility purpose in PvP than it does damage). Longbow is not burst, it is sustain. Knowing when to swap to greatsword and how to burst with it is an absolute necessity.
The build itself requires skill as a generic roamer to use before it can ever be effective, and then on top of that you have to effectively be able to play the build. However, that doesn’t mean that the build isn’t viable. There are just zero (actually, 1, Eurantien, but for exaggeration purposes) people with that skill level running the build at top tiers, and I can say without hesitation that other top tier players that don’t play ranger currently would actually be able to play the build extremely effectively before I can start naming off a list of ranger players.
Heck, I’m not even on my own list lol, I would not be able to perform at the level my team would need me to on the build. Granted, I’d be more of a benefit to my team than I currently am when I queue on my shatter mesmer (I am SO sorry to all my teammates, but it’s the best way to learn), but I know for a fact I don’t have the experience playing a glassy build and the roaming mindset (terrible at dedicating myself to decisions), and I’d have to see a few of the people I hold in high regards in the ranger community actually play the build before I’d confidently list them off here (sorry guys, don’t know many of us that play glass outside of Eurantien is all, nothing against you).
All in all, the build is definitely viable in its own right, though a big thing ranger power builds wouldn’t be able to fill as a roamer versus the current power roaming classes is that we don’t have the boon removal that shatter mesmers and Sleight of Hand thieves have. That alone is the biggest issue zerker/power ranger builds have always had in PvP, or more generically stated, we lack some of the utility that other classes bring to the table playing similar roles, and have slightly less burst in favor of more sustain.
Sorry for the long, ranty post. It just irks me that people are trying to discredit the build without actually trying to evaluate it in any sort of manner.

On my phone so I can’t post a super long reply, but Rym I feel like that’s not true, lb can be a very valuable tpvp weapon if used correctly. As was already stated the key is knowing when to go melee
Then I have yet to face a LB ranger who would pose some serious threat or impress me in tpvp.
As it stands for today, all I see are either LB rangers going full zerk and dying in seconds when put to toe2toe combat with a healing spring or ones who as I said, stay somewhere above and mash Long Range Shot doing nothing for their team, in fact.
Most of them don’t even know that LB is good utility weapon for stealthstoping or try to fire Barrage under pressure.
Maybe I’ll live long enough to see LB Ranger taken into serious teams. Sure, I can play with that, I play LB Ranger very often when solo roaming on WvW, but it isn’t viable against meta specs.
If I were to run SotF now, I would probably run with shortbow and carrion amulet.

In my opinion it’s 100% viable in solo que. And atm it definitely has a place in tpvp. Granted it’s probably not a contender for a spot in one of the top teams but seriously how many of us play on one of the top teams? It does what it’s designed to do. And it was said earlier that you don’t have to be on a point to contribute. If a theif had to be on a point the whole time then they probably wouldn’t last so long would they? (:
