Hey all, just wondering if anyone could check out my screens and let me know how my build is looking. I’m trying to focus on a high dps/crit ranger that also has decent survivability.

I basically just want to know if this spread makes sense and see how my stats match up with other lvl 80 rangers….thanks!

PvP or PvE focused? I guess there isn’t a right and wrong with this kind of thing, but I’m curious about your skills more than stats. I don’t see much use in using Signet of Stone without it affecting you as well. I guess you want you pet a little more viable, but in PvP (I mainly play WvW), your pet is rarely attacked directly.

i pve much more than pvp…mostly open world stuff and some dungeons.

i use quickening zepher. signet of the hunt, signet of stone and rampage as one.

It really depends on your own play style and preference, but if you’re looking for dps/crit with decent survivability and mainly in PvE, I’d recommend retraiting to 30/30/x/x/x and seeing how it works out, and if it doesn’t you can move points back into WS/BM until you get to a level that you feel meets your requirement for ‘decent’ survivability.

It’s only 3.50s or something to retrait. A good investment to find the build that suits you best.

Who said ‘glass cannon’? You can stack enough defense via your equipment, and I run 30/30/5/0/5 in all dungeons just fine like that. My advice to OP is it’s up to him to decide how much defense is enough for sufficient defense, and to not listen to people who tell him what is and isn’t ‘viable’ based on their own play style instead of his.

It’ll be fine, seriously. Just don’t gauge your build’s performance on the first run (because everything is new). You’ll find that when things get you, it’s because of a bad decision about when to use melee, or bad timing on a dodge with a boss’ damage spike. The dungeons don’t punish you for the traits you pick.

Your gonna need to raise your toughness. I suggest decreasing a bit of power for toughness. Knights gear is right in line with what your looking for has +power +precision +toughness. And contrary to ^above poster 30/30/5/0/5 is still glass cannon. Try something like 20/30/10/0/10 yes your sacrificing power but you still have high crit rate even your traits will work but then you need to gear properly for it.

Your current armor is 2283 and you are traited pretty well so no need to retrait yourself. I suggest trying to gear yourself to increase toughness so that your overall armor rating stands between 2500-2800. If you sacrifice a bit of power I think it is possible also keeping your current crit rate. If you have decent survivability in dungeons like SE/CoE you should be good. PvP is a different aspect though as glass cannon in WvWvW is way more viable. For sPvP though your current build should be pretty good.

Every 100 toughness added to the base armor rating is roughly a 3.4% decrease on incoming damage, if that helps at all. There is also diminishing returns (on all stats except vitality apparently), meaning that after a certain breakpoint that I’m uncertain of exactly, points in toughness provide less damage reduction. i.e. the protection boon, which is 33% damage reduction, roughly equates to about 1300 toughness.

Other tested ideas are things like doubling your current armor rating is what is needed to gain 50% more damage reduction than what you have now (aka 2*1980 = 3960 for a 50% damage reduction).

What I’m trying to point out is that by doing some math, you can decide for yourself what you want your armor rating to be. Personally I would aim for 2600+ armor and a bottom number of 19.5k health, but that is just personal preference.
