Ancient seed elite trait
How are you going to CC them in order to trigger it on CD, as a trapper?
To answer your question: Probably.
I can’t wait to troll people with my Sylvari ranger in WvW. Grasping Roots utility, Ancient Seed, Runes of the Grove, Entangle, Jungle Spider.
How are you going to CC them in order to trigger it on CD, as a trapper?
you will not have to in fact you will not even have to move if you stand right by them and use a trap that will kick off the ancient seed trait then use bonfire then entangled skill then a pet skill to trigger trait again.i do major damage already by using spike trap then entangled then bonfire this new trait is going to make killing much easier.holding point is going to be tons of fun

But it only affects hard CC’ed targets O_O
im confused on what your trying to say all you do is hit someone that is dazed, stunned, or knocked down for it to go off
yeah but for trapper you have only one skill that does that, spike trap and it’s on a fairly long CD, and most builds have at least one way to get out of such a situation so you will have to bait their use of it and then you have not much to trigger it again at all because dog knockdowns are easily avoided

If you use utility skills for the CC, you have no traps, the only trap with CC is Spike trap on a 4t5s/36s CD, You’d have to use Moa pets with daze or canines for the KD, as well as a SB/GS for the daze. Which is a lot of investment.
It is smart to have such a CD, you can take advantage of it to make it happen all the time, but it requires an entire build made around it and gimps your pets etc.
Well if we start seeing trappers who run LB, off hand axe, SB, or GS then the CCing part wouldn’t even be that big of a deal, not to mention the trapper could always just say “kitten it” and take the Glyph of Daze + moment of Clarity for a 4s Daze which would double as a stun break when in their celestial form.
I see Druid trapper being a very strong alternative to the trapper build as it is now, but i don’t think it’ll be strong enough to replace it, just be something alongside it.

Shortbow isn’t my weapon of choice but it’s not terrible for trapper builds. I’ve also taken to running heyena/wolf lately in PvP, dodging 1 hound leap on point isn’t that tough but when you have to worry about 3 leaps, taunt, entangle, and blowing an opening dodgeroll through the point to trigger the traps….. there’s only so much cc they can avoid in such a small area.
Of course what I really hope is that they add knockback to the list of CC that triggers the trait so that it’s effective with my power build.
They made a Lesser Signet of Vampirism for the Neck-rub-mancer. They could probably do the same for this skill with Entangle. Maybe it should only last 2-3 seconds. As it is it’s definitely strong, but Rangers don’t have enough aoe CC effects to be able to make it broken on its own. You kinda have to take a few signets to really cheese it. It’s a hard trait to make OMG OP, but it is a little too strong now, I have to agree.
hope not……..it’s the trait that has me most excited to play the spec as a lockdown specialist.

I’m just wondering why Knockback wasn’t included in the description and why Launch was included. Ranger has no access to Launch on any skill nor pet.
Even the new Wyvern pets use Knockback as well as the new Glyph. Ranger has plenty of access to Knockback on weapons and pets in fact. It should not be excluded.
Druid will always have Lunar Impact (A 3s AOE daze on kitten CD in Celestial Form). Trapper gets one trap with knockdown, so that’s already 2 AOE procs for the trait, if used well.
SB 5 also dazes, long enough to proc the trait from a following AA…

SB 5 has an 8s CD with Quick Draw <3
With Glyph of Equality or maybe just Lightning Reflexes…
+ Druidic Clarity (Cleanse all condis on Celestial Form entry)
+ Natural Stride (+33% passive speed, -33% less duration on chill, cripple and immob)
+ Ancient Seeds
EDIT: Why is the game censoring “5s CD”?

Its working great also with our dogs, hyna and put 2 KD, the ranger jut need to hit the target under the CC.
Imagine running this with a lockdown Mesmer or Scrapper…

In the video the dude says knockback 3 or 4 times when talking about how this is triggered… he even gives an example using the new AOE KNOCKBACK glyph with it to do nasty things.
Id be very suprised if KB doesnt trigger it after he said all that.
I run with my friend GS/hammer warrior for roaming.
So i have no problems at all with Stuns
He will stun more often, than these skill will go from cooldown xD
There is one major unusual counter play against this trait: stability
because the trait requires CC, the immobilize won’t apply through stability.
So flamethrower engi will be immune to this completely for example.

Not completely, you can still CC a flamethrower engi, it’s just very difficult for someone like the ranger who has few CCs available simultaneously.

Primal Echoes. For instance, lay Flame Trap -> swap to staff -> ??? ->profit
Edit:made it memeworthy
Doesn’t seem like the trait should work with launch (spike trap) based on what it says.
Am I good?… I’m good.
it says knockdown on the tooltip so spiketrap should be fine

Spike Trap is not a launch affect unless it’s a launch of 0, now i’m curious if the prone position people end up in after a launch is considered “Knocked Down” or still Launched….

Spike Trap is indeed a launch. It’s a straight vertical launch, but it’s a launch.

Yeah, it is a 1 second launch.
