Any plans to fix sword auto attack?
When we first got hold of Revenent it had a lot of attacks that locked it in an animation resulting in it taking a lot of damage it couldn’t avoid. The answer there seemed to be ‘slap evade on everything’.
Nice to see the rapid response for Revenant weapon skills…

Currently the best anyone can answer is that ArenaNet has no plans to fix the Core Ranger. This is based on lack of feedback and fixes over the past 3 years. Do not get your hopes up.

There isn’t a problem with the sword. Working as intended. Take the step to master this weapon as is. Whether there is or isn’t a change to the way this works you will be better for it.
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.

My keyboard won’t, though. Is it really too much to ask to be able to use a weapon without mashing the 1 key constantly?
Fellows like you need to stop resisting quality of life changes just because you think you’re a better player for being able to compensate for a glaring design flaw in how the game is coded. This problem has been persistent for three years because of it.

There are alot of games that don’t have auto attack.
Maybe they should rework the AA concept into a “hold this key for basic attack”.

You are able to do this yourself since it is essentially the same. ANet states you cannot perform more than 1 function with 1 key press. Since AA is automatic, one only needs to press #1 in order to turn it on. It’s an inbuilt macro. Having #1 set to repeat while held is the same thing. In this case, its actually more work than just having AA turned on, since you need to continually hold it down for it to work. Don’t quote me on this, because they have all sorts of ways to interpret it. I may make a thread about it to ask.
I don’t have to turn auto attack off to use 1h sword. If your still at the level where need to manually use aa the they above macro ideal should suite you.
Manually having to press1 leads to a loss of dps and a lot of hand pain. This is why I never advocated for people to turn off aa. It also hampers your ability to learn the timing.
If you think 1h sword is a pain cant wait to hear what you say about staff. At least with the sword your not spamming 3 skills every second.

Then I guess you’ve attained a level of skill where losing control of your character every second or so doesn’t open up brief, yet consistent, phase where your opponents can time their own attacks for guaranteed damage, and you’re able to see what your opponent’s next move is and time everything perfectly.
For those of us without the gift of prophecy though, the ability to dodge and use skills to break the leap animation on demand would go a long way to making this weapon usable.
And would also not negatively effect your ability to use the weapon in any way aside from taking away bragging rights.

That works fine vs. npc’s that follow predictable patterns. It doesn’t work so well when fighting other players especially when it’s not a 1v1. But you already said in the other thread that your approach to 1vX situations is to pop quickness and suicide bomb them with your auto attacks in the hopes of taking 1 with you when you die. You’d still be able to do that with a less broken sword but the rest of us would have the option to control our positioning so we could survive some of those fights.
Or better yet, they could give us the revenant fix and let our autos evade everything. We’ve spent 3+ years with the weapon being broken in our opponents favor, why not break it in our favor for awhile.
I think we’re talking about PvE here. In PvE there is no reason to turn autoattack off.
In PvP, you generally don’t just go ham on the sword autoattack, regardless of how good you are with it, so “spamming 1” shouldn’t be a problem. Unless you’re playing a power dual melee build you’re barely ever going to sword autoattack at all. Why would you even touch it in a settlers condi build? You won’t use it on a power LB build unless you’re behind the guy in an entangle where dodges don’t matter. You’re certainly not going to go toe to toe with someone as a LB ranger.

Go look at Serraphim’s arguments in this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Bow-should-not-be-Mandatory/first#post5590943
Charging in and spamming 1 is pretty much exactly what he saying to do.
I’ve played dual melee and I know how much damage you can inflict with the sword, but you have to be in and out with it. Wait until you hit them with a CC or something. Popping QZ to charge 3 people on point isn’t the way to play it. Odds are you won’t even down 1 of them since everybody and their brother has vamp runes or a save their kitten trait.
Well … I made Frostfang and Jormag’s Breath (and put it in an asc sword) for my ranger, guess who will use both after HoT, my rev for sure, coincidentally s/a is also among the revenant’s highest damage setup, and above that all it is a quite fun weapon set to play, has a good evade time with sword #3, blink with axe #4, a control skill to stack mobs with axe #5.
I like my ranger so much but I’m finding less and less reasons to play it in PvE every day, my ranger will likely ending as a heal bot that I’ll log once a week if my guild doesn’t have someone else.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

I’ll be using the exact same on my Rev I was using it as A/S on my Warrior.
My ranger has the FDS and Titan’s Vengeance.
