Over the last couple of months we’ve all seen an increasing number of complaints….

“Ranger’s are so useless in wvw! OMG Rangers need to be totally rebuilt! Traps! Spirits! WvW! F2 skill! Axes!” We’ve all heard it. We know what the common complaints are….

This isn’t to say there aren’t problems, of course there are. But there are problems with every class.

So what I’m wondering….are there any other rangers out there who take pride in the fact that they are Rangers? Are there any other Rangers out there who dont just coast by in sPvP or WvW, but who feel they excel?

If you’re a Ranger’s who really does know your class and want you want to shout out “IM A RANGER AND LOVE IT!!!” Or if you’re new to the class and but still realize you picked the BEST class…..

I am tired of all the hate as well. I love my Ranger as well as my trusty pet, Frank!

I love my ranger and I will stick with him through thick and thin.

I do think we need more build diversity though.

As soon as my Ranger hit 80 she replaced my elementalist as my main. Right off the bat I noticed a huge difference. How much harder I hit, how I felt like I could handle more, and my cute Fern Hound.
I love running around Orr, I can take on multiple mobs without me or my pet dying and I enjoy dungeons more. I feel like I do great in PVE and I play exactly how I want to without following any cookie cutter builds.
Plus, I’m rarely see another ranger running around without a bear. If it’s not a bear it’s a spider. I run double wolves so I feel kinda rare. At least on my server.

Ranger, while it may not be king of the dps pile at the moment, is a sturdy and versatile class. Its got its quirks and unless bits, but it’s still awesome in its own unique way.

My main is an 80 ranger. I also have an 80 thief which I don’t like and a 61 guardian that is okay and low level alts of the rest of the professions.

This game lives or dies for me based on the ranger though. Right now it’s wonderful for general PvE and decent for WvW (imho). I’ve been waiting on something to make dungeons…. better before I really bother with those though.

If Anet ever did to the ranger what they did in the beta again I’d probably rage quit for a while though. On the other hand if they really fix the ranger I’ll probably play more.

i love my ranger even though i just made it! i wish i could choose not to have a pet sometimes but, oh well yes it has its problems but they will be fixed eventually
in the mean time me and my friend Pvt Richard Eater will be destroying mobs!!

have tried warr, not very fun tho its still at low lvl
thief was pretty fun (also lowbie) but meeting them in wvw has made me dislike them quite abit lol

I like my ranger, but it is easier to solo on my thief just cause I can escape fights….My Ranger is better at 1v1’s though.

Rangers are enjoyable, but having used it and mesmer extensively in WvW, the only place where a ranger is more useful is running away. Mesmer has more utility in a siege situation and is a much better skirmisher, even with bad traits.

I think I enjoy ranger more in PvE… just. It’s a little more satisfying, unless I’m fighting ranged mobs where one of my mesmers (yeah… I levelled two to 80) can make them kill themselves with reflection.

I enjoy ranger in pve a lot, it’s my favorite class. That being said in wvw it definitely needs some love. Anet Is aware of it, I hope they give us the much needed tweaking we have been asking for, and not pass us over because they think we are fine with it.

Here is why you are a noob. You think ranger is fine, yet seems like thats all you have played. Ive played every class in this game and ranger is bottom of the ladder. Most other classes can do what ranger does but better. Pets need to be scrapped bad. Or atleast the option to not use one. I love my ranger, but I cant stand playing him. Try a rifle warrior or dps guardian sometime, or even a glass cannon necro, so many other classes are better than ranger that its not funny. Sure ranger has some good builds 1v1, traps and evasion tank, but other classes still do bunker or condi builds better. When the only class you play is ranger then you think ranger is fine. I play against GOOD players and I can assure you, ranger isnt.

Yes indeed.
I wanted a melee skirmisher that actually had proper sustainability and tools for in your face combat.
I dropped my war for a while and picked up Ranger and as soon as I got some SPvP experience under my belt started making my way to 80 in WvW. I LOVE my ranger! He’s the warrior I always wished I would’ve had. Sword/Dagger + Greatsword, Wolf+Drakehound. It’s quite possibly the most rewarding time I’ve had as a melee toon yet. The skillcap is high, the reward is high and 1v2-3 is potentially viable.

CC, Regen/sustain, burst setups, team support, mobility. It’s got it all.

Best thing is that for sieges I don’t have to respec, just throw on my longbow and lay down some pain (I run a major emphasis on Power/Toughness, with a nice balance of prec/vit/critdamage). On demand quickness stomps are freaking awesome too, along with the aoe CC for quickness revives on fallen teammates as well.

I hated the pets at first, and they’re still buggy and die far too easily in WvW, but they do provide a nice functionality with the knockdowns, aoe fear and aoe immobilize. The class might need some work, yes but overall it rocks hardcore potential.

I literally cannot stand another ranger hate topic.

If you use the pets right, trait beastmastery for lower vita/tough pets, and switch them whenever you can or when they are dying, Rangers do a lot of damage.

I can break it down into two categories of complaints:

1. Rangers aren’t the best at ranged! They should be all ranged!

Even though ANET defines them as unparalleled archers, in reality they are beastmasters. And if you learn to play them, not bad beastmasters at all. They are a pet class, deal with it.

2. Pets suck! The cooldown is too long! They die too fast!

Well, if people ACTUALLY PAYED ATTENTION to the pet’s health as it’s screaming in pain and switched it out, this would be a none issue. And traiting into beastmastery isn’t a problem. I can name tons of classes where you GENERALLY want to trait into the very last trait line.

I’ve played since headstart, I don’t understand what half the complaints are about.

My hawk/eagle burst enemies to death with their f2 and switch-quickness in PVE, and for when I need that extra bit of defense and help, like in dungeons, my Moas provide strong support and heals (I never see anyone melee with moas, despite the fact that they keep you and your group healthy. They’re like mini-guardians.)

The only place you are gonna see ranger love love posts is on the ranger forum, keep patting yourself on the back and saying its all good.

I for one started as a ranger but shifted my main to mesmer as I am a very active WvWer. I however when I picked up spvp again, I fell in love with my ranger again, swinging and doing wildly around with sword/dag + great sword tanking more than most can throw at me while mesmer will be my main in WvW (until maybe some ranger changes), ranger has a special place in my heart and my favorite fighter in the mists

People are complaining about rangers being bad at WvW?

I was -TOTALLY- not someone who was instrumental in taking a tower, not at all… I didn’t slaughter people at all >_> no, no siree, classes are soooo unbalanced….

The sad truth is, most the time the classes really aren’t unbalanced, it’s just that when a player is bad at a class or gets murdered by them all the time they pull out the “unbalanced” card.

I LOVE my ranger, it managed to take place as my main over my Mesmer (which I LOVED). Ranger is just so mobile… I use a sword/horn, long bow set and I’m throwing myself and my enemy everywhere…. I’ve caused more confusion on my ranger than I ever did on my Mesmer, which is CRAZY.

I’ve been a level 80 ranger for only a week or so, and I’m still learning new stuff everyday. The profession could use some tweaking sure, since Ranger <→ Burrows (AC) and Dungeons <→ Pets don’t really go hand in hand right now. But for the most part I LOVE this profession.
So yes, I’m proud of being a ranger, and I’m striving to get better at it everyday.

No, not tired. the class is broken of what exactly should i be tired? If everyone doesn’t hate rangers, it will take anet 3 years to change anything on them.

I’m no ranger, but the last good ranger I fought was spamming omnomberry pies, so you can take a wild guess how that went. I can’t really talk as a necro, but I’de really like to see these classes gain some weird but viable builds instead of struggling with the one or two viable ones.

I love the Ranger, but I would never play it in sPvP or WvW with its current damage output. I just feel like I have to put too much effort into maximizing my damage, which isn’t fun to me. Playing a Mesmer in PvP feels much more natural. The Rangers I fight against in WvW, also all feel like they aren’t dealing enough damage to me, which is disappointing. So I’m only using my Ranger in PvE at the moment, hoping that the damage will one day feel on pair with my Mesmer, so I can use it in PvP.

I love my ranger, but I wish Arkie and Winston (my arctodus and brown bear) wouldn’t get smoked on every boss fight.

I am a proud ranger because I have seen my ranger first fail at everything, but eventually I found success in all areas of GW2 gameplay, and I am still improving.

At the same time, I am very tired of ranger hate. Not in the forums, because here is where constructive criticism should be given to those who are still dealing with ranger issues. Here is where we discuss how to make things better and plead, as best as we humanly can, to the developers to improve existing issues. We also need to educate young rangers in issues that we, the more experienced, have learned to overcome.

So it is inside the game that I find ranger hate incomprehensible. In dungeons, in WvW, in parties, in PvP. I believe this stems from those who tried ranger and quit, who know how annoying the class can be, but never put the time to truly master it. People who think that a pro ranger isn’t prone to human mistakes. This is the kind of ranger hate that I hate. Now, I feel that I excel already, but dealing with annoying players who hate is what makes it hard to be a happy team player.

My advice to all you rangers out there is to be patient and make the best out of the situation.

Many people here never even tried spvp on a ranger and think it must be good since in pve they’re decent and strong to solo. I think most of them think they’re fine as is lmao

I love my ranger. Played over 300h on him and still i find it fun.

Yes you need to work twice as hard to get same result as lets say warrior but thats why game is full of warriors and most them suck because it attracts people who looks for easiest solution.

Im not saying i dont see flaws . I see many and i hope AgreedyNet is working on them.

I love being a ranger, got my guardian/mesmer/elementalist stuck in the 50s just because I got addicted to WvW and now it is ranger all the way.

Do I want changes? OH YES. But for variety. I have a few build that work well, but there are so many things out there I would like to play with that just doesn’t work as intended. Like the spirits and a lot of the utility skills. I would love for even more variation.

Aaaand pets that works better in dungeons.

They need fixing. But they are not broken completely. So, hating the hate posts for me

I don’t get it. We all love our Ranger, that is why we are here. That is why we are toughing it out. However, pretending everything is O.K and we’ll “work around” our massive bug list and broken class mechanic is delusional. I mean, when Jon Peter’s said Longbow’s were fine the way they were. That’s….just…what?

These bugs aren’t about a lack of skill or a lack of Micro managing your pet. It’s straight up : “This is broken.” The lack of communication from the Dev team is the #1 reason why there is a cry of frustration from Rangers.

One time, a Dev posted that we’ll be getting fixes soon. By the next 2 patches, we got underwater buffs. -.-" We have no idea what their plans are anymore and when we can expect to see any progression.

And I don’t know about you guys, but when there’s a content patch, I immediately scroll down to the Ranger notes. My thoughts afterwords usually consist of massive disappointment and “Wait…really?”

It’s built up resentment, that is why these posts are mostly bitter. And maybe, just maybe, if we’re loud enough, the Dev’s will hear our tiny little cries for help.

I do love my Human Ranger, I love Archery, I love the feel of nature….but something’s not right here.

Nothing wrong with loving the class, but turning a blind eye towards its issues is foolish. I hope anet does something about this, but until then, I personally cant stand my ranger even tho its my favorite class.

Funny thread. Ranger love thread yet it is filled with these quotes from folks who love thier rangers: “potential”, " needs some love", “fixed eventually”, “but” (which nullifies everything you just said before), " (pets) … actually paid attention to" (are great, but not if you can’t always pay attention cause your having to dodge or move etc..), “sturdy versitile” (read mediocre), “class is broken”, “yes, you need to work twice has hard”.

This isn’t a great testimonial to the Ranger Love Thread. It is the only class I play. I have my uses in WvWvW, which is what I enjoy, but it is far from being the best class to play in WvWvW. That’s to bad, but it is what you get in a game about balance, sometimes the balance is off. Sure in a perfect situation our class can shine, or with the perfect build in the perfect situation, however, overall it is an average class.

HEY DANTE!!!! Here is why you are a noob you think you know your class better than anyone and yet you don’t realize there ALREADY IS an option to stow your pets.

In all honesty, if you’re looking for a 3-button win class, Ranger isn’t for you. However if you’re willing to get over the "I don’t have an obvious “obliterate” button" and get down to really figuring out your class, you can do amazingly well with a Ranger.

There is a running joke on my server, but a good portion of our best, most active WvW commanders are Rangers. People say Rangers suck in sPvP and WvW but the truth is, they simply havent figured out how to use them

You are obviously new to the forums. Im not talking about stow till you enter combat, Im talking about perma stowing pet even during combat and getting a damage boost when its stowed. Its been all over the ranger forums. I think you should learn how to use the web slang troll better. Also I do know the class better than most people since Ive been playing it since beta and know pretty much all there is about the class give or take a few things.

As for WvW, any other class can do what rangers can do but better. I can show videos of other classes killing enemies in seconds while a ranger struggles to get his. Trust me, people have learned how to use the class especially by now. Thousands of rangers saying the same thing are not wrong. Just because someone on a ranger has commander title doesnt mean the class isnt broken. Its stupid to think otherwise. I doubt any1 wants rangers to be op, but we would like to be able to build the way we like and be viable. I mean, I wanna go glass cannon without feeling like a slingshot and more like a cannon. Pets are more of a burden for me than a good thing.

Why would you want no pet? Lose small amounts of DPS because you’re convinced pets are broken. Have you played a Mesmer? A necro? Play those for a few hours and complain about pets.

And pets aren’t solely damage puppets, they have a variety of abilities to support the ranger, and can be set to guarding you and mitigating damage. The idea of a pet is to give the ranger another way of kiting and mitigating damage. (Honestly I believe the developers stole the pet stuff from WoW, but did it a bit more poorly)

If pets where on par with another player, or even halfway on par, in terms of health and damage, that would give rangers very un fair advantages for picking on someone, more so than a Mesmer….

And Kell is using the word “troll” correctly. Someone who purposely comments, conversates, and insults a topic and thus hindering its ability to be productive. Someone who spitefully speaks against someone to either agitate them or express unneeded hate.

I like my pet, they could be better sure…but for my build they’re incredibly useful.

I love rangers and always will. Super fun in spvp. I think the reason that a lot of people are complaining is that there are glaring problems with the ranger class mechanic (pets) in end game content. That’s why I love it in spvp… Pets are very useful.

I have played those, there is nothing to complain about on mesmer, and necro can resummon his kitten easily. Idc about necro, I care about ranger. No he isnt, he didnt understand my post so he called me a troll. I dont want a pet because they are stupid and flawed. The ideal behind perma stow is while our pet is stowed, we gain a 40-50% damage buff to make up for the damage pets do. I dont want pets to be on par with other players, I want them to actually hit other players. Also mesmers dont have pets, they have clones, they can summon clones right next too u, even if you are on a cliff, you cant do that with rangers pets. Pets are a problem atm no matter how you look at it. They have upsides but alot more downsides. The only thing I want pets to have on par with players is health, because having 10k hp in a game where people crit for 12k is stupid.

You have your opinion and I have mine, but dont call me a troll because you dont understand my post about perma stow. I hate when casuals or pvers get on here and try to pretend they are good.

Also, yea you could go the utility route with a pet and sacrifice tons of damage, its just not worth it tho. Thats my point, other classes can keep their max damage while getting their utility as well. Going from a raven too a spider will show u the difference, you give up tons of burst and damage for a root? Not worth it at all. And pretty sure spider dies faster.

I am not turning a blind eye to issues, I am just accepting the fact that the game is dynamic and there will probably always be something to fix because it’s not perfect. At the moment, I am content and will play my ranger because I don’t think there are issues preventing me from doing so. Every class has their own complaints, it is just tiresome to see so much of ragequit and whining instead of useful or constructive conversation about the class.

Pets are our mechanic. They are not going to go just go away, why would we get the option to change our class mechanic? That doesn’t make sense, no class can get a damage boost and benefit for opting out of the class mechanic. You are the one turning a blind eye, in your case toward the merits, ability, and mechanic of the ranger class, of which I think the majority is beginning to recognize.

I’m a Ranger and I have no problem with it at all… I take pride in being a Ranger. Because unlike thieves and warriors you don’t see 100’s of Rangers running around. I feel more unique. I enjoy pets, just the companionship not their effectiveness. I love bows. And most of all I don’t for one second believe it’s “Broken”. And if you feel it is broken then you should play a different profession.

I probably like it so much because I love bows in real life too, and I’ve done archery for the passed 9 years of my life so I have a strong passion for Archery. But Ranger is a lot of fun to me =]

DancinPuppeh: To be honest, I see as many rangers as thieves and warriors. It’s not like we are some obscure, hard to play profession. With brown bear, we can cheese through PvE like no other.

I can understand the reason for hating the profession. There is so many things wrong with the ranger, and the fact we’ve been given false promises from devs before does not help to raise morale. Now we’ve got zero information from devs, and from past experiences with patches, when we’ve been given hardly if any fixes, apart from irrelevent underwater combat, many players feel that complaining and hate is the only way to get devs to finally do something about ranger problems. You can’t really blame them.
