Ascalonian Ranger.
I think every ranger and necro have faced their ascalonian counterpart and thought ‘ kitten I wish my point blank shot hit that hard and recharged that often/ I wish my life syphon could drop someone in 2 hits’ lol
Our spike traps do the same thing, they just don’t hit very hard. (Immobilize isn’t in the tooltip)
Our longbow 4 does the same thing, it just doesn’t hit very hard.
I still wish they would’ve just worked towards letting pets attack while moving. The recent change was an okay buff, but our pets still run into the issue that even if they can hit a player/mob when they move away, they still need to catch up to the target to land a 2nd hit which is pretty horrid in pvp. In pve its not so bad.
Its not that I want to be op, I just want the style of ascolian rangers + wintersday scouts. I dont want rapid fire being the biggest hitter, Id rather it be a charge up shot, similar to kill shot except we hold the button down, that would be amazing. I still hate pets with a passion tho. No getting around that. As for spike trap, it only roots if you pick up the trap trait. Id love it if they added some burst traps instead of these stupid kitten condi traps. Or make it so the traps scale with power or something, idk. But I would like some options to have some damage utilities with a power/crit build.
I do have to agree with Dante, if only for artistic flavor. To me, shortbow is the flashy, impossibly fast nock and draw bow, and it does it well.
Every shot on LB except Rapid Fire is a single draw – even Barrage, it just uses a fistful of arrows. Rapid Fire stands out as something that might have been a Shortbow skill at one time, and one long power shot seems to fit more.
Perhaps ANet thought it was too similar to Point Blank Shot, but a longer wind up or rooting effect or condition (Weaken? Maybe it knocked the wind out of the target.) could help differentiate it.

Exactly, I wouldnt mind being the weakest classi n the game if they made it so longbow skills looked like a longbow archer/sniper. I know anet doesnt want rangers to have a sniper build but they really should give longbow htat feel, no1 I know of wants to play longbow the way it is now. Aesthetically I would love it if they just turned rapid fire into a kill shot type move, just put all its damage into 1 shot and maybe even gave it a special effect like the scouts, longer you hold it the further and faster it goes, and more damage, but mostly the speed and length of the shot.

I think the reason rapid fire is rapid fire and not a single uber shot is because rapid fire plays better with combo fields, and because it distributes its damage over a longer time frame it gives opposing players a chance to try take countermeasures. Both of those lead to a more involved experience for the Ranger and its allies/enemies. It’s also going to fare better against freak/buggy ‘obstructions’, which will only screw up a fraction of the damage instead of the whole thing.
If they could make a single aimed shot not just 100% projectile finisher but also carry amplified combo effects, and maybe in PvP warn the opposing player by marking them with that ground target like some PvE mob snipers do, that might make up for it… but I don’t think it’s an easy change to make, and it changes lots of different dynamics (combos, PvP, synthesis with other skills) that have to be assessed.

That makes no sense at all. If that was the case, kill shot would give a fat kitten warning to anyone about to be hit by it. I dont get an involved feeling when I rapid fire, I get an irritated boring feeling. Shooting 10 arrows in 5 secs is boring especially after seeing volley in 2.5, giving rangers a charge up shot similar to the scouts instead of rapid fire would be amazing, give us a real archer feeling with the diversity of just how much to charge it up and how much not too. hell I wouldnt mind if they made long ranged shot like that but they really need to do something for rangers. Or just stop making awesome wintersday scouts, that kittens too much fun to stop playing.

Perhaps Rapid Fire could be replaced with a “kill shot” like Mercy Shot on the spear gun: More damage the less health the target has.
I’d call it Aimed Shot and it might cause Weakness or Blindness (because we’re aiming for the head? I dunno. I just think it needs a little pizzazz).
I’d prefer if they just made the LB #4 a charged shot like the Wintersday-Scout. Hold it, and the longer you hold it, the more damage it’ll do along with the knockback. It’d also be pretty easy to counter in PvP, so it wouldn’t be too horribly broken.

QFT. Auto attack is technically more damage than rapid fire… depending on how far away you are. Rapid fire isn’t scary to anyone on the receiving end, at all. This isn’t even close to being a “kill shot” or burst skill. It’s main role is combo fields, applying sharpening stones, and such.
