I try to find the best build for lvling with my pet as tank and me playing role of a dps/healer, so we work as a mini-party. I Decided to use longbow(rapid fire great for opening attacks, point blank and hunter shots to get away if enemy attacks me, and good aoe skill) and sword/axe (2 evasion skills with sword, another aoe in axe + stun). For pet i use drakes since they have high toughness and vitality while still maintaing decent power and among their skills are life steal and aoe. For skills i have Sic ‘em (short cooldown, good dmg bost for pet, helps him keep aggro), Signet of the Hunt (permanent 25% speed increase is great while lvling, another dmg boost for pet while activated) and Signet of Stone (invulnerability for pets for tough situations), Rampage as One as elite. The biggest problem i have is with traits. I wanted to boost my pet as high as possible so he can withstand as tank (witch means high survivability but also high dmg for keeping aggro). This is my idea: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAT8XnAVUFciFGWwahgYpQP+hpIRI6pA9q3VYUVIEI-jwxAYOB5ceETkDZtwVENW1CmelIq2nUEtahAMvAA-e
I think that stacking precision and going for Companion’s might is a best way, since it allows my pet to have a constant few stacks of Might on him while fighting. Then i would take 10 points in Nature’s Magic to have some more survivability on lower lvls, and 10 point in Beastmastery for Master’s Bond. Then 10 points in Marksmanship for Beastmaster’s Bond (since my pet is taking dmg he will be droping below 50% a lot). I’m not sure what to add next and if i spread my points to much in different trait lines. Are my ideas viable? Should i choose one or two trait lines and stick to them? Please post any advice you may give me.

I’m not sure I understand this topic. Making a level 80 build for levelling up seems contradicting. You should just make the build you want to use, when you are level 80, and then work towards that while you level up. Just chose the traits you feel you need, as you level. It’s easy and cheap to change your traits.

Sorry, i posted link to lvl 80build just as an template. What i meant was that my traits at lvl20 will look like that: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQBIAgVIRA.
at lvl 40: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQBYggVIRvCo3VYUA
at lvl 60: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQBggYVQPsCJ6pA9q3VYUA
when i reach lvl 80 i will probably change my build entirely depending on what i would want to do (wvw, dungeons, events)

I find it worth it to boost Beastmastery when leveling and then ditching everything invested in it at level 60.

What I did was go 10/10/0/0/10 until level 30. Take Steady Focus (10% bonus damage when endurance is full) from the Marksmanship, since your pet is doing some tanking you will have full Endurance in easy PvE content. Take Companion’s Might at 10 Skirmishing and whatever you like from BM.
Until level ~55 my goal would be to get 20/20/0/0/15. At this point it might be a good idea to have a longbow and shortbow so you can swap frequently for the fury on weapon swap. Take Spotter or Piercing Arrows from Marksmanship, those traits are a no brainer. Take Quick Draw at 20 Skirmishing or something else if you feel comfortable with all cooldowns.

When you hit 60 hell breaks loose in terms of builds and there are plenty of guides for “end-game” builds. At the moment I use this (but really just pick something with decent dps that is fun for you) :

I can run traited spirits in dungeons and my DPS is OK. QZ is a filler you can pick Frost Spirit, Signet of the Hunt for PvE or whatever you feel like. The Equipment is filler too, most ppl would tell you to go full zerker but I like to mix things up a bit.

Just try to have fun, once you get the hang of it you might find that its the most fun class in the game. GL
