Can’t find any juvinile pets at starter places

A low level ranger asked me where to find pets in Queensdale. Double-checked with the wiki and led him to the Shire of Beetleton (Juvenile Drake Hound) as well as the hill near the Hunting Lodge (Juvenile Forest Spider). Both pets are gone.

Reviewed this link that offered many clearly defined player changes. Pet locations, taming levels and tips are not covered.

Is there something in the new Ranger’s tutorial that advises them about this?

I certainly did notice the change but I wasn’t sure if it was due to location switches or level gating…or possibly both.
Hmm. I couldn’t find the dogs in Beetletun as I usually do, but I did find them in Wii’s mansion in Divinity’s Reach around the same time. I was about L12 then?

I don’t know the details, but essentially as part of the new leveling system you don’t unlock your class mechanics till later on. My guess is you can’t tame pets till you’re level 10-20.. so they removed them from the starting zones.

I didn’t really notice that till around ten. Boo on them for not informing us of THAT rather important aspect. I don’t think it was mentioned in any of the leveling spams.

Thinking the exact same here. Was planning to roll a third race for fun, but that new levelling experience, ugh…

Part of why I rolled a ranger 2 yrs ago was for the fun of adventuring through Tyria and hunting down new tamable pets. I had a solid handful to choose from before I’d out-leveled Caledon.

So glad I have almost all the classes to 80 already. This new leveling experience is certainly not for veteran players…or those with an IQ higher than 80.

I realize that agreeing with the recent changes is frowned on by the veteran community. However, this thread was opened to ask where juvenile pets could be located (since the wiki appears to be lagging behind) so I will refrain from rabbit-trailing.

I will inform new rangers that pet taming unlocks later on. Tamable juveniles will be found outside starting maps. That about sums it up.

They haven’t removed the few tamable pets from WvW, just ran by the wolves outside ogre camp today.

Flamingos are still in the bottom level of the Grove and Krytan Drake Hounds are still all over DR, so I’d imagine unless taming itself is locked until X level you can at least grab the “city pets”.
