This was done with 2130 power with steady weapons on the heavy target dummy in the mists. I did this to find the direct damage value’s behind auto attacks.

Format
Damage: What each attack hits for (averaged)
Attack Speed: How long the attack takes to cast in seconds
DPS: Damage/Attack Speed

Sword
Damage: 51,51,59 (53.6)
Attack Speed: .63
DPS: 85

Greatsword
Damage: 61
Time Between Attacks: .86
DPS: 70

Shortbow
Damage: 37
Attack Speed: .52
DPS: 71

Longbow
Damage (Long Rang): 106
Damage (Mid Rang): 77
Attack Speed: 1.24
DPS (Long Rang): 85
DPS (Mid Rang): 61

Axe
Damage: 44,50,53
Time Between Attacks: 1.071
DPS (bounce back to 1st target): 90
DPS (single tar): 44

So there still remains the question on how much the Short Bow Bleed contribute. What is is the minimum % of your damage it contributes? (assuming the bleed is applied)
All Direct Damage
2130 power
65% crit
2x Crit Damage
On Light Target Dummy
0 Condition Damage

With Crit Factored in, your Direct Damage auto attacks average out to…

~676 Direct Damage a shot
Each bleed applies 128 damage

Translate that % to our Steady Weapon Damage and it makes the Short bow on par with the Sword
Shortbow DPS = Sword DPS

Notes
Further testing needs to be done on the Sword, Greatsword, and Axe abilities.
Many appear to hit very hard.
Also need to compare Short Bow auto attack with full Condition Damage.
Also look at Axe and Sword Condition abilities with full Condition Damage

Um, what? Greatsword hits more people then sword… you know how fair and balanced it’d be if our big 2H not only did more damage but also cleaved EVERYONE infront of you? 1h sword can hit up to 3 targets on your first and last attacks, second attack is single target only…. And the Longbow did as much damage as sword at range, and the axe did THE MOST when you play to its gimmick, confirming what i’ve been saying all this time, that if you play to the gimmick each ranged weapon has you’ll do as much, or more damage then melee weapons which is unheard of for the other profs.

In Pve, the ranger is too squishy to pull many mobs to make use of the 2h swing that gets many targets.
The longbow needs range to be effective, once you have someone near you, you can dump it.
The axe is only good because you can use a warhorn with it.

Out of curiosity, did you average in the bonus DPS the 1h sword gets from the might it applies to the pet (or yourself with certain traits)? It might be worth noting approximately how much more damage it contributes in total.

Also, the Longbow DPS is very interesting, especially considering how many times it has been cited as the lowest DPS. Did you test it with Eagle Eye? While simply calculating 5% more damage is easy, I’d like to see if it really is giving the 5%.

Haven’t you heard? Direct weapon damage is the only type of damage in the game. Luckily, you can also ignore all utility present in any weapon because all fights in GW2 are 1v1 and really just boil down to two people standing in front of each other and exchanging punches to the face until one goes down.

All of those facts make this game very easy to understand, but build depth really suffers for some reason that I can’t quite put my finger on…

This was done with 2130 power with steady weapons on the heavy target dummy in the mists.

Axe
Damage: 44,50,53
Time Between Attacks: 1.071
DPS (bounce back to 1st target): 90
DPS (single tar): 44

I could not replicate these results.

I tested using 2139 power and the PvP Steady Axe (127-127 weapon strength). I used the Berserker’s Amulet, Berserker’s Jewel, and 30 points in Marksmanship, but no major traits or runes. Before recording results, I allowed all conditions to wear off the targets, which were the tight group of heavy target golems (armor=2597) in the Heart of the Mists.

Each attack from the axe #1 skill Ricochet was dealing precisely 52 damage (non-crit) to each target it hit.

This corroborates my previous testing, which found that direct weapon damage uses the formula:
D = P×W×C/A
Where D is the damage done, P is power, W is weapon strength, C is a skill-specific coefficient, and A is the target’s armor.

Using P=2139, W=127, C=0.500, and A=2597 [heavy target golem]:
D = 2139×127×0.500 / 2597 = 52.3, which is truncated to 52.

Might makes me right.
