Hi all,

First off – struggled to find a recent post re: beastmaster spec. May be a good reason for that but apologies if spamming.

Always been a fan of the Ranger – especially considering they get a lot of kitten and people moan about them so easily. I perhaps have an underdog complex maybe?

Anyway, I’ve been PvPing a lot lately and have been tinkering with various specs:

1) Spirit Build: standard, easy to play, can be boring.
2) Trapper: Dangerous! Often surprises enemies which is fun but I struggle to survive on it.
3) Longbow/Power: Not the best for PvP, can be effective though.

This variety led me to try out a spec I hadn’t really gone for previously: something pet focused.

To my surprise, I found it quite fun. Given the poor AI and the fact that pets struggle with moving targets, I loaded up on cripple and survivability (mainly so I can take a few hits while the pet unloads).

Yes, it’s not cookie cutter (by a long shot) but I find that I play better on builds I am comfortable with – makes sense I guess – and so the team benefits. Generally, I can one on one pretty well and, therefore, hold a node while also being able to cause problems to people in a melee, while surviving – provided I am sensible.

Anyhoo, I wanted to hear peoples opinons on a beastmastery focused spec and to share the ones they use (if at all!). I will post mine later on but am at work at the minute…

TL;DR Toying with a beastmastery spec, want to hear peoples opinions on it and the situations they use it in.

Where do you pick up the quest for the additional 5 trait points?

Not only the extra 5 points in traits that is off, but saying a BM spec is good for
everywhere is also rather funny.

Are we talking about a BM Bunker build, or we talking about letting your pet do damage?

This is a video I did when it worked really well, Problem is they nerfed the main source of damage a while back, which was Maul on Cats.

You also can’t send pets into keeps anymore which makes me sad :o(

Damage but its still prety much viable and yea theres an extra 5 my bad its because i never can figure if ill put it in nature magic or in survival. Always running cat, damage isnt bad the kitty still can nuke high if traited well and the spec is well balanced damage and survivability wise.

god why i cant edit message… Vaxx youd know by now that unless your fighting against subject alpha wich cover the maps with red circle pets is likely to work fine anywhere, just make sure you put it on passive and run spider as alternate choice on lupicus so to avoid grubbing it out to much, best bet could also be just to not fight at all on part 1 if your a ranger.

well i wonder now if pet swapping when hes grubbed would work too i never actualy took the risk to find out.

No pets don’t work fine anywhere. WvW is a perfect example. Outside of solo roaming, pets are pretty much useless. Even in a 1v1 fight using a melee pet against someone who has A,S,D,W keys makes them very underwhelming.

aside from pet behing kited by player wich doesnt mather once in a dungeon.

You said pets work are pretty much viable anywhere. I pointed at the areas they utter poopoo. PvE bores me to tears so I couldn’t care less what a pet does. You have to be braindead to fail in a dungeon anyway.

I stand by my statement, pets do not work “everywhere”.

They banned that forum account for hurting to many people’s feelings on the server matchups threads…well actually is more like getting infractions over the course of a year..I forget how many I had, I think 42 over a year or something…and some of the infractions were for stuff like saying pee…. or other silly crap like that.

Hahaha, I try to avoid matchup threads, those tend to heat up a bit. Well, I’m glad you’re still up and about posting in the ranger forums
