I have rather not good opinion about survi of only-ranged-rangers, but there was some funny builds for lb/sb.
also there are some funny build with melee-only.
and there are phew funny builds with combo melee-ranged
and.. which dungeons are “high end” for You?

…build wise that is. I know solo play and WvW and the build I use is 0/10/30/0/30 Cleric+PVT SB+GS/LB…But that is no build to take into high end dungeons.

I thought they all are :/ Ive only done a a couple of dungeons and really don’t want to go in using a WvW or PvP build.
You know cof p1 is so easy dungeon that You don’t need very perfect build….
but I’m most experienced at Ascalonian Catacombs and… Yes I have same build in there as I have i WvW (I don’t play sPvP so that’s not the problem )
I heard that Arah explo is little “hardcore” stuff.
so CoF p1 can be done with melee only, or renged only if You want but that second would be more difficult due to fact there is mostly a little place….
AC is difficult in many things to make at full melee as ranger, but also there are many places when You should go melee because You need dps which You could have big problems to make at range.
Collususs Rubluss is tricky beacuse You have no chance to keep hi t at distance – last time i chcecked there was only one place in whole room what was save from his AoE and that ir rather small area – so You will have to melee him – and stay at one place so 1hsword as melee is bad idea there.
Ghost Eater is somekind of bosses where mathod is more importatnt and staying on him melee range when he have his shield is rather bad idea.
and Howling king would be easiest to make in both ways – only problem is with his minion spawns which You should lure to rings of fire and stunbreaker is “must to” skill.
so whatever You will take one thing at dungeons (on this i played – not sure with rest) for rangers is survi – You don’t have to have massive dps – thing You need is survival in first place (with one exeption at CoF p2 when You need to kill assasins – there dps have majority) – in most situation, You can beat boss with just “survive” and dealing slowly your part of damage (that woul only last much longer) but You have no chance to beat some bosses when being glass canon. (with exeption again to Citadel of Flame with recordive runs are on squad of zerker warriors – but Citadel of Flame is Citadel of Flame and it not counts )

You know cof p1 is so easy dungeon that You don’t need very perfect build….
GL finding a group for that easily, even on gw2lfg….
zerker war/mesmers or gtfo is the mindset most of the time. I’ve joined then been kicked from a lot of parties for that dungeon just for being a ranger.

Nah, sadly I see PVE as a means to an end and do not spend much time in dungeons. =(

Tried the new AC on mine last night… Found out I needed to change my weapons between most fights :\ …oh well, I was expecting a lot worse honestly. TBH… AC’s back to the state it was in during beta: even when everyone stacks, SpideyQueen +all its babies… is once again the toughest boss, lol…. (kinda wish we’d get MORE encounters like this actually, I really miss those massive pulls from FOW/DOA)

Passed the Tzark Burrows DPS check with flying colors though I guess. (Exo Greatsword + a bird /w high phys/crits traiting) which made it so boring I doubt I’ll sign up for any more of them. …plus my Pet was USELESS in all 3 final boss fights there nomatter how much I tried to control it. (and I have PERRRFFFECT MICRRRROO SKEeEeEeLLLsss)
I guess the good news is, just about anything with multiple Crippling/Chilling AoE’s, which Ranger has lots of (and I guess thief should have?)… are really helpful in a couple niche speed runs when the rest of your party is Zerkers who * jussst couldn’t quiiiite stay far enough ahead of the mobs to stay alive on their own * (or Guardians who don’t think they ever need to dodge :p )

I’m not sure what we’re “missing” though when it comes to dungeons yet.
I mean we CAN use whirling D for the spidey babies right?
Maybe we just need more “+Crit to Party” group buff type Traits so we don’t have to keep swapping to Warhorn or so that when we do, they all stack together. ….I’unno. Need to try a COE & Arah next before I’ll know more. <— (last part is sarcasm BTW)

never had that problem – but I know who is responsible for that state on some serwers/whatever.
yeah I had an oportunity to make CoF explo with two such a lame rangers….
anyway I aslo have an experience making AC explo with 4 rangers+ mes party and done it without any problem (howling king path If I remeber well) and later have a chance to make same thing with 4x warriors+ranger.
and in that case we didn’t even manage to go further than spider queen. warriors was dying too fast
I’ve never been kicked for being ranger – only once I was kicked because of lvl (wanted to make AC explo with 46 lvl)
EDIT: ilr for that boss just take devourers instead of melee pet (wait we are talking about colussus rumbluss, or howling king? that first is impossible to keep pet alive – eventually if You have guard shout nad lock Your pet in save spot with it….
we have sspotter trait that gives up to 70(90?) precision to all allies…. but that is crit chance not crit dmg….
as for me we have everything we need at the moment to be good in dungeons.
but many ppl playing ranger need just to learn it.

That’s just the thing, why should ranger be 2 professions in one with 2 separate learning curves without the reward?
My :
- Necro: same build and gear in all parts of the game, I change one utility and thats it.
- Guard: same build and gear for all parts of the game, change to shouts and ready to go
- Engineer: same build and gear in all parts of the game
- Memser; same build and gear in all parts of the game
Ranger: change how I play, utilities change just to keep the pet alive, change gear, change spec

1. Guardian – I’m still lvl’ing him
2. Engineer – he have 12 lvl so he doesn’t count
3. thief- only loggin on her when I can boost jewelry craft (I have materials for this)
4. Ranger – one build, no specs switch since I found my way, with eq I have only many weaps on different occasions and two sets of armor – power version and condition version. utilities are mostly something like SoW, SoH some stun breaker and I’m running with same build at every type of game PvE, dungs, wvw – all the same build

How many hours did you have logged in GW1 again?? Eq is NOT the same thing.
I main my ranger for Dungeons only (not fractal, because there a lot of jumping part where pets a totally useless since “guard” nerf).
I usually run a 0-20-5-15-30 with cleric stuff (wanna try apothicary later, I think it will give me more damage output). I’ve done all dungeons path with this build and it was, by far, my easiest experience in dungeons. Even against Simin, we passed it with 2 dps and my cat, while I was throwing tears. I know it’s counter intuitive but for dungeon i sacrifice some survavibility to pet’s damage and it end up to be pretty effective.

in gw1 that was soooo many hours of good fun
in gw2 – never checked – I’ll tell You tomorrow,
I used to call it eq, but to be clear:
I mean all the stuff from gear that I’m actually wearing or I have in backpack to possibility of changing – so I have my condi version of armor and power version,
about all the jewelry I have only one set – I don’t need more.
about weapons, I have offensive and defensive wersion od Greatswords, longbows, shortbows also I have two axe’s dagger(same knot of justice) warhorn and sword.
and that’s all – there was a times that I was undecided on which traits would be best for me but now I’m sure that this one are “mine” traits – so whatever is on the problem I don’t really need changing it – differences between PvE or WvW (I’m not playing sPvP not tPvP) I actually something like, that in PvE/dungeons Mobs used to forgive much more than enemy invaders on WvW – but ofc. my experience in dungeons may not be complete because as for now I’ve only managed to have many many runs in AC story and explo, CoF explo, and CM story – didn’t have occasion yet to try rest dungeons in either mods.
anyway, so what do You (ilr) mean by “Eq” and “Gear” words – every players define it a little in another way (and not only these – for me for example “build” means traits, weapons, skils on skillbar runes/sigils and stats on armor/jewelry – and lastly I’v heard from guildmate that build is only traits and means nothing because weapons are things that make difference)
