Beastmaster?
Main hand axe and 3 points into nature magic.
The rest is up to you.
Space Marine Z [GLTY]
For all game modes. Top concerns is: keep pet alive, enable pet to deal damage (soft cc + hard cc) and stay alive yourself.
I’m currently running a bird as my main pet since if they managed to hit they hit hard.
My base build so far is 6 beastmastery and 2 skirmishing. guess rest has to be nature magic then?

this setup is more effective, in most cases, then 6 points into BM.

Petmaster-Version Nr.1
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAnY8fjMq0xaFLusQ1aADhiVA8+Yb2c29O8CX9FT0UF-TJhHwAPLDA4hAE4MAAa/BA
Description/Function
- making damagepressure with condition (ranger) and directdamage (raven).
- many evades/ higher evaderegeneration because of long Vigorduration for a good
survivability (with skills, petswap, etc.)
- meanwhile you are dodging both, the pet and the conditions, putting pressure on
the enemy.
- petswap serves to hit with all conditions after immobilizing the enemy
- especially the dog is important to land a hit, because he use his knockbackskill right
after he got swapped. His damage will not reach the raven, but ist acceptable.
- savestomp with signet of the wild and blindstomp with f2 skill from raven
- entangle in combination with the rune of krait helps to slowdown an enemy-ress
- utilityskills are used to attacking the enemy, but also to remove conditions
Petmaster Version Nr.2
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAnY8fjEq0xaFLusQ1aAMhqdCssBw7ZIVrYXXwFT0UF-TJhHwAPLDA4hAE4MAAa/BA
Description/Function:
(similiar to first build, so i only explain the changes)
- only passive conditionremove
- more protection by dodging for more survivability against direct damage
- higher evaderegeneration (25% with trait+ 100% with Vigor)
- stronger heal, because regeneration, signet and directheal stack better togther
- decrease of petdmg, increase of the rangerconditiondmg otherwise
- short cd for most of the utilityskills,
- better use of the eliteskill in combination with the rune because of the short cd
About your role in conquest-tpvp with both builds
- Sidepointholder
- high mobility, if you can use the second sword skill well, so roaming could be possible
with some experience
- very good in 1v1 and 2v2
- not perfect for large teamfights because you cannot serve your team
with many aoe`s and cc`s
- you are a good against many pointholderbuilds
(for example: bunkerguardian, turret- engi and with some experience also cele- ele)
- you are countered by heavy spikedmgbuilds, especially when it comes to 1v2
Sorry if something is formulated incomprehensible. I ’m not a native speaker. Hopefully i could help at least a bit.

Very True
From what I learned and experienced, Beast Master is not efficient enough for the point holding.
It lacks mechanics that other builds offer, like permanent Regen, or more Condition damage, or passive Condi Clear … And all in all – the only useful trait in BM is the Vigor from the pet. Others are not really worth the investment.
But that buff can be achieved even through other trait lines.
One way or another – BM Ranger does not really feel like competitive, since most important part of the pet is not the damage. But the “SotR” or CC… That is available to all lines.
What I found kind of interesting, though, was this build.

I came across it the other day, and it actually earned my focus. What it offers is a good burst, better sustain, and very interesting utility.
I haven’t really played it much, yet. But I’ll definitely consider giving it a try.
I’ve messed around with deep BM builds before mostly with double birds as in that video. It never felt it had much of a place outside of dueling though.

It actually highlights how bad a state the class mechanic is in.

I’d rather say how bad a state most of the pets are in.
Sure, the pathfinding can be improved a lot, but most pets have no real purpose, they just are.
Two canines give the ranger a lot of CC, while spiders can screw people up with super long immobilisations. Other pets are less controllable and less reliable…
If you haven’t tried an immobilisation build, do it. Equip the 2 spiders with paralyzing venom, muddy terrain and entangle, condi bomb your target with all your conditions, except immobilisation. Then use F2, wait for immob, use muddy terrain, wait for another immob from the same spider, switch pet, use f2, use entangle, wait for second immob from spider.
Alright guys thanks for all the comments but here’s my final setup!
With this you can pull of some great combos making use of Zephyr’s Speed. Favorite one so far wolf f2, entangle, petswap bird f2 while casting signet of the wild, use GS 5 or SB 5 followed by GS 2 or SB 2. If possible I also always try to make sure I have a weaponswap ready for when I go for bird so it gets fury via “Fortifying Bond”. Can’t wait to try this out in WvWvW roaming once I hit lvl 80

Frankly?
… Will get melted by any and every condition based opponent.
And will still struggle against various Power Based opponents, especially guardians and elementalists.
