Beastmaster/Trapper builds?
I used to run a build similar to that, but with 0/20/20/0/30 to get more cond damage and toughness and the off hand mastery, and I loved that build.
I changed when pet damage got lowered and after some tests my drake was still tanky enough w/o the BM trait line, also I was suffering a lot by the lack of cond removal besides the HS, so now I run 0/30/30/10/0.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Also curious, how are Spirits in solo WvW? Assuming something like this, tons of soft cc, extremely tanky with 24k health and nearly 2200 toughness. Plus 1900 condi dmg. I dont really know how not using sharpened edges would affect my damage, but i cant see it being that much. You also have LOTS of protection, and with 30% boon duration I’d even go so far as to say near perma, as long as you dodge and stuff.
Alternatively, if i took 30 out of nature magic into Beastmastery, how would that play out? Is there such thing as a power Beastmastery build?
Don’t under estimate the power of shortbow in a condition build. Axe+dagger is a wonderful choice but you need to be aware to get bleeds in you need to be pretty close to your target and and if they block or evade axe 2 your pretty much screwed. Dagger applys 3 bleeds but this can also be easily evaded. Shortbow can easily put 10-15 stacks down very easily with the right traits, sigil, and armor(depending on what kind of opponent your faces and his skill level it will be more difficult). Also its bleeds come from a source that has no cooldown so you can always keep pressuring your opponent. Shortbow is also a safer weapon to use since you have ability to kite your oppent unlike axe where you bascily want to be in melee range to maximize your bleeds stack with axe 2. Shortbow is a great weapon against the now highly demanded CC warrior. Traps also give you the ability to kite them with ez.
Oh and never underestimate the shortbow 5 it can save your life and it can mean your opponent dying or surviving because you just interrupted his heal.
Also you might want to reconsider your pets felines and drakes just aren’t that great for pvp. Pets like spiders and canines are much better. Wolf is always a must for pvp its f2 ability fear has so much utility and its cripple and knockdown can help you score your axe 2, dagger 5 or if you decide to use shortbow to give you more opportunity to better position yourself.
I hope this post helps you out. Also i don’t think trap/beastmaster build is the best thing to use since you can’t get into the wilderness survival line to pick empathic bond. I would just suggest going with either beastmaster or trap to have a better balance.
But wvw has a lot of different builds being used so it will probably be effective against most players that aren’t using spvp builds.

I recently changed to a condition trap build that focus’s on being mobile and using 2 traps and Sword with a condition offhand. I use Long Bow for zergs and if I have some time before my taget reached me (don’t chase if you don’t have to)
I’m still in negotiation for a 3rd Utility skill, I decided not to run 3 traps. I’m using the Rampage as 1 Elite and have Heal as One which heals me for 8k.
And I can honestly say I have never had so much fun with a ranger, I can outlast many classes in a 1v1 by just moving alot and healing.
So yes, It’s viable and works.
Also for Pets, PvE/WvW I use the 2 Ravens. Reason for this is they are dealing alot of damage and high crit rate, they give the occasion blind which helps and more importantly they are small. Enemy players look for the big pet, wolf bear etc and it’s harder to spot and keep track of a smaller bird. Something I learned from the Asuran.
For sPvP I run Wolf and Stalker – fear to help allies and myself and Might stack helps alot.

Also for pets I use 2 ravens in PvE and WvW – reason is they are small, harder for the enemy to track and kill. They also have high damage and when traited have even more crit chance. With the very useful blind for sticky situations.
For sPvP I use Wolf and Stalker fear and might stack come into have alot of use.
Reason I don’t use Wolf in WvW anymore is it’s too open, Rangers will know that the F2 skill is still having trouble – in sPvP it’s more closer quater combat so I fidn the skill lag doesn’t play a huge negative effect
Build you linked shoudn’t work very well. You have no way to soak damage. If you get caught in axe / dagger, you’re pretty much dead. And since most of you’re skills are close range (traps, axe 2, sword), it’s going to be very risky and you need to have good support behind your back. Anyway, I’d suggest you to choose 1 route – either beastmaster and go signets or traps and commit to that.
Here’s my trap build if interested:

Any thoughts on the second link i posted? Seems like a very tanky condi build. Unless spirits arent really that great for solo WvW. Bonfire will do 50k dmg if they stay in it, which probably won’t happen much, but if you use the spider stun and your cripple/chills at the right times you could probably keep them in there awhile.
I know shortbow can be good for stacking bleeds, but my main problem with it is i can either use torch or dagger, not both.
