Hello all!

I am thinking of crafting ascend gear for my ranger but I am a bit confused on whether I should forge berserker gear or assassin gear. Please suggest me which set of gear will be better in terms of PVE. Please don’t ask me to craft both set as I have limited resources.

Please do note that I DO NOT PARTICIPATE in dungeon/fractal. I only do open world PVE and WvW with my ranger.

I believe zerker gives better “overall dps” in a majority of situations, but personally I think assassin’s is more fun (crits for daaays)

Why are you making ascended armor if you’re not going to do fractals? Any way, the most optimal is to mix the 2, and the exact mix depends… Warrior with banners/EA, what food you use, what runes and sigils you use, etc. The differences will be in the range of max 2% difference (most like less than 1%). Going full berserk is a negligible loss and is beneficial for world bosses (as it maximises your power).

Berserker. Most dps on average.

Also remember that some objects/bosses can’t be crit, so you need raw power for that.

Spotter raises your crit chance significantly so assassins wouldnt have as much of an advantage over zerker.

In terms of having most potential, you should go with berserker with ranger runes stacking bloodlust(if you ever decide to use a stacking weapon).

From my calculations with 200% crit damage berserker is slightly (almost no difference) better damage wise even when considering the fire and air sigill which profit from higher crit chance.
While the damage difference is really not high I chose berserker because power also helps with damaging structures and other objects which cannot be critical hit.
So in my opinion berserker is slightly better than assassin.
If a crit damage of 230% is even possible I’m not sure if assassins would slightly outdamage power. It might be possible but the difference would probably be really small.

Ascended armor is a really strange choice if you’re not going to do dungeons, fractals, or WvW with it. But I believe berserker’s is insignificantly more damage.
