Best build/role for tournament pvp?

Go condi bunker (i.e. spirit ranger) and protect close point
Most condition bunker builds are viable for spvp and tpvp. You need to choose your role first because rangers fit three different roles, which are point defender, roaming point defender and strictly roamer.
For point defender there are many variations to the build. You can go with spirits for bunkering a point. In 1 vs 1 you have a good chance to win, but against skilled players you can still die if you’re alone, so this build is very effective knowing your team will roam to back you up.
For point bunkering as well, you can go heavy damage with conditions and a very dodgy setup with either a) consistent condition clearing or b) high rejuvenating power. Both are quite optimal in situations where you expect 1 vs 1 and 1 vs 2, however you’re restricted from supporting roles as you’re all damage and personal survival. Your effectiveness will depend on your skill for the previous roles.
The third role will be roamer. For this role, the versions of what you can use are quite versatile, they’re all tweaks to the existing heavy condition bunker, spirit bunker, condi damage – rejuvenation bunker, or even a power build. For this role you want to optimize survival by not getting stuck in fights, always providing quick help and moving onto defend a point in most need of you. I believe the best setup for this as a ranger is spirits / high condi damage hybrid.
Now for the builds specifically I suggest you look into all the combinations you can make for heavy condition survivalist based on 2/0/6/6/0, heavy condition spirits based on 2/0/6/6/0, condition damage and rejuvenation based on 0/0/6/6/2 (all of the previous builds you can use rune of the undead as a place to start experimenting). Last but not least max bleed damage based on 2/2/4/6/0 with krait runes. Weapons will depend on you personally as well as skills, just take a little while to experiment with everything and if you want more info just ask I’ll reply.
Good luck!

I’m struggling to make/find a good build for ranger in tpvp. I guess maybe I’m confused on what role I’m supposed to be playing.
What builds are you guys having success with in tpvp, and what roles do they fill?
Rangers fill Home Point Defender, Far Point Assaulter, and Roamer extremely well.
If you’re a Home Point Defender you’ll want to be fairly tanky, be able to win most, preferably all, 1v1s, and be able to at least last a while against a 1v2. Both Trap Ranger (standard x/6/6/x/x) and BM bunker (standard x/x/6/x/6) fill this role extremely well, spirit ranger and celestial ranger also fill it decently, but they’re not the most efficient builds for it and normally only do so during the fight when your team needs you to, IE: you swap roles in the fight.
For far point Assaulter and roamer you need to be more mobile so having Traveler Runes, Sig of the Hunt, a GS, and/or utilizing Sword #2 efficiently are required. For far point Assaulter your job is go to far point and decap/cap it. So either run a mobile 1v1 build, or something like LB/GS and just forcibly throw them off the point sorta like a decap engi does. There’s no set build for either of those, and variations of both trapper and BM bunker CAN do it, but you’d probably have better options.
Roamers on the other hand are what I play and there’s a great many flavors of it. You can either 1) be a roaming support which Spirit Rangers, my support build, and a few others can do, they’re less common but equally effective for team comps that rely on team fights or 2/3vXs since it allows your to get to where you need to support very efficiently. This type of roamer isn’t normally able to 1v1 or take guarded objectives, but they can normally bunker down somewhere and depending on weapons set up could possibly decap a guarded point.
2) Damage Roamer, this is NORMALLY done with a LB build that goes point to point and snipes people. This type or roamer is very efficient at 1v1s, taking secondaries, and turning the tides of team fights. However this type of BUILD is one of the hardest to play correctly, so it’ll take practice.
3) Celestial Roamers, these builds are essentially a jack of all trades, they can 1v1 pretty easily and normally take abilities like QZ and RaO which can be used both offensively and defensively. This allows them to fill any niche the team may need at the moment whether it be roaming, bunkering, supporting etc. They can roam, but due to how the build works they shouldn’t be roaming 100% and if they are your team should have you swap your build or adjust your strat.
Hope this helps!!

Here are some build for you buddy:
1. Defender/Roamer (solo build)
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAR8IjEq0yaFLctGwSoafABQB8+UT1c2V0exPp9A-TJRIwAAeCAGLDUa/BCXEAA
Anti everything with this build, you can pick up SoH or SoR, your preference(i personally run SoH for mobility). Takes practice to master your skills will save you, but with any profession I had no problem 1v1 or even 2v1.
2. Condi/ Regen (my version of it)
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAnY8fjMq0yaFL+rw1aAMhq9A0pBw7RNVrZXN7B/q9A-TJBIwANLDA4kAU4JAwa/BA
I like to roam at times, depending on situations. You can of course change the rune to what you see fit and play style.
3. Standard Spirit Ranger
I dont really run this much so I cant comment enough, but Ive seen players run carrion or rabid on this build for amulet really depends on you. But imo never defend a cap point with this build by your self, you’re much more valuable helping your allies decap or help defend a point. Spirits are meant to be shared imo.
Then there’s your wild card beta build that the meta, obviously, do not accept but are actually very good imo:

Im sure there are other builds out there for your play style, but these are the ones I run, hope it helps.
