One bleed is one bleed, and potentially a lot of damage. Look at the ranger bug list and you can easily find 5 more problematic bugs and issues of the ranger. Skim the other ranger posts and you can just as easily find 15 other (fictitious) issues with the ranger.
Personally i think the problem with the ranger is the (bug) pet condition damage.
All they need is openness and acknowledging that it IS a bug and it IS being fixed, not saying BRB I’m gonna test it on live NOW and then nothing for 3-4 days..

Indeed. There’s countless legitimate concerns that need to be addressed so tensions and wariness can be alleviated.
I don’t see any reason not to believe that they were fixing an animation issue and I think all this hysteria on the SB nerf thread is incredibly anti productive and shows the community in a very poor light.
Jon Peters point was that spamming the 1 key doesn’t lead to the most nuanced gameplay, which is reasonable I think. It’s just a pity that this alteration wasn’t combined with an offsetting fix and some attention to other issues to sugar the pill a bit.
From my own POV I’m more interested in survivability than damage, since you can’t do a lot of damage if you are dead and rangers have some issues with disabling conditions & speed compared to other classes I play (most of them). The other thing that makes rangers less fun to play than they could be for a skirmishing play style is the lack of a decent melee weapon swap or reason for staying in melee range – since bows are essentially single target weapons, it would seem to make sense to have some better AOE capabilities at melee range.
As to pets – they’re going to take some time to fix, I guess.

Took a couple of days to get debugging in on this. It is in fact a 40ms difference which equates to about 7% less damage when spamming 1. We made this change because it was creating some animation bugs to leave it where it was. It was also encouraging just spamming 1 which isn’t the most fun gameplay. If our data shows shortly that shortbow is now not effective we can certainly address that, but would do so by improving other skills on that weapon rather than by reintroducing the spam on 1 and the bugs that it was creating.
