Boost greatsword base damage, please.
Because it has an evade in it. It is insanely defensive, GS is a defensive weapon on all but 1 skill.

Yeah but it’s not an on demand evade. I don’t feel like that really justifies the low damage anymore, not with the power creep that has been added to the game.

I disagree. I view it as a utility weapon with a multitude of functions, including burst damage. Think of it like the guardian hammer. They’re both varied, but not entirely defensive.
To be honest, I think a fair change to help out the DPS of greatsword would be to reduce the cast time of the third skill in the autoattack chain to 1/2s. Not only that, but it would put an end to the abuse of that skill being chained in succession, allowing for ridiculous evasion uptimes.
Other than that, the damage on the auto should probably be left where it is, considering the evade. I do however think hilt bash needs an update. It’s too easy to miss or have your opponent strafe away.
Attack 2 on GS is strong, so AA has to be lower to compensate. Aa also cleave.
Sword AA is hard to manage, so it’s higher. Aa don’t cleave on 3 attacks, and the cleaving one only hit 3 target.
I think GS is ok, especially compared to rangers’ other weapons (except LB, but, well, LB has it own downside).
So the Scrapper hammer is a complete clone of our greatsword, but the damage, defense and finishers (reliability and fluidity are also important), just makes Ranger GS pale in comparison.

kitten . I just checked and your right. Same cast time, same cleave amount, but base damage is higher by 100 on almost each chain (unless wiki lies). Not only does it stack might, it also grants vulnerability on hit.
And the other hammer skills provide just as much utility if not more so than GS. When you put it that way, wow. The difference is huge.
most of ranger weapons are horribly clunky, ineffective and outdated. without revamps to them, we’re gonna be in a rough spot come launch
Scrapper Hammer is just absurdly good, it has vastly better power scaling than GS.
I think rather than increase the damage on the AA, they should increase the speed. Slash and Slice have 1/2s activation times, I would just shave those down to 1/4s and see how it goes 1st. Adding a little something on the 1st two skills would be nice too, like vulnerability, cripple, might, something.
- All GS skills need an increase to the power scaling.
- Maul needs its cast time shaved to 1/2s and its bear animation started 1/4s after skill activation and add a blast finisher.
- Counterattack needs its kick separated from the block and made optional after any successful block.
- Hilt Bash needs its animation changed so it can be used on the move and correct the range. Make it a 450 range leap.

I’m not sure adding moar dmg to aa is right for gs.

Totally agree. I said it before when the Reaper was announced and revealed. They thematically made their GS attacks slow than the usual GS moves (especially with the auto attack) to fit the hard-hitting monster type.
Since (so far) Rangers are the only medium armor class that can wield a GS and has a skirmishing theme about it, shaving down cast times for a some of the moves (AA, Maul, and the countering portion of Counterattack specifically) could be a more beneficial adjustment than a straight damage buff.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Counterattack needs its kick separated from the block and made optional after any successful block.
no it doesnt. this is very newbie unfriendly, especially for an attack that already has a secondary click.

What? How? If they don’t trigger the kick they will just block attacks. That is arguably a lot easier for new players to handle.
The current counterattack just works, something that doesn’t Just Work is problematic, especially as stated given that the skill already has a secondary mode.

+1 don’t make the skill convoluted by making it a 3 part. Besides, its a sword not a shield.
It just needs to be a straight up block (channeled while moving) with an optional pbaoe knockdown available during the channel, perhaps a spin move. call it the Tiger’s Tail. Super thematic, responsive, intuitive. Remove the sword throw, it’s silly and a copy of the warrior’s skill except worse.
I really like the theme of our AA. I would go both ways, slightly increase damage and slightly increase speed to give us more evasion while spamming AA. It just feels so right doing it with quickness.
I agree on hilt bash being a short leap, kinda like eviscerate.
Maul could use a very slight animation speed increase. And I feel swoop is fine, but it should act like Astral Grace while leaping over hills/inclines….instead of making us stuck for a split second which has gotten me killed many times.

I would be shocked if scrapper isn’t nerfed slightly upon launch. GS is in a completely acceptable spot and some of the new espec stuff is clearly OP.
On the other hand: Anet.

Yeah, that is a better idea.

Is it OP or balanced for HoT raids?
I think maul should get damage increase to be in line with other attacks in the 2 slot. Further more they should fix 4 to be block and upon block have ability to activate a knockback. 5 feels very wonky it should stun no matter what.

I dunno. I’ve given up guessing at this point. I made Grouch rage quite a Twitch stream last night because I asked him why there was 1 ranger out of like 30 tournament teams across NA and EU. He thought “but there is 1 ranger” is the answer. I just don’t even know anymore.

I would have walked away too. It’s not an inappropriate question, its an impossible to answer question politically.

Hilt Bash is one of the longest cast time interrupt skill (most are 1/4, this one 1/2..), and the range is actually SHORTER than stated range. This definitely need a patch.
