Bow Envy
Sadly our bows got overlooked a long time ago. Alright, they are getting some attention which is great, but we need bow traits to be combined and some new ones added. As of right now as many others have stated for Longbow to be effective we need 50 trait points. That leaves 20 for everything else, a measly 20.
Ranger needs these abilities again;

I know with Gw2’s system these couldn’t work as skills necessarily, but having the said effects as traits would be brilliant. Burning arrow and Melandru’s shot as trait %’s could work great (unless they turn into Dhuumfire). Also, out of context but we need more condi cleanse. I’d throw away spirits or shouts or both to have a working version of this.

Thank you so much! Gw2 Dev’s NEED to look back at the GW ranger abilities. “Rangers can adapt to any situation.”, then let us do this.

CAN I GET AMEN!!!!!
I actually really like our SB. I mean the theif one is cool and who wouldnt want cluster bomb, but I wouldnt swap bows even if I could.

Yeah, longbow and shortbow are pretty dry as far as gameplay goes. But: you can 1v1 a player and win with just a ranger bow. While warriors and thieves have better bows for zerg fights, they really cant pull that off as easily.

You obviously haven’t fought a longhammer Warrior with 14 might stacks

You obviously missed the part where i said just a bow. That warrior wont have a chance if he’s just using the bow. For warriors, ranged weapons are just compliments for melee weapons. Rangers can use them as stand alone weapons and still be viable.

Or, if they cant do it, make traps kinda like mesmer mantra, and let us set multiple weaker trap of the same kind, and get a longer CD on the overall skill. Would be so epic to have to “ready” traps, just to be able to place 3-4 fire traps.

Rangers after 50 patches.

I actually also really love our shortbow at the moment, especially for its low skill cooldowns and kiting abilities. Longbow is where the problem lies in my opinion, no one cares about barrage, you drop it on a zerg and maybe 2 uplevels move. I’d really love a burning arrows trait, or barbed arrows etc etc.

The Ranger bows are pretty meh, I agree.
Not only in functionality, but also in flavor. You look at something like Greatsword or even Harpoon Gun, and you see interesting nature-inspired visuals and attacks. Something that seems distinctly Ranger-esque. Those weapons would not fit on any other profession.
Longbow and Shortbow, though? Absolutely none of that. Completely basic, boring, standard abilities that could easily belong to any other class. Zero inspiration, zero nature theme, nothing.
Axe suffers from that too, but at least Axe has some distinction from being a thrown weapon. Still not particularly Ranger-themed, but at least its unique in itself.

Yeah, preparations would be the perfect solution to making the ranger more powerful with the bow than other classes, without overpowering bows over melee weapons. Instead of giving the weapon a flat damage increase, you increase the flexibility of the weapon. When I started playing GW2, I was really surprised that things like poison volley were hard-coded into the bow skills.
It would also get me to start actively switching skills on my ranger before each fight, instead of always running with the same 4-5 skills because the others are so meh.
