As far as I know, during the ranger segment of an interview with the devs (State of the Game, hosted by GW2guru) they mentioned a buff to Maul.

Whether that’s the entirety of the changes nobody really knows. I think you can expect the changes to be in the next patch though, along with all the specific details. (Due around the 26th of March, I think?)

Yea but I am kinda concerned, if they are going just to buff maul, still will be underpowered. They need to make the chain faster and with more dps, and change some other skills…

My opinion is, based on the history of ranger updates, that Greatsword’s buff will be another small one that will not increase the weapon’s damage significantly enough to warrant a legendary. Just IMO though , who knows :P

- Besides damage though, you can at least get a good block and daze out of it, along with a leap to get out of bad situations for a WvW bunker.

A GS? Why not go for one of the two Legendaries Rangers are known to be OP with?:

But yeah, swiftpaw’s probably right. Even if we get a decent buff for the GS, we’ll probably get nerfed somewhere else so that it evens out. -_- Still, the GS is great as a utility/roaming weapon, so it can always be useful, if not for damage.

I’ve been casually working my way towards sunrise on my ranger from before GS was even used (obviously after the beta but post launch). Honestly, it was never a weak weapon, many rangers just don’t understand it more potent as a defensive and burst weapon. It doesn’t provide the sustained dps that the other weapons do in the current state, but it wasn’t ever terrible as many rangers would have had you believe. It has begun picking up considerable usage lately as well.

Off topic: Back when it was widely considered worthless, I used to rock the greatsword ranger in dungeons and get praised by nearly every group. I was constantly asked how I managed to stay alive and what my build was. To everyone’s surprise, I’m fairly close to a glass cannon, but the defensive capabilities of the gs ranger are potent enough to make up for this weakness to a large extent.

So, go for it.

Am I the only person that finds it amusing debating whether to use a cosmetic item or not?
What it really comes down to is whether you like the look of the weapon on your character. For starters, the legendary will last forever and the current state of play with GS skills on any class is not static so I don’t think you should base your decision on how overpowered/underpowered the GS skills are currently.
Good luck on getting it though.

Well even though weapon skills are not static, it can be argued that legendaries are not static as well. I would think that the main reason you want to use a legendary is that you like using the (current?) weapon skills and you use it often. Hardly worth it if you hardly use dagger and craft an incinerator to walk around LA with right? O.o

We are Blessed with New Icons from the previous patch and you wanna equip a Legendary GS on your Ranger for the upcoming patch???

Just saw a Charr ranger with Sunrise in CoE a few days ago, and it looks awesome on him, I would say definitely worth it if that’s your play style even without the buff. I myself is working toward Volcanus right now, just 280 more molten lodestones to go.

Hold off until you see the changes. Honestly, if you have a guardian or warrior, I seriously doubt anything they do to the ranger GS will make it competitive with their weapons, let alone better. Regardless of what happens in the near future, you’re probably better off giving the sword to a warrior.

I tried to use war and guard., and…I dont know, guard is definitely not my thing…Warrior I didnt like much too.
And, I plan to do a glass canon build, and using dusk I see that I can survive for long…And in a big zerg in wvw wont make much difference the dmg I do(getting commander too)…so who knows…I just think that Anet dont care at all for rangers.
