((sPvP btw)) Im not saying they are OP, dont get me wrong, it is just that, as an ele with plenty of toughness to go about, some points into defense, so I wasnt squishy, at all.

I was hacking at the ranger, 1.2k crits with valkyrie gear, so he wasnt squishy either, Im guessing heavy into toughness, I was barely able to scratching him, which is ok i guess, I mean, if you are a bunker you should at least do that much, but the issue I was having was the pet, each time hitting me easily 1.5-2k with each attack, all this while the ranger himself was doing 500 a piece with each auto attack with short bow (i used magnetic aura which reflects all projectiles and his own hits were hitting him for about the same)

Overall I found it a bit hilarious (not) that my burn did absolotely nothing to their almost perma healing all this while an own and wolf were hacking away at my health 2k per second. Is this working as intended? Because Im seeing an awful lot of these and Im starting to think that they are borderline as annoying as D/D ele (yes, I know im an ele myself, but even I hate D/D bunker eles)

I know this might be the wrong forum to post this because only ranger players (mostly) come here so its bound to be VERY biased placed, but unfortunately everytime you post something on General topics it gets moved, apparently this stuff isnt general enough…. anyways, solutions? working as intended? OP?

It’s working as intended. Pets are fairly easy to kite. Also, MAYBE it was a power build, but all of the BM builds posted are with condition damage and nowhere near autoattacking for 500.
Actually, for a shortbow, you would need around 3200-3300 attack to be in that range, so that wouldn’t technically be a bunker because the healing power and toughness is going to sacrificed a bit to reach that substantial power range.

Also, if it was a healing heavy build, you don’t have access to poison, which is basically a counter to bunkers because it heavily hurts builds that rely on healing.

Lastly, it shouldn’t be posted in a general topic area, nor should it be posted here if you wanted to avoid bias. It should have been posted in the Structured Player vs Player area, right above WvW.

Every class in the game has another class the don’t inherently perform as well against, just like they have a class they perform better against. So no, the build isn’t OP, but maybe the debate should be whether limiting tools used to counter certain setups to certain classes is a design flaw/working as intended.

The difference between that bunker ranger and a bunker ele is that the ele can disengage much more easily and withstand focus fire better via cantrips.

The ele also has significantly more on demand condition clear and CC. The ranger, if specced for wilderness survival, gets 1 cure every 10 secs, if he takes signet of renewal it’s 2 condition clears every 10 secs randomly. You could argue healing spring, but you don’t always have the luxury standing in a spot, especially when getting zerged.

As for cc, the ranger has wolf fear with a 2 sec cast time and buggy autocancels on pet, and the random wolf knockdown unless he switches him in. Much crappier cc than the ele who can use it immediately on demand, and can bring aoe chill as well as cripple.

As the battle becomes larger, the bunker ranger becomes less effective, because the pet is very fragile to cleaving. More importantly, the bunker ranger does not cleave anywhere as well as an ele. As an ele pretty much everything you do outside earth auto cleaves. The bunker ranger with shortbow does not cleave, and if he switches to sword/torch or sword/dagger, his damage is garbage since mainhand sword is a power weapon and most bunker rangers run conditions.

You’re essentially complaining about a build whose only good use is dueling and somewhat debunkering (far less effectively since it takes longer than a necro or engi would debunker).

To OP:
1) He is hitting you hard is because You are squishy
Reason: valkyrie armor, 1.2k crt is low dmg to you.
2)His dmg isn’t high, 500 dmg isn’t much.
3)Pet can hit hard if buff by skill. Basically you are owned by someone who macro the pet.
Example:Signet of the Hunt , Signet of the Wild, increase pet dmg.
Rampage As One, increase pet might ,fury etc
Master’s Bond-Your pet has a bond with you that increases its attributes each time you kill a foe. stack 25 times
Note: If you think 2k crt /burst is OP, you should fight a heal trait thief in WvW. They crt higher , heal themselves more and you can’t kite them.
4)MOST IMPORTANTLY, you are using STAFF. A STAFF elementialist is bad against anyone. A squishy staff elementialist is terrible except in WvW zerg /castle fight.

It is also very easy to kite the pet, cause they are a bit slow.. so it can be used to your advantage.

I was really annoyed with my pet yesterday in couple 1v1 situations.. It just refused to attack my target, instead it was basically going around in circles. Unfortunately it isn’t very uncommon for ranger pets behavior.

Any ranger can practically be beaten the same way. First priority should be disabling the pet through soft cc. Don’t waste your hard cc (stuns, immobilize, fear, knockdown, etc) on the pet as they come back too quickly. Give the pet a nice 5s cripple or chill and kite it. Rangers will tell you the pet is easily kited without any cc, but that is plain wrong with the most common pet type (canine) as they hit very reliably even without speed buffs. Once you slow the pet, keep an eye out for it getting too close and reapply cc and focus the ranger. Should be an easy fight but watch for pet swap and F2. All rangers need their pet to some extent (and any who say they don’t are bad rangers).

Now, I will counter my own statements with what I would do if you try this to me. First, I’ll check how long the condition is and try and kite you around my pet so it can still land blows while placing traps to cc you. If you damage my pet and place a lot of conditions on it, I will swap pets and try to combo a knockdown&F2 for max cc on you to drop all my traps and quite literally blow you up (Don’t underestimate burn/poison/bleeds on you at the same time! Every second you don’t get rid of them you will be taking damage in the thousands from a condi spec ranger.). Be on the lookout for pet swaps! If a ranger swaps a pet, chances are he/she is looking to burst as the pet comes out fresh (unless they already used that pet in which case it can still have some cooldowns). A common strategy I use it to combo wolf knockdown+fear and blow the enemy up with conditions. If they fail to cleanse in those 4.5s they will be hit for over 6k damage easily from all the burns, poison, and bleeds I will apply not to mention any physical damage. If I think you are going to get away or have too much health after the combo, I will drop an entangle at the end of the fear and finish the fight. Am I saying this works every time? No, but I have found even the most experienced players have a hard time clearing chain cc, especially when they have multiple long duration damaging conditions on them. My build is all about spamming a variety of conditions to keep cleansing weak and my foe locked in place, so bringing little to no condi removal in a fight against a ranger to me is just suicide.
