Guild Wars 2

So I am thinking of starting a ranger and wondering a few things. I play a guardian which i love and running with the zerg is fine but my computer isnt the greatest and zergs get old after a while. I am wondering if ranger could be useful going PVT maybe BM Bunker for some scouting and maybe 1v1 once in a while?

I am used to no range on my guardian so i wouldn’t be opposed to a melee build say GS/ Sword&Dagger. What are you guys thoughts on this? I have searched the forum a bit but wondering if there’s a build that would be more suited to a melee PVT soldier build.

Rangers can certainly be good scouts. Greatsword Swoop, Sig of the Hunt, Warhorn, RAO. Plenty of mobility. BM Bunker, especially with high healing power, is quite useful in small skirmishes, though they generally don’t pack much damage and will be slow to kill.

Yes, rangers can have swiftness up 100% of the time with just their warhorn and their greatsword swoop move is awesome for moving around.

If you just want to run around and stay alive, yeah pvt is good for that. But I don’t think you’ll kill a lot with that should you come across small roaming groups. I’d go with carrion/rabid and a condi build. You can also try the roaming regen ranger build, seems pretty solid.

Bunker with Healing power is hard to kill in skirmishes, but from my experience doesn’t do a lot of damage (sometimes i’m in a situation where the ennemy cannot kill me and i can’t kill the ennemy) especially with pets having hard time to hit moving target (close ranged pets at least). Maybe sword auto-attack will help or condition damage.

Greatword is really good for movement/escape (dat block skill)

Condi build totally wrecks in roaming. Many a player underestimate how painful those bleed, poison, and burning stacks can be. And when they try to flee, the SB’s bleed and cripple will down them 90% of the time.

Am I the only one that considered GS#4 for dealing damage? It doesn’t hit as hard as maul, but still has good damage. Gotta test that (prolly to find out its useless) later.

You can Youtube Turkish Krul and check out some of my footage roaming WvW as a Ranger. With the right build, I find that Rangers are quite good at it.

You could try the bunker BM build. Most of your DPS will come from the pet, but you get to apply lots of conditions and will generally be very tanky. It’s garbage in larger fights, but in a roaming capacity it’s pretty decent.

Regen monster ranger with fully traited cat pets, S/D // GS is great for roaming and small fights… People usually ignore the pet… BIG mistake.

I agree ranger (aside from thief) is probably one of the best roaming classes for wvw, great swiftness boosts, gs is amazing with swoop, and the ranger is great for 1v1 skirmishes.

I like to 5 man team in WvW and I am always the scout for the team, my ranger is such a good roamer and speccing my toughness build with strong condition damage and above average power. Roaming fits my play style. I like taking points and playing mind games with the enemy commanders by leading their entire army to stop a 5 man team…. or even a single roaming ranger from ninja-taking a keep, which gives our commanders time to stomp on another location. I am sure that all of us wish our rangers could play a bigger part in more than skirmishing, but so far I like it.

That’s what I used to do before giving up on the class. Thief does it better in my experience.
