Im making a ranger but i love 3 of the races, asura, sylvari and human.
What do your prefer, what do you think looks better?

Asura have a better racial ability, but chances are you’d still use the ones provided to the class as a whole. I don’t like how their toes clip through boots. Not sure there is a pair out there that they don’t. They also have a really cool greatsword animation.

Not a fan of cabbages, but they look alright.

Humans look fine and no real complaints.

I personally prefer the female models because they have a more detailed body shape whereas the males always feel so flat in their armor.

I suggest looking at the thread stickied above to see which you like in the various armors and choose from there. The racial abilities aren’t the biggest of deal.

I’m a Norn so obviously I recommend Norn!

They fit lore wise to be a ranger. Personally I don’t think asura fit as a ranger at all!!!

Norn also have an elite skill that is THE BEST SKILL IN WWW “become snow leopard”. You get invisibility which is an kitten savior in www. I have always managed to get away with it!

I suppose it comes down to what you think looks best but racial abilities should play a small part in your choice, a sylvari binding roots can turn a battle. Check out the wiki for racial traits, check out http://www.gw2armor.com/ to have a look at races/armor choices and try out each race for an hour before deciding on your choice. The beauty of this game is that no race is better than any other, it’s all down to your own personal choice.

I chose a female Sylvari for my Ranger as I felt it to be fitting the theme perfectly.

Go for Sylvari. You can make them look really beautiful and Sylvari fit the theme of “blending in the Nature”.

dont do a sylvari female, they have this really annoying quote “this rose has thorns, and here they are!” which grates on the mind very quickly ^^

Haha, well, I think all of the races have some annoying quote that gets repeated over and over and will annoy you. So, I wouldn’t let them be a determining factor.

I do love the Asura flip-dodges and stuff though.

My ranger is a human, and for the most part the racial abilities are pretty underwhelming. They are useable, but not particularly enticing. I think that goes for most of the racial abilities in the game though. Norn probably have the most “flavor” with their shape-shifting and such.

Really, though, the main differences are simply armor appearances. Each race looks different in the same armor set. So, I’d just browse some photos and find the aesthetics you like.

Grasping Vines is really fun if you play Sylvari.

But I feel like we suffer from 3 slot syndrome quite a bit (even with all the subpar utilities) and since traited SoS and the new SotH are must haves, if you ask me.. you’ll often find yourself being like… do I want to immob on demand or do I want quickness, or what about Sick’ Em? Or do I want to throw my pet up onto walls to harass defenders..? Oh no here comes a DD ele I’d better get an extra 12 seconds of stability.. OR… and so on.

For WvW standing on walls shooting down, you want a tall character, or you could simply get obstructed. I play a sylvari, but sometimes I wish I had picked norn or charr, eventho I picked the tallest sylvari possible. I do quite well shooting down, but I wouldn’t want my character to be any smaller. Take this into account before picking asura for its racial.
