I don’t know why my pet keeps reappearing whenever I enter combat (or take damage from falling), but could we please have this disabled? I want to be able to put away and bring out my bet on MY terms. Currently, we’re FORCED to always have it out whenever we’re in combat.
I agree, but it only bothers me in jumping puzzles.
I also agree, we should be able to stow our pets and choose when they come out. When exploring or doing jumping puzzles it can be a real hassle, and trying to be stealthy and avoid mobs is almost impossible due to how much the pet wanders ahead of me.
The pet is responsible for 50% of your total damage, so fighting without it means you are nerfing yourself. Therefor your pet has to be there when you are fighting, or ells the Ranger is going to seem very weak. It’s as simple as that.
Sorry, but I think you are over-estimating if you think pets do 50% of your damage. They spend a long time doing nothing between attacks, they only have one ability that you can activate, they can only attack one target at a time, and most are melee, so they have to run between targets. If you don’t out-damage your pet then you need to focus on how you are attacking and what abilities you are using.
Do u Guys played Warhammer Online?
I played a White Lion, and the White Lion has a “Skill” named “Loner” that gives
u 25% Dmg if ur Pet is disabled.
I Think that would be a nice Option for everybode who dont! want to fight with his Pet.
If not that, then maybe grant a move speed buff if/when the pet is stowed. That way pet control be more tactical, pulling it out when needed and storing it when you need to gain some distance.
Dunno, just something to think about trying to bounce ideas around to change the static gameplay of our limited pet control, considering are class defining ability IS our pet.

Completely agree with this request. I want control, and the automatic unleashing of a pet is not giving me control. As to Kasama – even if that were the case, I’m aware enough of my surroundings to want to choose when to unleash pets
I think it would be a good option for the ranger to stow the pet in exchange for a selectable passive buff:
F1 – Move speed buff, say +20%
F2 – DPS buff, something like +15% to base damage of any skill
F3 – Team buff, something similar to the spotter trait.
F4 – Reactivate pet.
Put the bar on something like a 20sec cooldown to prevent abuse of the mechanic, but only when a passive has been selected. Stowing/reactivating the pet should have no cooldown until a passive buff is enabled (for jumping puzzles, etc.)
While I know the ranger is built around the pet, there are times where the pet is outright useless such as AoE heavy dungeons. In this case it would be a nice option to give up the utility of the pet and get something back in return.
I’d be happy with a trait that does this even, one that improves the ranger capability by a lot, and completely disables pets/only gives the boost while pet is stowed.
But even without that benefit somewhere, we should be able to stow our pet for good if we choose. It popping up constantly is pretty irritating.
If you stow the pet the ranger’s a poor-man’s fighter, as they should be. You want to run around smacking things with axes/longswords/greatswords without a second thought to your pet? Play a warrior. Seriously, if you hate the pet so much, why are you bothering with a class who’s built around and defining class mechanic is around the pet?
It’s not about hating the pet. It isn’t about wanting to never use a pet. It’s about being able to control the pet. In fact, for me at least, it has nothing to do with combat at all. I like my pets and I like using them in combat. When I’m doing a jumping puzzle, I don’t need my pet. When I’m exploring a city, I don’t need my pet. Having him pop out every time I zone or take 1 point of falling damage just puts him underfoot and makes it harder to do some things I want to do.
I agree with the sentiment. It isn’t that I dislike the idea of having a pet; I just recognize that the AI of a pet will never be sufficient at playing such a large role in pvp.
The range would be so much fun to play without a pet; or at least with the pets importance downplayed (stow for buff’s is a great idea).
I’m not sure how I feel about this idea. AI will always be AI, it’s going to have problems, and I do NOT want this class to end up in a position where all our most powerful and useful specs don’t use the pet, instead trading it for a buff. I love the pet mechanic, and I would HATE to feel like I was deliberately limiting my potential by sticking to it.
It also would encourage the “NO PETS OUT!!” crowd of idiots in dungeons, that we’ve seen posts about. Imagine only being accepted to a dungeon group if you spec no pet.. And that’s not your main spec.
+1 Last night in arah path4 vs. Priestess Lyssa pets were amazing, the bosses attack just kept bouncing around on them for more dmg, not to mention pets vs. sparks on Simin. :-)
+1 to topic, I want Perma Stow!! (Maybe a trait that gives 10-20% dmg when it is stowed would be a bonus)

Agreed. Pets need to become more useful and less of a handicap; buffing us for not using them is a step backwards, not forwards.
In fact, pets do more harm than good at level 70 and above maps. This is especially through at areas where foes roam closely together. Pets will continuously trigger slow motion bug which gets us killed in many situations.
Bug reported but by far, zero response.

Hmm… Isn’t saying “I don’t wan’t a permanent pet stow option because people might tell me how to play” a little hypocritical considering having the option panders to two play styles while not having it forces everyone into one?
Would like to +1 to the idea of a Permanent Stow…
My pet is getting my killed OR getting parties wiped in Twilight Arbor way too often… I am not able to move my pet as long as there is a Volatile Blossom between myself and my pet.. I find myself having to sacrifice my pet completely…
