Let me explain. The changes are good and needed to be applied, however comparing to the other two three classes they seems again weak and insufficient.
The other classes get massive buffs in dps, sustain AND support (expecially the engi, i couldn’t think of a more good for all class than that one) while we are still the pariah of Gw2.
And why would i say that?

Let’s analize the points:

  • They empowered the pets however although that is needed after all the changes in the game is not all that is needed to change with their mechanics. Let put en example: Right now the best pet i can think of is the moa. Why? Because it has what all the pets should have: durability and utility. Moa has F2 skill and the moa healing skill that is not usefull for the ranger (usually the pet is not in range) but for itself and for others. All the pets should have skills like that that make them usefull. For example: why don’t give canines the hability to hit stealthed enemies? not reveal but instead attack while stealthed. So our pet can attack but we can not use targetedor channeled skills (like RF). Cats could have another skill like cast stealth on the ranger, carrions could give toughtness and so on. We could think the pet as choossing a trait, and that would make better sense when we choose our companions.
  • We still lack a source of boons. Almost not sources of conditions outside from the SB or Torch/Dagger. The only source of regen (if traited), fury or might in the warhorn. All our mobility and protection is almost in one offhand skill with 25 secs CD.
  • No source of reveal. Now even the engi has a trait. For being rangers we are quite blind.
  • Still no way to cleanse. We get conditions and the only way to cleanse is to use the traits: the one that cleanse while your pet is alive and in range or the one that use a survival skill to cleanse. And both are Grandmasters. the other three classes has a massive amount of passive cleanses in their traits.
  • It is yet to see the numbers but unless regen applied by the traits is strong (and not like the ones applied now) we will still miss sources of healing.
  • Still no sources of stealth others than the LB and that skill is not good at all. Rangers should be able to use small amounts of it constrained to not to do damage for example to differenciate the uses from the thief. At least as i see them within the lore and game.
  • Still no mobility. We have to waste one utility skill just to get 25% speed, when now even the warrior has that buff when using a melee weapon.
  • the HS spring trap thing is going to be awfull. I don’t think none will use ever unless the other skills are nerfed (bad idea) or the cast/arm time dissapear. For the healing trap concept to work when not thrown there should be more changes.

As i said, if you look at the changes they seem ok but when compared with the rest of the classes they are shown as lacklustre and poor that gives the sense of the Dev team not knowing what to do with the ranger.

As i pointed before:

  • we need some uses for the pets other than only exchangeable weapons. Giving them some kind of permanent passive boon (like traits) will increase their likeness. Right now you just give them more power but still we will no care if they die sooner or later as long as we could cast the F2 skill. Giving moas passive SoW effect, canines attack stealthed, cats SoH passive, carrion SoS passive while they are alive for example will give them some real use other than cast the fury and forget. Not like we are at the top of the food chain like eles or warriors right now.
  • We still need more variety within our weapons skills and traits/skills effects. We still lack mobility or sustain, although the given steps with the new trait lines were adequate.

Warrior has a lot of changes. One trit could give you +500 precision and other +1000 toughtness. I think that is like saying to the ranger: go home you have nothing to do in here

As if we needed greater confirmation that rangers are the ginger step-children of GW2.

I think I’ll be playing a Dragonhunter if I want my longbow fix once the expansion rolls out.

Those armadillos would be a lot cooler if they looked more like real armadillos. mmm armadillos
