Chill/predators onslaught build
Like the topic. While I’m not sure LB is the best route for this build. Vuln is good for a cover condition i guess. Gut says SB when not taking LB traits but who knows.
I took the trap off and went for intimidation training + malicous training. If there is no ICD, my eagle will have perma cripple on them and owl for chill.
Great burst with Sig of wild + sickem. High stealth uptime to evade around and stall till burst back up. Perma cripple to keep the pew pew going.
I like some of your ideas. I have revised the build to be SB, it brings more to the table for duelling I think and also intimidation training is a nice one, so I added that also, removing the trap as you had and using all sigs for some condi removal and invul. because of the SB, I changed to S/D for the extra cripples for predators onslaught and evades too. I changed the leopard to an alpine wolf for the aoe chill/cripple. Assuming we get the cripple sigil, both the dagger and SB would have one. I like the look of this a lot more now.
I think it would be great as part of a small roaming group and is quite reminiscent of the Cripshot Ranger that I so loved in GW1.
I too was looking into a chilling build for my melee ranger but somehow i’m really not convinced.
I do like the idea but they both look like very situational builds, you have nearly no condi removal at all and luck any kind of survival mechanism (vigor/LR) and have only one stunbreaker on a fairly long CD…
As melee i worked out something like this:

with lighting reflexes and wilderness survival. it does lose some of the major points of making a perma chill build but it still has good stats and some escapes.
I don’t like it much for the crit chance < 40% and no access to fury…
also i’d consider sigil of hydromancy over ice for the melee weap (someone jumps in your face -> swap -> insta chill)

I see this being quite usefull in WvW zerging. Since bombing almost always has the enemy CCed. it will be nice extra damage.
I have used a similar build in wvw for some time (axes instead of longbow) and found that even with signet of renewal you will find yourself at times very weighed down with conditions. I’m planning a move to more survival based build with the survival of the fittest trait to remove condis. I really liked frost trap and it does
Make a difference but will have to settle with muddy terrain and a couple hydromancy sigils (highly underrated). Axe mh also has the winters bite, so a good amount of chill thrown in…

Playing as a power Ranger, it’s going to be very hard to make survival of the fittest work next patch because everyone’s going to want to run 1 or 2 signets and you’re still going to want RaO over Entangle imo. At that point, SotF probably won’t be worth it do you think?
Sotf works with muddy terrain and lightning reflexes leaving room for a signet. I prefer entangle since rao is easily stripped or stolen, and fury uptime is high with sotf already.

So you’ll run 0 stability?
I figure most will probably want SoS and SotW next patch which leaves just LR and perhaps Entangle. But once you have those 2, you’re almost always better with SoR for condi cleanse I’d imagine?
After playing around a bunch I find if I am in a real bind SOS covers for lack of stability should I miss a dodge, and what’s lr for if not to break stun. If I was duelling I might look at it different but most wvw fights outlast stability anyway but it’s a preference thing, I’m not saying this is right for everyone! I’d say you’re right tho, if you have nothing else in your pocket then sor will do the most for you, I’ve been dependent on it a while now tho and want a bit more on demand without the long cool down or pet alive requirement!

A bit less chill for a bit more AoE cripple/immob, this one also is a bit more hybrid with more condi removal via lyssa.
