Chronix Dueling inspired by Neshiba
Also remember….A single build is not going to beat every class…That is what I found out a while ago….So is why I have two primary builds!

You haven’t told us about those ‘two’ build!
Nice video. I wish I had some to share as well. We should duel, what server you on? I’ve only been playing this class a week, but I’m a long time build maker and I’m pretty sure what I’ve come up with is stronger all around then that build for 1v1’s in general. Give it a whirl, let me know what you think. It’s more made for tournies in mind, but if you replaced that speed signet it would be stronger just for 1v1. Still even with it, I think it would take the build your using.

I am on Jade Quarry. But just add me to your friend list, whisper me in game and let’s join the same spvp server and duel!
16,082hp it can only be one build!

Sounds good, and if you do try out the build, one of its strength lies in constant weapon switching for fury and life steal. Just be mindful of when to pause between switches incase you need to use an interrupt on a paticular bow. Also I just found out empathitc bond removes all conditions every 10 seconds, so the Signet that does the same thing may be redundant. Will have to figure out a good replacement (maybe lightning reflexes , although the remove immobilize or stunbreaker on hand is priceless…), although I may just keep it.

I’m definitely enjoying the praise about my ranger play. I think Chronix also deserves props for being top dog right now. He actually beat me -more- soundly in the subsequent duels after this, but that’s exciting for me, because someone who beats me in duels is an opportunity to refine my playstyle and learn as a ranger. When we first met, we were about even, and then -he- was the one who inspired me to flirt with carrion amulet and ultimately come up with that traps build I’m still using; posted in full detail, including gear etc, here:
…And then I soundly beat him for a bit, and then he came back with the power and signets build he’s using in that video and soundly beat me and that’s where we’re at. I’m heavily dodge-oriented, and one of the big things I’m working on is making each of my dodges count rather than just flinging dodges out randomly, which is a tricky habit to break but I’m doing well.
Oh, wait, I beat him once with his current build once I knew he was 30 BM and had to pay close attention to his pet. But he might’ve been lagging. We’ll see! All in all, I’m honored to know Chronix, because he’s a skilled ranger with a good heart and has really inspired a lot of development for my play as a ranger.
Here’s to wolf and snow leopard; they make the rockin’ world go ’round.
Well I rarely build for 1v1 on my ranger because its meaningless but I did do a trap condi build with my own gear setup and it was almost unbeatable 1v1, give or take a mesmer here and there. Unfortunately I hate the playstyle so Im gonna focus on rifle warrior for now, you guys have fun.
Just watched the video, my friend leuca runs something very similar, evasion tanks are not my thing but you should pm leuca and ask him for duels, he is very good. He and I duel all the time on our rangers, me being glass cannon longbow and him being evasion tank, I think you would find him challenging.

I am so glad I have inspired so many rangers that to not give up; to try new builds and to build up new skills on the journey. Your words truly made me feel a really good player not only in skill but in heart! You have improve a lot, and you will improve more over time. I am so glad to have inspired people with my first build ever, TRAP BUILD; which is my second choice right now in builds, props for everyone whom by watching my videos and talking to me have actually been inspired!
I am so glad to have met you and all of you guys who always send me a whisper to duel, play or just talk with me.
I repeat, if any of you guys need help feel free to contact me in game! I will do ym best to help you out in anything you guys need!

He probably meant this one:
Why all that precision and crit damage? You are not using a sigil with on crit buff and your power is not that high, so your crit won’t do a lot of damage.
The ranger community’s getting a little duel thing going, eh?
I might be missing something but there’s no traps in that build.
Whoopth. It should be flame trap on 7, spike trap on 8, SoTH on 9.
Just thought I would ask why runes of the ranger on this build and not rune of the undead? Would not the increased conditions work better on a trapper build?
I’m not pure condition. I have pretty decent physical damage too, between 1610 power, 30% crit chance, and 43 critical damage. I’m intentionally getting damage from various sources because it suits my playstyle.
Is it safe to assume that it’s intentional that Chronix isn’t posting the build used in this vid?
Yes I was trying for ballance as well. How much condition damage would you say? I can not get above 100 without giving up too much power/precision. Is that any help at all or would that be better served moving to all power?

Okay, this could be a while. I’m going to start talking about stats.
I have 1,098 condition damage. My sources of this, exclusively, are my carrion amulet and my 30 points in wilderness survival. This is enough condition damage to make bleeds do 92 per tick, burning 603, and poison 194. If I was going absolutely full-out condition damage I could get another 371 from runes of the undead and carrion or rabid jewel, but I don’t.
Carrion amulet gives me a decent chunk of power—and, after looking at the math, power is definitely the most important stat for scaling physical damage. The way I’ve come to see it is that power is your -core- physical boosting stat; precision and crit damage are bonuses (though it’s worth noting sometimes useful effects are attached to scoring critical strikes, which enhances their value). For instance, with ranger base stats in the mists (totally naked, no bonuses from traits or gear), a basic sword slash (the first in the 1 chain) will be listed in the tooltip as doing 202 damage, and have a 4% chance to crit for an extra 50% damage. You can calculate the average damage the crit factor will add with this formula:
((1.5 * (1 + [Crit damage/100]) – 1) * [Crit chance / 100)
I think you’ll find that with a crit chance of 4% and crit damage of 0 (crits add 50% damage), overall you’ll receive an extra 2% damage from critical strikes, making the base sword slash’s effective average damage 202 * 1.02 or ~206.
If you increase the power by 569 but don’t increase precision or crit damage, your basic slash will do 327 damage and still receive another 2% on average from crits, making its average damage ~333.5, a ~62% increase in damage. If you increased the precision by 569 but nothing else, your sword would do base 202 again but you’d now be receiving an extra 15.5% damage from criticals instead of 2%—but this would bring your average sword attack up to only 233, a 13% increase. From base stats, adding 569 power increases your physical damage by 62%; adding 569 precision increases it by 13%. See what I mean?
This isn’t to say the critical damage bonus can’t get quite good. For instance, with double berserker amulet, runes of the ranger, and 30 points in skirmishing (+1109 precision, +50 crit damage), you’ll have 57 crit chance and 58 crit damage. This will have each critical strike do 237% of normal damage and increase your damage on average by 78%, which is a sizeable chunk—but compared to that 1109 precision and 50 crit damage, 78% isn’t as good as a mere +923 power that still increases your base damage by a solid 100%!
So crit damage is very useful, but it’s not for being a core damage stat. It’s for pushing the envelope on just how much damage you’re doing once you have a solid power core. This is why I recommend a power amulet over a precision amulet. In the build I described above, basically my current build with berserker amulet, the average sword slash would do about 756 incl. +5% damage from ranger runes. In the build I’m currently using, with carrion/berserker, my average slash does about 500. So full berserker would have me doing about 50% more physical damage, but my carrion setup has me doing 59% more bleeding, 70% more poisoning, and 50% more burning. It all balances quite nicely, doesn’t it?

Tips hat off to the analysis, I also agree that raw power is more significant than critical in terms of damage. You can notice this by separating how each stat complements the next, and by the above analysis it’s simple to understand that critical chance is what you want more than critical damage. Especially when using a short bow, having a superior sigil of earth + high condition damage + decent raw power + decent to high critical chance, you will inevitably output more damage over time than having higher critical damage.
Can you talk more about your equipment and traits? If I am right, you must be wearing a full exotic set (from Orr), which is what I have. I personally have a combination of each, I think they all provide a sweet boost here and there (especially to toughness/condition damage).

Chronix, hit me up for duel sometime.
Message me in game! I have a new build! Which si the one I used in the video dueling vs Neshiba!
Duels! Message me!
Ok, what about WvW where people can get critdmg to 110.
Amulets and runes in spvp are rather inflexible. It is one thing to fight an ele in spvp with no access to 2 sup mon, 2 sup water, 2 major water; it is another to thing to do so in WvW. Same for thieves and warriors — the synergy of ruby/berserker gear in WvW skews things and outcomes in spvp might be different than wvw duels for that very reason.
sorry, all i see is average ranger play. power healing builds are vastly inferior dueling builds compared to condition/healing. ranger power builds do laughable damage, even with the pet getting every hit off.
not gonna waste time being too nitpicky, but basically rolling TU over HS for multiple leap finishers and condition removal is less than impressive. no lightning reflexes for vigor tanking. etc etc. i dont even know what the other dude was doing.
i get ure trying to do something different. power/healing builds when built right are great a bunkering. but it’s inferior for dueling.
