Circle of Life
Scratch that, tested it, completely worthless.
It doesn’t heal you, so it’s only for the benefit of others, which would be better served with you picking a trait that would allow you to not die as easy.

It does heal you actually, it’s also a second healing spring which means that any scenario that they let you rally in makes losing that much more likely….
Keep in mind only the REGEN heals you, which in most situations does less healing than the bleed out damage on downed state.

Or you can run natures protection and avoid going downed in the first place. Rangers don’t lose downed v downed fights anyway, so if the enemy is up that regen ain’t doing anything against a stomp.
It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.

Talking about team fights bro, not 1v1s, and that regen + condi clear will make it that much more likely that your allies will be able to Rez you (as well as making it safer for them to do so) and even if they fail to do so, it makes it that much more likely they’ll win the fight.

It provides short water field. If you run with bigger group, that’s a good thing. But not really amazing for dungeons

I come from a PvP background so….. don’t really know much about what’s “good” or not in dungeons

It can work pretty well in dungeons (mostly for pugs though) since stacking in some corner is the go to tactic; everyone gets in on your water field and condi clears.
It also starts you out with higher hp when you are downed (keep in mind it does have a cool down, so if you go down and then down again after only a couple seconds; don’t expect it to spam water fields).

That’s a complete waste in PvP though, so why would you use it there anyway?
Aside from using it in WvW zerg balls, it has very little, if any real use.
A much better trait, and one that fits the name, would be one that revives downed players in a radius when you get downed. It would need a massive cooldown but it certainly would be better in WvW (like by a huge amount) and in dungeons.
Imagine being able to kamakaze to res the Lord or rally your allies.

such a trait would be worthy of a grandmaster spot. Even with 240 second ICD, that would still be OP as a 10 point trait.
EDIT; the Circle of Life trait, i tested it yesterday. It is useful. Especially in zergballs, and it saved my commander (i was grouped with him) a few times as it heals for 2k more health then the normal field does. Regen is like 3k less.
IF you dont want to take Circle of Life, take the trait that gives +33% regen duration or gain protection when you take more then 10% max HP in one hit.

What part of “is a a second water field that heals and gives regen” makes it bad? It’s kittening great for Team Fights especially when you’re running a build that gets a lot of focus, like spirit ranger, or zerker ranger (I hate spirits unbound so I have an extra trait with my spirit build)

It will heal your for whatever it says, something like 4 or 5k when you initially go down. If you are in a PvP situation that is like 4 or 5 less rez ticks your teammates need to use on you to get you up which can be VERY good. You will not see this green number pop up however, but it does in fact heal you.
Am I good?… I’m good.
could be good in combination with Shadow Refuge.
I have used to with some success in Mad Kings Labyrinth.
Nature’s Protection is better in most cases, and there are more good traits in the nature line so you end up not using it even if you have 20 point in nature

The point of Circle of Life isn’t self survival it’s for Group Survival, surprisingly enough if you get downed you can actually win your group the fight because of the condi cleanse and healing even if you don’t get rezzed, where as Natures Protection just gives you prot, which most NM builds already have plenty of.

fix’d
It’s not numerically bad; it’s just blatantly inefficient and completely niche.

It’s hardly niche, it can easily turn a team fight, and from what I’ve noticed most enemy teams are hesitant to focus you until the end when you’ve got that trait, ESPECIALLY if it won you a team fight.

I’d say if they had a significant advantage and downed you first, it is a failure on their part to plan out fight strategy to properly follow up if this trait alone turns a team fight around. Your team must still stop to res you, cutting their apm and creating more openings for the enemy team to both deal more damage/recuperate depending on the situation.

You don’t seem to realize how strong AoE condi removal and spamming blast finishers in that pool is…. 5 blast finishers = AoE 6k heal with 0 healing power, and they don’t NEED to Rez you, you’re a ranger, they just need to prevent them from finishing you and you’ll get up just fine.

I don’t know why they would bother keeping you from getting stopped over and over if you go down often and easily enough for this to see enough use to worth traiting for.
I’d rather have a ranger who stayed up to minimize possible rallies and instead made good, tactical use of the actual healing spring skill.
Nature’s Bounty on a voice build or Concentration Training with red/blue moa are both much better choices for team utility and the obvious benefit of Strength of Spirit on a pvt build goes without saying.

You don’t need to get downed a lot for the trait to be useful…. No one even said you had to be EASY to take out either…. Does it work well on a zerker build as a sort of detaunt? Yes, it makes them think twice about focus firing you, but I’d say it works better on a support focused build, you know because you don’t wanna get bursted down…. This trait is simply a DETAUNT, it’s meant to make the enemy hesitant to burst you down.

remember that ANET designed the downed state to be used as a tactic in this game. and since the downed state does not count as a death, (e.i. the other team doesn’t get points for simply downing a player), some people are going to use “on-downed” traits to their advantage and turn the tide of a fight. especially when the “on-downed” player’s team-mates are actually paying attention and re-position themselves accordingly. granted, if the team sucks at awareness and positioning, i can see how they would constantly ridicule someone for using the trait.

Also keep in mind that you get scumbags like me and my friends who have a " Rez kitten" on their team (me) in mercy runes that Rez people at half health which is significantly better than any heal other than maybe Ether Renewal….
Pair that with a Mesmer giving AoE stability, me having a little over 3.5k toughness while rezzing and the fact I can out Rez a quickness stomp it makes dropping into downed not very scary, and makes me a pretty annoying target for the enemy team once they figure out what the hell I’m doing.
