Cleric armor builds
Why did you get Cleric’s set if you didn’t have build for it? ALWAYS figure out some kind of build before getting a set of gear.
Anyway, what were you planning to do in WvW? Sitting in zerg, roaming or trolling in jp? All of those have different needs and therefore slightly different builds.
My suggestion is to continue and to learn. It takes time to master something, don’t expect to jump in and own. I run a clerics/somewhat BM build in WvW and I do fine and have fun. I focus on roaming/mobility/melee.
Are you running a defensive beastmaster build? Healing power combined with high toughness will make you difficult to down. With healing spring and combo finishers you can keep your health up and depend primarily for pet damage in order to take down an opponent. That is just one possibility.
i had a build that focused on keeping me alive while healing myself and my pet while my pet dishes out big numbers, but it didn’t work as it sounded on paper/tests because pets are clunky (let’s be honest about it, pet AI is kitten .

My build works fine with it. I see that the movements are mechanical because it is not user controlled, but besides that, nothing wrong with it for me.

hmm, is it ok if you share your build?
0/10(I)/30(III,X,XI)/15(VI)/15(VI)
Full Clerics, Dwayna Runes
Greatsword/Sword+Dagger, Sigil of Energy/Hydromancy+Force
Jungle Stalker/River Drake
Healing Spring, Muddy Terrain OR Quickening Zephyr, Signet of the Wild, Signet of the Hunt, Entangle
I only tell you my build just so you might get an idea of what I was suggesting. I would say it is best to build one’s own ranger because it will fit their playstyle the best.

So i’ve recently got my first exotic set, all Cleric’s stats (healing power, toughness, power), and i tried beast master builds for WvW and didn’t work out too well.
since the set is expensive, i can’t get a new set so soon, so i’m looking for WvW builds that would be really good with cleric armor.
Any suggestion?
I use the same build in WvW and it works out great. I use LB/Sword and Dagger for wvw. Pets depend on whether i’m taking camps or not, if I’m in a zerg, i use drakes, taking camps solo, I use cats.
Be sure to use signet of the wild, as you get a great boost to the passive with healing power.

you’re using the same armor, but what about traits?
my current trait setup is 25/0/30/0/15, with sword/warhorn and SB
Hey Rapid. Give this a try and see if it gives you the kind of success you are looking for.
0/10/30/0/30.
Important pet traits:
-30% more crit damage on pet crit
-Master’s bond
-bleed on feline crit
-the 30 BM healing trait
-Use the speed signet, rejuv signet, sick ’em, and entangling roots
-Use a Jaguar
-Use Mango pie as food
See if that gives you the pet damage and the survivability you are looking for. Also, I highly recommend the Dwayna runes for this type of set up…
For the “speed” kills…lock someone in entangling roots and hit F2 + sick ’em.

i have tried a similar build, didn’t work out too well :/
I have a couple videos posted up on the forums. I am currently the condition damage version of that spec, but Djornak is in full Clerics gear and he has success with it. However, if you are zerg rolling, it wont work as well. If you roll WvW with a larger group I would use your Cleric gear to focus on group support…
If you roll for small skirmish, you probably just need some more practice. It’ll come together. I wish server transfers were free, I’d have ya hop over to HoD and roll with us for a bit.
no suggestions. cleric’s doesnt work on the ranger in WvW. i tested it for about 2 months and will soon have a vid demonstrating some of its strengths. in tpvp, cleric rangers are very powerful because they can do 13k burst with double ravens. if you have the white raven in pve, then youre in luck.
the innate problem with the cleric ranger is that you take forever to kill something, period. yes, you can tank 10-15 scrubs for a while and leave battle at will (assuming sword/dagger/GS), but in order to kill a single good player you need to stick around an area for a few minutes at least. meaning, you will get zerged and killed.
in addition, cleric rangers bring absolutely nothing to large scale engagements. you dont have damage. you can dive in and tank people for a while, land a few Entangles and raven crits here and there, until someone lands a lucky immobilize on you.
roll with apothecary gear because it’s flexible. it tanks just as well as cleric, but you can do more damage and it synergizes with pets better. bunker trap bomber is actually a pretty fun spec and you can help bring groups down. it works way better when you have actual condition damage, as opposed to HTP.
as things stand, best gear sets for the ranger in WvW are Apothecary, and Knight’s with a combination of Soldier’s/Berserker’s. with the exception of Healing Spring and spamming immobilizes/traps, rangers dont have a true support role in WvW. so unless youre doing some serious damage, you aint doin much.
(edited by nerva.7940)
I agree with Nerva. You may even mix in some Shaman gear with it for the HP. I was just trying to help as the point was the money was already spent and the OP didnt want to go through buying gear again.
i had a blast with my cleric set until i decided to stop using it. when i looked back at the footage i realized i wasnt really doing much for my group, even though it looked impressive. overall, it was a waste of 35g (sorry OP). i would stash it aside until they maybe revamp spirits or something, but even then spirits would work better with HTC gear.
im glad there are others using these exhilarating, high-APM builds. bunker ranger is one of the funnest, most balanced specs in the game. but really, he belongs in tpvp.
Granted I haven’t really investigated using other gear, but I use cleric armor with a mix of cleric/knights trinkets and I do fine in WvW. I can 1v1 and 2v1 pretty easily.
Mesmers can be tough and the p/d thief that cloaks every other second are very tough. I use two wolves and greatsword/longbow. Pet swapping is key for me.

try this one?
Re-gen offen and 10%Healing>pow.
You have 3swiffness w.horn RaO and swap weapon.
Use both weapon to slowdown kite enemy and let pet play with them offen.

Yeah same, all mine is still in my bank.
To each their own, I love my cleric’s!
You can’t have everything in a single build.
Full Cleric’s + Superior Rune of the Grove + Superior Sharpening Stone + 0/0/30/10/30 + Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew = easy 1 v 1 kills of 99% of our competition as a roamer.
Do you have burst? NO but consistent respectable damage GIVEN you have insane regen and protection up time. I’ll happily kill a little slower for arguably the best (easily amoung top three) bunker builds in the game.
Tragic. I use mine and have a lot of fun, I always lead the charge for my group, intiating, chasing, stunning, and then providing support healing and damage. On top of that, I can still kill people 1v1 at times and if they are bad 1v2. Escape and survival is reasonably easy. Seeing white numbers is a small price to pay. I guess it just fits my playstyle well lol.
If using Clerics, you need 15 points in Nature, and you need to use Warhorn as one of your weapons.
It’s build around applying boons to your pet.

This is a good setup, i’d just change dagger for horn.
and entangle for Rampage as One.
Riverdrake I wouldn’t use (I’d use Swamp Drake, but that’s just me)
Dywana’s Runes work, also Superior Rune of the Forge.

Thank you for your suggestions, much appreciated, I will try them once I get my hands on a cleric warhorn. About my choices though, I chose dagger for the defensive and the 100% poison I could output when combined with sword. The cripple also helps me catch runners in WvW, which is also why I chose entangle(also for group utility). I haven’t tried swamp drake, but the poison would be a good substitute for the loss of dagger, and warhorn and RaO would push me a towards more damage. I will see how it goes. It is always nice to have more options.

you’ll find that the swamp drake works better then the river drake usually,
River Drake’s attack is 600 range, and will only hit stuff directly in front of it
Swamp Drake’s attack is 900 range (I think it’s probably close to the same damage as well, It seems like Swamp Drake is not added up like a channel attack, but it does about the same damage over time) and it will fire at targets behind the Drake…It’ll also put a fairly lengthy poison on the target as well (and it bounces also)
You’ll lose the cripple, But with 15 Nature’s, you’ll find that your pet will have close to 30 seconds of Fury/Swiftness, which is nice with Horn.

Are you sure Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Strew endurance boost works? I think I remember trying and it didn’t stack with my WS trait.
Also, with 1200 condition damage, high healing and high toughness and holding 1500 power what do you think my damage is? Because when those bleeds start it’s a lot more than respectable.

You get the exact same playstyle with apothecary gear except you do way more damage and dont get killed spamming sword #1
I switch between veggie pizza and lemongrass poultry soup. Bark skin + 40% reduction on conditions is the best combo imo. You should maintain perma vigor no problem with birds

Throw in the Superior Rune of Melandru and it’s comical how funny conditions become, thieves using immobilize always makes me smile as it just runs off you like water off a ducks back.
Seems like we use the same pema vigor bird tactic as well.

I wasn’t aware of this thought it was working fine in WvW (I’ll have to test this tonight when I get the chance).
If this is the case, my bad I guess i’ll be switching to one of these three:
1. Plate of Fire Flank Steak: +100 Power; +70 Condition damage
2. Plate of Orrian Steak Frittes: +100 Power; +70 Vitality
3. Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup: -40% Condition duration; +70 Vitality {nerva and capuchinseven make a convincing argument for this one}

Why does no one run Superior Rune of the Grove?
(1): +25 Healing
(2): +15% Protection Duration
(3): +50 Healing
(4): 25% chance to gain Protection for 4s when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
(5): +90 Healing
(6): 50% chance to root your target on hit. (Cooldown: 180s)
The root procs pretty reliably and the protection bonus and +healing synergizes well with Cleric’s?

Somehow the pure melee ranger is working quite well for me, but I almost always get bursted down by trap/sb rangers (( any suggestions?
Yes this build can be altered to work for apothecary type armor, and conditions would become the ranger’s form of damage.
On avoiding shortbow burst, use the greatsword block to get 3 seconds of damage avoidance. Use swoop to get in the opponents face, then work on crippling/immobilizing him. Use healing spring to cleanse some of their conditions and maintain regen.
You get the exact same playstyle with apothecary gear except you do way more damage and dont get killed spamming sword #1

So you play the condition damage variant? Hm, what weapons and skills do you have?
sword/dagger or torch/GS with traps and entangle. 0/20/30/0/20. pretty tanky
I use rune of the grove as well. That with entangle works well for me. They escape one root, to get caught in another, and I hit QZ and stealth on jaguar, and watch them panic as their health drains.
This is of course running solo or with a couple guildies. In zergs I feel kinda useless, as its hard to do single target damage when people just run up, do damage, then run to the back line again.
Recluse:
I use the build you originally posted (it was my introduction to the beauties of 0/0/30/10/30). Thinking of swapping Cleric’s for full set of Apothecary to see difference.
I know Greatsword/Sword+Dagger or Greatsword/Sword+Horn may does more damage I just like the playstyle of Shortbow/GS (personal preference).
So my main question is this given i’m loyal to shortbow as main weapon and 0/0/30/10/30:
Does Crossfire (shortbow auto-attack) in a full set of Apothecary armor/weapons/jewelry do more damage with this set up than full set of Cleric’s armor/weapons/jewelry?
I know the answer depends on how well you can flank to maintain more bleeds but let’s assume average flanking ability in a standard 1 v 1 match versus a thief.
absolutely. power SB (without crit) fizzled after the QZ nerf. it hits like a wet noodle. however, even with full condition gear, SB is a little lackluster. SB is really a hybrid weapon requiring high crit and some condition damage. knight’s gear and 0/30/30/x/x is most definitely the BEST build for the SB, if thats your thing.
Yeah whatNerva said, I sit around 50% crit with around 900-1000 condition damage and I can still manage 1900 toughness AND 1400 ish power.
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
how did you get those stats? apothecary/knight’s?
Knight’s + Rabid probably.

I’ve had a few PMs about this so I’ll pretty much say the same thing a few times over, heh.
Mostly Knights yes, with Apothecary/Zho’s/Vatlaaw’s. This is of course is WvW with a little food thrown in, I couldn’t hit that amount of power in sPVP. In sPVP I run with a rabid amulet and a cleric jewel, my power is down to around 1100 but the other stats are mostly the same off the top of my head.
I currently sit just a little below the condition and toughness but with a higher crit chance that I stated above after changing my runes from Undead to Thief. Swapping back to Undead would alter my stats back to the above again but I liked the flanking bonus which I was already adding to with the skirmish tree.
I currently sit at 0/30/30/10/0. Not a trap build. I do miss having 20 in BM for the bird swap vigor.
The weakness to the build is healing, I sit at around 300 and to deal with that I run with Sigils of Blood AND Omnomberry Pies, they will both stack and of course protection, sword/dagger dodges and near perma vigor. To get the power up I use superior sharpening stones which are always useful in builds with high toughness.
Quick shot of my stats, as you can see the toughness and condition damage are a few points below but the crit chance is higher – https://dl.dropbox.com/u/33266171/gw159.jpg

while i love the tank and dueling capabilities of full conditions, i’ll be switching over to a hybrid SB build. i cant down people fast enough in a zerg with just conditions. too much cleansing, too much safety in a zerg. anyway, it’s nice to have both options.
