Companion's Defense and pet Distortion.
Why distortion? What kind of magic is this? Are we mesmers now?
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
I’d tone it down to ¾ second to match the evasion of a dodge roll. Also, not sure why this would need to be a trait as it would fit better as a baseline for pets and be a significant QoL improvement for them.

I think it would be more important to add evasion to F3 with some sort of ICD so it can’t be abused. How about evasion, on F3, for… 2-3 seconds, ICD 15-20 seconds (ICD resets upon pet swap)?
I suggested Distortion because it would also give the pet immunity to conditions for the duration, but regular evasion would be fine. Mesmers have a trait that gives 1s of Distortion to clones or illusions on creation, so it was just an extension on that for me really.
It would be good as baseline, but then this trait would need to be changed to add the Protection after the dodge evade anyway, so I thought, why not just add it to the trait? Meaning you CAN trait for your pet to survive, or not.
You can’t really abuse it because there is already an ICD on dodging.
Perhaps an alternative approach?

I don’t see the point of adding another endurance bar when you already have the Ranger bar to limit the amount of dodges the pet can get. That just seems redundant to me. Particularly when the pet cannot dodge by itself, it would only dodge when the ranger dodges.
Pet evade on Ranger dodge needs to happen, though.
It’s to give more control for players that want to send their pet in and control it’s dodge without having to use their own endurance for it to evade – typically for play styles where the Ranger is at a distance and sending the pet into a battle.
For simpler uses, the option so the pet dodges when the player does. Endurance bar on the pet so sharing/applying vigor to the pet can have an actual impact.
Though pet evades need and should happen, I’ll note that I can see distortion or even evade frames becoming abused with opponents unable to interrupt a pet’s F2, especially with new traits on the way such as Beastly Warden.
Animals such as felines and canines have evade animations established in game (use a tonic and have fun). While pets do not need an elaborate animation, a pet evade needs to act like a player dodge, canceling an animation and repositioning itself out of harms way. That’s my take on it, anyway.

No thank you. Absolutely not, that would be horrible. I can’t believe why ppl suggest this time and time again.
Explain how offering that as an option is horrible?

How else would you do it? If it required another key-bind and you having to manually press it for the pet to evade, that would be bad and too much additional micro. Also what would be bad is if the pet evaded by itself. The only other option left is to have the pet evade when the player does. It serves both then, you can evade to keep your pet up if you are at range, but it comes at a cost to you since you need to sacrifice your own endurance, or if you are in melee with your pet, you both benefit.
Exactly what are we talking about here? The suggestion I don’t like is the one when you want your pet to dodge when you do. That’s a useless idea, and an idea that we’ve talked about so many times before. For anyone that plays ranger regulary, I can’t understand how someone thinks this would be a good idea?
If we’re talking about granting the pet evasion when we dodge, but that the pet doesn’t interrupt its current action, well fine, I wouldn’t mind that. Don’t think they’ll give us that though.
Still think that evasion on F3 is by far the best method of doing this. Possibly also giving the pet that new boon that ignores condition effects for X seconds.
Yeah, dodge=evasion, you wouldn’t have the pet actually make the roll, it would just get the evade frames, or like I suggested, just give it Distortion on Ranger Dodge so it gets a little reprieve from conditions too.
It would honestly be a total PITA to have to press F3 (or another key bind) to have your pet evade attacks, pointless. Just make it evade when we dodge. Or give it Distortion. If Mesmer clones get can get Distortion on creation for 1s and they are designed to be consumable, then our persistant pets can get some on our dodge, since they cannot dodge for themselves.
