I reworked my ranger a few weeks ago after getting tired of zerker stats. I mixed up toughness, healing power, and condition damage gear, and it’s insane! I know this type of build has been around for a while, but I never hear anything about it.
Running staff (for mobility mostly) and axe + torch, I haven’t found a champ in HoT I can’t solo. I was able to solo the HP champ in Auric Basin near the entrance to TD, the champ (group event) chak in TD, the giant mushroom HP near the entrance to AB, and pretty much everything else. All three of those usually take at least 3 people to complete.

21k hp, 1500 condi damage while wielding axe/torch, and 1200 healing power with staff, plus 3k toughness. The healing is crazy, as is the sustain and condi damage. It has great damage too, with burning and bleeding ticks of 7k and 1k, respectively, while playing solo.
I never play WvW, and yesterday I 1v1’d a warrior and a thief, separately, and they both ran away. They were both generals, too.
But it’s not me! The build just has a lot going for it, and it outperforms every other class I have at pretty much everything. Even my guardian is dwarfed by it.

Why is this build not the meta?

I made a condi druid build when I came back, posted it on forums not too long ago, I enjoy it from time to time, I use sw/t and axe/dagger. Not the meta because it just doesn’t match up, we don’t have the aoe condi spam capability of necros, mesmers etc. WvW roaming it works just fine.

I still play with the runes etc. I’ve changed the build a bit since inception.

Aha, I see. Looks like we have almost the exact same build.

The damage is limited to a few skills, but if they’re well-placed and well-timed, it’s an awesome addition to a group. Yeah, it doesn’t have the same aoe spam as other classes, but it makes up for that with it’s survivability and healing power. I really want to try the same kind of build with rev and mace, but the survivability is just so much lower.
I haven’t seen any other build from any class that can rival this one in terms of damage output and survivability. I kinda wish there was though, cause it makes all the other classes seem like kitten for soloing HoT.

Yeah, my link in sig has some older versions of me doing the build on core ranger, it would work better in spvp, but I don’t think there is an amulet that copies apothecary stats.

I’ve never touched ranger in my life… today I decided to do so. Literally zero combat experience in that matter, picked that glorious meta build.

Guess I am either that good or this build is just another one of these <looks at Cele ele covered in rust and dust.>
Seriously, I had a match that consited of diamonds and legendaries If I am not mistaken, though it was unranked. Still the match was a harsh one, people knew their stuff and how to roll.
I really just mashed random buttons, spammed heals and went to save stab shout and stone sig when things turned grim or just disengaged on demand with staff, or just let pet to carry me. Overall I did very good, just blindly throwing stuff to heal and greatly disrupt my enemies or get those sick safe ress’ with shout. But truth be told, is this supposed to be fun?
I might be just that kind of guy that doesn’t find this easy play amusing and I hope it will get toned down. I really dislike this “Flavor of the month” stuff that happens every balance patch.

I know, right? I wasn’t really into the build when I started, but now I feel like I have to play it cause every other class feels weak as hell.
I just wish Anet would update the survivability of almost every other class, or to be honest, nerf this build. I’d prefer the former, though.

This true, I can’t quite recall how many of them were top tier but I recognized a few names that were diamond when I saw them later.
How can you tell that I made it up? I gave ranger a go instead of crying out loud for OP.
Tried it and studied it, came to conclusion that it is very efficient, perhaps too efficient.

in short, the meta builds are used for contents that people actually play. so even if a build is effective in certain situations, it will not be the meta as long as majority of players do not care about the situation.

• pve: not many people are interested in solo champ or anything tiresome which can be done by a group.
• wvw: majority of players prefer to play with a group and they run group oriented build in general. not many people are interested in playing ranger or dueling.
• pvp: there is no longer condi/heal amulet.

it is not a bad build. majority of players just do not care about the situations where you feel the build is op. when you face an experienced player who run a group oriented build in wvw, he will most likely ignore you once he realize you run a cheesy build because he knows it is waste of time to care about those players.

I meant you. You’re the one getting upset. I just looked at the ranger forums, and I don’t see what you’re talking about at all; you’re exaggerating.
I have one of every class, and I’ve played all of them quite a bit. I don’t pvp or WvW often, so my comments are not really directed that way (though as I wrote, I did have surprising results in WvW with the build in those two instances).

Now, this is just ridiculous… you’re obviously just angry for some reason, though I have no idea why. What you say is just not true.

Like I said, I’m not sure why you’re angry, but please grow up. I posted here because I wanted to know more about the build and how many people used it, and you contributed nothing.

I think fluff’s post is very accurate, which is fine. This is obviously a troll thread designed to infuriate people, right? I mean, there is no Meta Condi faceroll Druid build on MetaBattle. Non of the meta builds that uses SoS are condi in any way.

Some of us will run the Druid version of the old SW/T A/D build (for nostalgic reasons) using the new amulets, but it is weak in many ways and is not on MetaBattle for good reason. So, yeah, this is a troll thread.

I mean it should be obvious a reaper, burn guard, shatter mesmer, would eat you up and spit you out. You only have one decent condi removal ability and relatively low HP pool.

the definition of cheese is somewhat different by individuals. so i am not going to argue it. but it is typically used for builds which are low risk (skill) and high reward. tanky condi builds are pretty easy to manage due to its sustainability and spammable conditions tbh.

most of players in wvw prefer large group fight (aka zerg) and run builds which are optimized for zerg fight. not many players are optimized for skirmishing or some people just don’t like it. so many players just run to their commander instead of chasing enemies who are possibly unkillable for them.

there is no problem with running any build as long as you enjoy it. that kind of ranger build has existed since before. it is somewhat comfortable build if you enjoy solo and like laidback gameplay, but not that powerful or needed in group contents where meta builds are used. so it doesn’t really matter.

I looked through the first two pages of the ranger forum, and I do not see any posts about ranger being OP, or people whining; I’m not sure how you can call his post accurate.

Why would this be a troll thread? All I wanted to do was find out why I don’t see this build in PVE more often, and to a lesser extent, WvW and PvP.
Then Fluffball lambasts it for being stupid and full of rage, which he clearly brought with his replies.
Is everyone that on edge in the forums?

As for the WvW viability, I don’t run the build that is posted above; mine is actually a little different. I don’t use any glyphs, and I run the GM trait that makes survival skills remove conditions, so condition removal is actually not bad.
For roaming and camp capture, I had fun with this.

Is this for real? from what I’m reading fluffball did nothing wrong and you should be more inclined to ask for more information on rodzy experience because he gave no real details whats so ever while the majority of what he said was mild and sly QQ about him mashing random buttons vs diamond and legendary players and how ranger is “flavor of the month” Even if this is trollbait I guess I wasted time and had to pay the toll. Still yet glad you found a build that enhanced your ranger experience OP.

This is what I usually use for tough mobs. Utility skill #1 is pretty permanent, but the other two and elite change from situation to situation. Staff is just for mobility and reflects or team heals.
If I had the money I might use different runes, but balth works pretty well.

I owe you an apology then. From your response to fluffy, I thought you were trolling with Rodzy. That’s not the case, so I am sorry. I think your build looks fantastic btw. Great mobility, condition damage and removal, and guard for well timed might stacking.

And yeah, it’s a blast. I did the same build for rev yesterday, and that’s working out OK. Not as good as druid, but it’s able to solo some stuff.

Interesting build. My perspective on the whole Ranger / Druid thing is that we are a bit over powered in some cases (note – build specific) compared to other classes. It isn’t a bad thing mind you but just how I see it. Druid, with some builds, is safer and allows room for mistakes. Think built for comfort.

I run celestial ascended armor with similar Apothecary accessories. So I have 3100 armor and a tick over 1,000 in healing. I prefer runes of durability though and use LB with Staff. With this build I can swap between supporting in HAVOC squads to my more normal day to day of camp flipping, solo roaming, and scouting. What I mean is that shy of a nuclear bomb going off there isn’t much that is going to stop me. Hence my built for comfort and not speed

This is only with regards to WvW since that is all I really play. I’ve run full Berserker / LB pew pew builds, traps before they became popular, conditional / bleed builds but in the end I always come back to this.
